“ipswich police you're being recorded “
hi this is carlene service dog project---- we have a car that's been abandoned here and we would like to get rid of it apparently I need some paperwork from you so I can donate it to kars for kids. “
“abandoned ? how long is it been there “
about two years
“where is the owner?”
I don’t know really, she died
“ Are you sure ?”
I went to the funeral , it certainly looked like an official funeral.
“you better get in touch with her relatives
there weren’t any at the funeral,
who paid for the funeral?\
I don’t know and it did not occur to me to ask.
I heard she had a brother in North Carolina .
“well then get in touch with him “
I only know her first name annie... women keep changing LAST NAMES you know- I’ve had 3 myself..
.YOU BETTER JUST call A TOW COMPANY TO TAKE IT
WOULN’T THEY CHARGE?
OF COURSE
I CAN’T SPENd our CHARITY MONEY FRIVERLOUSLY
WHAT DO THEY DO WITH A CAR WITH NO PAPERS
PROBABLY SELL IT FOR PARTS
WELL WHY CAN’T I GIVE IT TO KARS FOR KIDS?
BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PROVE IT WAS NOT STOLLEN.
I would love for it to be stolen... Can you arrainge that?
No.
How about I just roll it out onto the street
and let you deal with it
We’d have to fine you
but it's not my car -
etc.......
So In The good old Massachusetts tradition we have a friend...who has a a friend with only a phone number who will come and get it - sometimes even paying for it... no questions asked... that number is now on my desk as one of those details of life which promotes practicality.
I do have a few car stories.... Although FOR most of my ADULT driving career I DROVE A VW BUG-USUALLY PURCHASED FOR $100 AND YOU OFTEN HAD TO ROLL THEM TO START BUT I WAS HAPPY BECAUSE THE HEATERS WORKED AND THEY WERE LIGHT TO ROLL WHILE DELIVERING THE WANT AD MAGAZINES... .... WHEN MY VW’S DIED THEY WERE DEAD.... BUT THERE WAS A VW DEALER IN SALEM MASS.... WHO WOULD TAKE THEM FOR PARTS..
THERE WAS NO VALUE IN ALTERING THE ODEOMETER ON THEM... HOWEVER.. MY HUSBAND’S CAR WAS blatenly NEWER,BIGGER,, MORE VALUABLE. THEREFOR HE KNEW THERE WERE PLACES YOU TOOK THE CAR TO WIND BACK TH E ODOMETER.. I WAS THE ONE TO TAKE HIS LINCOLN TO THE PLACE.. I NEVER REALIZED IT WAS GOING TO TAKE HOURS TO WIND IT BACK... BECAUSE BASICALLY IT WAS HOOKED TO AN ELECTRIC DRILL AND RUN IN REVEARSE.. FOR 4 HOURS WHILE I SAT WITH 2 KIDS IN A CHARLESTOWN PARK. IT WAS A VERY BUSY GARRAge with lots of electric drills... the garage is still there... must have a new project...
I think the computerized odometers eliminated that occupation entirely.. just as ebay eliminated my job with the want ad.
Progress...
Lots of vw stories -- a small k-mart do it yourself trailer for the carotns of magazines --- every Monday at least 5 kids packed in-get in and be quiet and you can go with us to cannobie lake park ( next to where I had to deliver magazines.) for a while one of them had a full cast on a leg... get in be quiet.. we went to mcdonalds--- each kid got 2 items .. one for each hand--- thqt story might be in the dogs donkey book...
Now??? I would be arrested for packing kids in like that...
As I watch all the huge cars on the highway with one person in them.......All this made me firmly belueve that a ve ry small car is the answer to carrying “stuff” -- because a very light trailer can be detached when you are not needing it. Problem there is people would have to learn to back up a trailer.. which is ver y easy .. all you have to know is put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel,, and that is the way the trailer will go when backing... you start it turning.---. then chase--- it -----so you don’t jacknife. go slowly !!
Needless to say , I have a lot of trailer stories --- including ---friend ann---- sending me down her "back driveway" with a 50 foot long trailler-- and i got to a point where i just could not go round the corner involving 2 big trees so i h ad to back all the way to where i started.... ann was still, there... said she had tried to do it with her ( similar ) trailer and didn't make it.. she wanted to see if i could.
