MANURE MANAGEMENT---  WE AR DOING SOOO  MUCH BETTER NOW THAT TRACY IS  WORKING ON THE PROJECT,   I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR HER  IMPLY THAT " ANYONE CAN MUCK STALLS" -- THAT IS CERTAINLY NOT TRUE..  !!!      .I WOULD NOT WANT ALL YOU CP'S TO  DENIGRATE THE ART OF MANURE MANAGEMENT... PRODUCING A MANURE PILE OF THE PROPER DARK  CHESTNUT COLOR IS AN ART- LET ME  EXPLAIN..
A  PROPERLY MANAGED MANURE PILE IS NOT ONLY  TOP SOIL IN A YEAR OR TWO, BUT IT IS --- HEAT--- EVEN IN THE COLDEST OF WEATHER. - IT SHOULD STEAM IF YOU DIG INTO IT. ----    WHAT IS ONE MAN'S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN'S TOMATOES, CUCUMBERS AND STRING BEANS.

EXAMPLES???   WE HAVE A SEPTIC PIPE OUT OF THE LAUNDRY BUILDING THAT FREEZES IN VERY COLD WEATHER... AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS OF $$ TRYING TO UNFREEZE IT,  I TOOK A COUOPLE SCOOPS OF THE MANURE PILE  AND BLANKETED THAT PIPE -- WORKS WONDERFULLY.
THIS PROMPTed A GERMAN FRIEND  TO TELL ME THAT IN GERMANY DURING TEH WAR, HER FAMILY BURIED THEIR SILVER UNDER TEH MANURE PILE. TO JUST PLAIN HIDE IT...  .AND IN THE  new england WINTER-- TEH 3 OR 4 FOOT OF FROST IN THE GROUND, MAKES UNDER TEH MANUTE PILE TEH ONLY AVAILABLE CEMETERY  FOR ANIMALS WHO EXPIRE IN THE JAN/FEB  WEATHER.

I KNEW I WAS IN TROUBLOE LAST YEAR WHEN  THE LOCAL MANURE DEPOSITORY CRITIZED THE QUALITY OF MY MANURE - AS I HAD BACKED UP TO THE  30 FOOT HIGH PILE, DUMPED A LOAD... THEY CAME ROUND WITH THE BIG FRONT  LOADER  AND PUSHED IT UP THE PILE-- I WAS MORTIFIED TO HAVE ONE LONE  BLUE HAY STRING HANGING  WAY UP THERE-- OBVIOUSLY MINE... -

THERE IS NO SOCIAL EQUIVALENT  TO HAVING THE MANURE PILE PEOPLE TELL YOU  THAT YO MUST BE MORE CAREFUL IF YOU WANT TO DUMP  IN THEIR YARD... IT GOT WORSE WHEN THEY TOLD ME MY DAUGHTERS MANURE PILE WAS MUCH BETTER THAN MINE.
****
I REMEMBER-- BACK WHEN I WAS 4H BARN INSPECTOR-- FOR A BUNCH OF KIDS PONIES AROUND LYNNFIELD... I COULD JUST LOOK AT THE MANURE PILE AND TELL YOU HOW TEHY WERE DOING THEIR PONY'S STALL..
THAT VERY DARK BLACK COLOR MEANT THEY WERE NOT DOING IT OFTEN ENOUGH -- THE BLACK COLOR OFTEN MEANT THAT  THE STALL ITSELF WAS LIGHT TAN - BRAND NEW SHAVINGS THATY THE KIDS PUT DOWN WHEN THEY HEARD I WAS INS[ECDTIONG.  THERE SHOULD  BE NO HAY INTHE MANURE PILE EITHER.. HAY IS A PERFECTLY GOOD BEDDING IF YOU ARE IN A BIND, BUT IT IS FOOD-- AND MORE EXP[ENSIVE THAN NORMAL BEDDIGN/------ WORST THING IS FOR SOMEONE- USUALLY A CITY FOLK TYPE-- WH DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL-- AND THEY THROW A SODA CAN "AWAY" IN THE MANURE PILE.

HEY...WAKE UP  WORLD.. THERE IS NO MORE  "AWAY" TO THROW THINGS.- WE JUST DON'T DO A THINGA ABOUT IT EITHER...IT GETS WORSER AND WORSER  THANKS TO AMAZON... I BOUGHT A THUMB DRIVE-- AND BYU THE TIME I HAD A USEABLE THUMBDRIVE, I HAD FILLED THE SCRAPBASKET WITH PLASTIC AND CARDBOARD  which I HAD MANAGED TO  REMOVE WITH KNIVES , PLIERS .. AND GREAT DIFFICULTY-

WE ARE DOOMED UNLESS WE MANAGE TO DEVELPOE A BREED OF FISH THAT EATS PLASTIC.

BACK TO MUCKING STALLS-- THE QUESTION IS  "ONE SHAKE OR TWO?" is not sugar in your tea--- in my social circles, this MEANS.. WHEN YOU PUT your  FORK UNDER A PILE, if YOU LIFT ADN TOSS,-- or -- LIFT , SHAKE ONCE AND TOSS ---OR ---SHAKE TWICE AND TOSS..

IF YOU TOSS WITHOUT SHAKING YOUR PILE WILLBE MORE SHAVINGS THAN MAnure. shake once is a very clean stall.. shaking  twice is an acceptable 4h clean stall and will produce the required dark chestnut color.

so now you know
