MEGAN MAILED THE POKERCHIPS YESTERDAY... A BIT BEHIND SCHEDULE---

THE REST OF THE STORY.... THAT PUP USUALLY URINATES WHEN PEOPLE PAT HIM--  MEG DIDN'T WANT A SCENE IN THE POST OFFICE  --- SO SHE SLID HER TOE UNDER THE DRIP.... PROBLEM SOLVED...

" you give them a good life and when its time...".

Carlene
I wanted to let you all know first. This morning almost three years to the day and beyond what was expected, Indy let us know it was time. As with her cancer the deciding factor was sudden and complete so as to avoid any prolong suffering if anything good can be taken from this there is that.
I know , Carlene, you  struggle with what these situations may bring to us as vets. But I also hear your words, " you give them a good life and when its time...". Hearing those words using my support network I will be ok. Its by no means a graceful day but we knew it was coming and have been prepairing.
She will always remain a part of this family and especially myself. Together we overcame so many obstacles and opened doors for several other veterans who had never considered service dogs untill seeing our bond. We all owe a great thanks to you.
It is clear and has been made clear to me that I will need to partner up again. Not sure how that process works or time frame or any of that .... going to need a few days before I get into that... just need to process a bit...
Thanks again...
Bud...

INDY DID HAVE A VERY NICE LIFE WITH BUD...

IT ALWAYS BOTHERS ME KNOWING THAT THESE OWNERS WILL PROBABLY OUTLIVE THIER PARTNERS. I THANK BUD 2 FOR HANDLING IT SO WELL.. IT IS VERY WRONG TO TRY AND STRETCH OUT THE DOG'S LIFE FOR A FEW MONTHS BY PUTTING THEM THRU MISERY OF CHEMO OR SUCH..  THEY WILL LOOK AT YOU AND SAY... I NEED TO GO TO SLEEP.  AND YOU HELP THEM..

KNOWING THIS WAS COMING-- AND A PERSON WHO DEALS WITH THE DEATH OF THEIR SERVICE DOG GOES TO THE TOP OF OUR LIST...  WE HAVE A DOG OR TWO  IN MIND TO CARRY ON WHERE INDY LEFT OFF.  YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL WORK TIL YOU TRY THE MATCH---  SO WHEN HE IS READY....

aug 6 2014
why on one day we had 59 pieces of mail for sdp  and yesterday we had 6
of the 59, 38 were letters... of the 6  only 1 was a letter.
doesn't figure...

pups growing like weeds...  and merlow  is pretty picky about who baby sits with her... she is trying to talk to us about it...  even when pam moved last night she very carefully nibbled on her arm... like  "don't move" .

i am going to go in with her as soon as i post this and see if she can explain it to me  what exactly is the problem-- it is getting difficult  to find people of whom she approves.

one of them is of course earlene --- who had said her family  commitments mean she will have to give up her steady sunday/monday sdp visit by september 1st.....  there is no way she an carry  that little grandchild around here while she baby sits. she said she would try and get here for the sunday stew of dogfest..

we have ge people coming this weekend- and i bought fencing so we can split the "A" field into 4 parts....one off each of the dog houses  deagle and nutt... the middle one a run off th e  house front door... and...4th... the muddy one at the  bottom of the hill where the stream and frogs make white dogs into black ones.

so many recipients reports  i get off easy today

lydia report
Lydia great in car-- even when and ambulance passed us blaring sirens and we had to pull over and everyone was honking like crazy to get back into the road. Lydia was cool as a cucumber.
Practiced walk with vest to dog park then took vest off, clipped 16ft leash on and let her be freer. She had to be prodded to go enjoy, but she got the hang of it. And when I put vest back on for the walk back, she was right back in service mode again.
She met Chloe, my little one at dog park. They were fine. Minor tiff tonight, but they seem to be finding their space.
Lydia LOVES her yard, plushy beds, and her new toys.
I will check in with you by Wed night at latest!
Thank you again, Lydia is a very very special girl.
Must get to sleep, we have a super busy day tomorrow!
with gratitude,

wicked report
So, day 2 of classes went off without a hitch! Wicked did a great job with three classes today, picking up my daughter from camp, a doctors appointment AND the grocery store. she was a tired girl when we got home.
She's settling in at the house, though she stays close to me and I walk around with a lovely black, grey and white shadow. She's decided that she likes one of the cats, but is very suspicious of the other!
Here she is looking lovely on the campus green:

and boris
Hello Carlene,

I have some interesting stories for you. I attached a couple of pictures to this email for you, too!!!

My sister's graduation was last month, and boy, was it an interesting day. The graduating class was 21 students, so you can imagine it was not a 'huge' crowd, and we were luckily able to get an end seat. When I sat down, I was surprised to see that they had tied all the chairs together so that you couldn't move any of them, but thought nothing of it. I brought Boris's little mat and he was such a good boy and laid beside me. Then the ceremony began and well, let me just say, I did not expect the bagpipers to come marching in. Boris is still working on loud noises like that and it was so incredibly loud. My own ears were ringing and the entire floor was vibrating. To make matters worse, the musicians lined up against the wall only TEN feet away from us, right next to my dog. Boris was trembling violently and leaning up against me (since we had to stand for the entrance of the graduates). As I said before, the chairs were tied together, so the entire row of chairs was vibrating in sequence with Boris, like an earthquake. These men in their kilts played for a good 5 minutes and poor Boris was just a mess. He trembled for most of the graduation on his mat, but I reassured him over and over that he was okay and reminded him that he was a good boy. Admittedly, it was very funny. I still laugh when I think about it! People commented later about how they could feel his tremors at the other end of the row. I'm not sure he'll ever be a fan of bag piping, though!

When the ceremony was over, we took pictures and eventually got in our car to go home to the graduation party. Well, we didn't get home very quickly. First we had to repair a flat tire...and you have to imagine a Honda CRV with a dog in the hatchback, my mom and me in the backseat, and my elderly great Aunt and father in the front. The car was pretty packed. So, we're on the side of the highway, and of course...Boris is standing on top of where the spare tire is. We didn't want to take him out of the car with the busy highway beside us, so we did what any truly crazy family would do: we made it work. My mom folded down the backseat, so that I could get Boris to get into the backseat with me and thus, access the tire. Well, low and behold, Boris ends up in my lap instead, and decides to sit right on top me like an oversized baby. My mom and dad were outside changing the tire, so it was just me, my great aunt, and a giant 140lb Great Dane on my lap inside that car. As painful as it was, he was being so well behaved and wagging his tail. It only took my father fifteen minutes or less to finish up before we drove off down the high way. It's those fun times that remind me why big dogs are amazing.

Then only a couple weeks ago, I went on a college road trip, visiting three colleges in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with my lovable service dog and my mother. It was the first time Boris had ever been away from the house for more than a day, so you could guess my nervousness. Overall the trip went really well. Boris slept on his blankies in the hotels, sat quietly in the backseat when we drove anywhere, and behaved really well in new situations. The first night in the hotel was scary for him because he didn't understand why we weren't going home, but on the second night, he fell asleep from exhaustion. In addition to interesting new living arrangements, Boris got to see the Amish countryside in Lancaster, PA, go clothes shopping with me, and of course, pull me around on all of the college campuses. I must say, college touring is great for training a dog to pull a wheelchair. He caught on quickly that I wanted him to pull, and he's doing so great with it, especially through doorways, which are not wide enough for both of us to pass through.

I was, however, horrified at how 'not' accessible these campuses were. They all had ramps, but few or no automatic door openers. It would be impossible for me to live on a campus if I had to try to open those heavy doors everywhere I went. One college dean loved me so much that he promised to talk to the new admissions director about installing door openers on all doors. He has kept to his promise and is working diligently on getting everything together. Even if I don't end up going there, I have helped someone else who needs an accessible campus. I was pretty sure it was illegal not to already have had these installations, but they sure get away with it. In the end, Boris was definitely a memorable piece for the admission deans (it's hard to forget the bubbly, sarcastic girl with the giant Dane)! It was so much fun, though. Next year, we'll be attending one of them (unbeknownst to Boris). I hope he's ready because I'm not! haha! Thank you as always for what you do!!!

WILD MAIL DAY YESTERDAY-- WE HAD 53 PIECES OF SDP MAAIL  -- MANY SPIRIT STICKS---- WE NOW HAVE 3 BUCKETS FULL-- SOME PEOPLE THINK THERE IS A DEADLINE-- THAT IS TO DESIGN THE SHIRTS-- NO DEADLINE ON THE STICKS--BUT TO GET IN THE SHIRT ORDER IT WOULD HELP TO GET THEM IN SOON...

SHELIA EMAILED YESTERDAY SEVERAL TIMES FOR COPIES OF DESIGN SUGGESTIONS  SO I BE SHE IS SETTLING ON THAT TODAY

ALSO SHE IS SUPPOSED TO CALL DIG SAFE... TO LOCATE THE WIRES IN THE DRIVEWAY SO WE CAN PUT IN THE HOLES FOR THE SIGN.. LAST TIME DIGSAFE WAS HERE DOWN BY THE BARN, THE MAN QUIT AND LEFT IN TEARS..  WHEN YOU LIVE ON A FARM AND YOU HAVE SOME WATER OR ELECTRICAL EMERGENCY  YOU JUST DIG ANOTHER HOLE AND PUT STUFF IN IT.. FOR VARIOUS REASONS THERE HAVE BEEN 3 TRENCHES 4 FOOT DEEP  FROM HOUSE TO BARN.

WORST CASE WAS AN UNDERGROUND WATER LEAK -- MUST HAVE LEAKED FOR A MONTH-- FINALLY PRESSURE KEPT DROPPING AND WE PAID ATTENTION-- ALSO WE GOT THE WATER BILL...  THE LEAK BEING ON MY SIDE OF THE METER,... IT WAS MY BILL...

HOPEFULLY THAT TYPE  PROBLEM IS IN MY PAST
(OH I WISH I HAD NOT SAID THAT.......)

SO BACK TO THE HOLES FOR THE SIGN....IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW NEW ENGLAND IS VERY FAMOUS FOR LOBSTER-- AND ROCKS.. SO HOLE DIGGING WILL TEST  YOUR METTLE .  AND I KNOW ALL ABOUT POST HOLE DIGGERS-- YOU BANG THEM INTO THE GROUND, GET A CUPFULL OF DIRT AND AS YOU LIFT THEM, ONE PEBBLE WILL HOLD THE  THING APART SO ALL THE DIRT WILL FALL OUT-- BUT YOU HAVE GOT THE ONE PEBBLE OUT OF THE   HOLE.   FOR A TYPICAL HOLE, I FIND MY SOP SPOON TO BE FAR MORE EFFICIENT-- PROBLEM HERE IS THESE HOLES HAVE TO GO DOWN 3 FEET-- THAT IS A LONG WAY FOR ME TO REACH WITH THE SPOON... IT HAS BEEN DONE...  BUT...

I COULD SIT IN MY TRACTOR AND DIG A 3'  HOLE IN 7 MINUTES OR LESS--- PROBLEM THERE IS ... IT WOULD BE A BIG HOLE.. NOT CONDUCIVE TO SUPPORT..... SO THE PLAN IS TO DIG WITH THE TRACTOR, AND PUT IN THESE CARDBOARD "SONNA"? TUBES-- THEY ARE SORT OF A TEMP HOLE WHICH YOU CAN CEMENT IN PLACE--- THEN WHEN YOU PUT IN THE POST, YOU FILL AROUND THE POST WITH SOMETHING "PACKABLE" LIKE STONE DUST...

THE FLAGPOLE IS PUT UP THAT WAY.   IT IS NOT 100% VERTICAL -- BUT AROUND HERE NOTHING IS-

PEOPLE WITH  POINTY MINDS AND LEVELS  ARE NOT REALLY WELCOME HERE.

PIECES OF STRING AND SIPHON HOSE GOES A LONG WAY IN MY BUILDING CAREER...

WHICH GOES BACK  40 YEARS.....  I REMEMBER.....
WHILE DRIVING WANT AD MAGAZINES AROUND ONE JULY, I NOTICED A PONY TIED TO A TREE IN SOMEONE'S YARD IN NORTH READING--- IT WAS THIN-- AND NO WATER BUCKET IN JULY HEAT... IT WAS THERE THE NEXT DAY  --

SO INSTEAD OF REPORTING IT, I OFFERED TO BUY IT FOR $25-   AND  I BECAME THT OWNER OF "BONES"   I DIDN'T WANT TO PUT IT IN THE BARN WITH THE REST ALTHO IF HE HAD MUCH WRONG WITH HIM  HE  WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD.... SO I PUT HIM IN A SEPARATE PEN-- WHICH  IN A NORMAL HOUSE WOULD HAE BEEN CALLED THE FRONT YARD.  HE BECAME OUR 4-H CLUB PROJECT AND RETURNED TO HEALTH JUST FINE.

PROBLEM 1.  I IMMEDIATELY WAS REPORTED TO THE MSPCA THAT I WAS STARVING  MY ANIMALS.. AND THAT BUNCH ARRIVED IN FULL FORCE( THEY APPARENTLY DON'T COVER NORTH READING)-  THEY  LISTENED TO MY STORY AND INSPECTED THE 15 OR SO  FAT BEASTS IN THE BACK FIELD..  BUT THEY DID SAY HE NEEDED A SHELTER..

SO--- TRYING TO BE CORRECT -- FOR THE LAST TIME IN MY BUILDING CAREER WITH BUILDING INSPECTORS. I TRIED TO
GET A PERMIT TO BUILD A SMALL8 X 12  PONY SHELTER AND MAGAZINE SHED AT THE TOP OF MY DRIVEWAY--

THE  BUILDING INSPECTOR ASKED WHO WAS GOING TO BUILD  IT.. I SAID I WAS--  HE  MADE SOME REMARK ABOUT THEN IT PROBABLY WOULDN'T STAND UP LONG ENOUGH TO NEED A PERMIT...
IT WAS JUST THE START OF  ME VS THEM----GOTTA LOVE  THESE TYPES..

THAT WAS 40 YEARS AGO-- THE THING STILL STANDS-- I SAW IT WITHIN THE PAST M ONTH...  THE WALLS ARE 1/4 " PLYWOOD... JUST ENOUGH TO HOLD UP THE PAINT.

I WENT FROM THAT GUY TO THE IPSWICH BUILDING INSPECTOR  WHO (FOR ANY NEW CAMERA PEOPLE ) WANTED ME TO USE HIS CONTRACTOR TO BUILD THE ARENA AND WHEN I SAID NO I WANTED THE CLEARSPAN BUILDING... HE TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF MY LEAGUE, I WAS ONLY A WOMAN..

LONG STORY BUT THE PUNCH  LINE GOES ON AND ON IN MY HEAD.

REPORTS FOM OUT 2 LATEST GRADS....WICKED AND LYDIA

I AM TOLD THAT WICKED WAS THE PUP WHOWAS SICK AND WE TRIED GERBER TYPE  BABY FOOD -- CHICKEN AND SWEET POTATO--- AND JUST LOOK AT HER NOW.... SUPER DOG.
IT SEEMED EASY TO DIGEST AND WE NOW TRY AND KEEP A SUPPLY ON HAND FOR EVEN THE ADULT DOGS AT TIMES...

Hi, I wanted to let you know our first day went well! We only had one class today, so it was a good way to ease into the school routine. Here she is showing off her skills:

THE PLOT THICKENS---  THE GOLD (GHOST OF THE LEFT DRAWER) HAS MOVED TO MY ROOM.  HE/SHE REALLY DID NOT SEEM TO LIKE MY WASHING THE DRAWER WITH ANNESETTE TO KILL THE WIERD SMELL... NOW..... I HAVE ONE TRASH BAG FEWER CLOTHES...DUE TO THE MISSING BAG OUT OF TH E DRYER--- WHY AM I SUDDENLY  2 COAT HANGERS SHORT-- WHERE FOR 4 YEARS  I  HAVE HAD ENOUGH HANGERS TO HANG UP ALL THESE  SUN BLOCK SHIRTS I WEAR... IN ONE OF MY EFFORTS TO GET ORGANIZED, I WENT AND BOUGHT DIFFERENT   HANGERS AT THE CONTAINER STORE SO I COUOLD ACTUALY HANG UP MY SHIRTS..

TODAY--- 2 SHORT

UNLESS MY SHIRTS ARE MULTIPLYING IN THE BACK  SHELF.

VERY STRANGE...

**************
MULLTIPLYING--- DOGS--- MERLOW--- DID WELL OVERCOMING PROBLEMS--
IF ANYONE EVER OFFERS YOU A CHOICE BETWEEN SMART AND LUCKY-- CHOOSE LUCKY EVERY TIME...

SHE HAD 2 PUPS-- AND AFTER 4 HOURS OF CONTRACTIONS, I TRIED THE RUBBER GLOVE METHOD OF TRYING TO LOCATE THE NEXT--- AND COULD FEEL NOTHING.-- YOU COULD NOT DO THAT WITH AT COCKER SPANIEL-- BUT DANES ARE BIG...  WE HAVE 2 SHOTS OF OXYTOCIN WHICH INCREASES THE CONTRACTIONS-- BUT ALSO MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS-- BECAUSE GEORGE HAS OFTEN SAID DON'T USE IT TIL I TALK TO HIM --- TO BE SURE WE HAD AN EXIT PLAN.. IF IT DID NOT WORK..

SUNDAY MORNING 11AM AND I KNEW THE VETS AT HIS OFFICE ARE THRU AT NOON  SO I CALLED--- AN CAROLINE ( DVM) SAID BRING HER DOWN FOR XRAYS AT LEAST--  NO ANESTHESIA OR TRANQUILIZER FOR THE XRAY....-- JUST HEFT HER ON THE TABLE AND TELL HER TO HOLD STILL-SHOWED AT LEAST 4 SPINES ..CAROLINE GAVE ME THE CHOICE  TRY OXY OR SURGERY--- I CHOSE SURGERY--SO WITH A FULL 9 YARDS OF ANESTHESIA  THE SURGERY  LATEER REVEALED OXY WOULD NOT HAVE WORKED DUE TO ONE VERY LARGE VERY DEAD PUP JUST PLAIN STUCK---AND THE ONE BEHIND IT HAD DIED ALSO-- ( A DOG HAS A Y SHAPED UTEROUS WITH 2 ? HORNS...)  -- THE OTHER HORN HAD 2 NICE LIVELY FEMALE PUPS--..

SO THAT WAS MY 2 LUCKY CHOICES OF THE DAY --- GO... AND ...OPERATE.

THAT IS PLAN A FOR THE DAY

HI CARLENE,

I KNOW YOU LOVE CUT AND PASTES.  HERE IS ONE FOR THE DD.  I KNOE US RECIPIENTS ALWAYS WRITE ABOUT HOW GREAT OUR SERVICE DOGS ARE, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON IVY AND WHAT SHE DOES WHEN SHE IS NOW WORKING.

1.  WHEN I PUT HER OUT IN THE MORNING, SHE GOES ON A FLUFFY AND IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE SHE DOES PUPPY YOGA.

2.  SHE LOVES, LOVES TENNIS BALLS AND HAS ONE IN PARTICULAR THAT SHE LOVES TO PLAY WITH.

3.  SHE DOES NOT LIKE MOURNING DOVE BIRDS.  I THINK IT IS THEIR COOING SOUNDS.  SHE WILL STAND AT THE FENCE AND JUST WATCH THEM ON MY NEIGHBORS SHED UNTIL THEY FLY AWAY.

4.  IVY LOVES TO FOLLOW DREW AROUND THE BACKYARD WHEN HE TRIES TO WATER THE PLANTS  SHE ABSOLUTELY HAS TO DRINK OUT OF THE HOSE.  SHE GETS MORE WATER THAN THE PLANTS DO.

5.  I USE TO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL BACKYARD.  THEN WE BROUGHT IVY HOME AND NOW MY BACKYARD LOOKS LIKE PUPPY HILL WITH ALL THE EXCAVATION PROJECTS SHE HAS GOING ON.  MY OTHER DOG BRADY LOVES IT WHEN SHE DIGS, BECAUSE THEN HE GOES AND LAYS IN THE COLD DIRT.

6.  SHE LOVES HELPING ME COOK.  UMMM, NO EXPLANATION NEEDED.  LOL

7.  SHE TRIES TO PREWASH THE DISHES BEFORE THEY GO IN THE DISHWASHER.

9.  SHE LOVES TO PLAY WITH ONE OF MY CATS, WILLOW.  UNFORTUNATELY, WILLOW DOES NOT SHARE THE SAME FEELING.

10.  LAST BUT NOT LEAST,  SHE TRIES TO OPEN UP THE TREAT DRAW.  BUT, WE HAVE CHILDPROOF DEVICES TO AVOID THAT SITUATION.

11.  SHE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP DREW FILL UP THE BIRD FEEDERS, ESPECIALLY THE FEEDERS THAT HAVE GRAPE JELLY, ORANGES AND PEANUTS.

12.  SUNDAY IS OUR DOWN DAY HERE AT HOME SO IT IT ALSO HER DAY OFF.  I BELIEVE SHE KNOW IS TOO, BECAUSE SOMETIMES SHE WILL NOT GET OUT OF MY BED, YES MY BED, UNTIL LATE MORNING.

ALL IN ALL, SHE IS A VERY HAPPY, HARD WORKING AND HARD PLAYING GIRL WHO IS MORE LOVED THAN ANYONE CAN EVER KNOW.

HOPE YOU GOT A CHUCKLE OUT OF THIS.

i think it has happened again...
it is a problem in procedural design.

i put a load of laundry in- transfer it to the dryer-- then put it in a plastic bag for transport to the usual storage facility-- the bureau--
problem is  that bag is commonly called a kitchen trash bag..
i think there was a  break between step 4 and 5 and someone decided it was a bundle of trash...

so i must away to the nearest walmart or sunday could be really spectacular if i have  minimal clothing left.  it is not the first time.

the hay  loft--- or ?belfry-- as in "bats in the belfry"-- as yet un named--- the floor is down- now the aqrguement about the color to paint it...

speaking of bats and the like  --- we certainly have  a collection of healthy grain fed  woodland rats-  i don't want to imply that these are pets, but this variety  behave much like squirrels and chipmunks in that they are ... around..  and prolific---  there is one that the volunteers are calling "granny"   - does not even move fast.... buddy and his grain have become far too attractive...

i can remember ..... when i used to have 20 donkeys and 4 or 5 horses, i  would have grain delivered.. and the delivery person would stack 8 bags in the feed room-- i would just  open one a day  and dump into a barrel-- except at one point  by the time i got to the 8th bag--- it was totally empty.

having no poisons on the property does not help-- and we can not have any poisons-- so grace is at it with  the fancy electric traps-- which do work , are safe around dogs , and produce a rat suitable for feeding to rehabilitated  owls and hawks.

crazy acres is the frozen rodent delivery company
i wonder how that would look on  our 990
