*******
I HAVE SOLVED ONE OF THE GREAT PROBLEMS OF THE COUNTRY...
POLICE SHOOTING PEOPLE. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHO TO TELL ABOUT THE SOLUTION... EXCEPT YOU CP'S---
YOU HAVE HEARD ME SAY  THIS BEFORE ---  IF YOU DON'T DISCIPLINE YOUR DOG .. THE WORLD WILL...

SOME OF YOU HAVE HEARD THIS BEFORE TOO......WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID..I REMEMBER LOOKING UP AT MY MOTHER AS SHE  RANTED ABOUT  "IF A POLICEMAN TELLS YOU TO STOP, YOU STOP... YOU DO NOT MOVE A MUSCLE .. JUST STAND THERE"  AND I GAVE MY KIDS THE SAME MESSAGE-- WHICH THEY REMEMBER... IT WAS "THE LESSON OF THE ROPE"
 NOW....HERE'S TEH STRETCH..

WHEN YOU WORK WITH ANIMALS--- A YOUNG HORSE OR DOG HAS   TO LEARN " THE LESSON OF THE ROPE"-- THE DOGS LEARN THAT ONCE TEH LEASH IS ON, IT IS POINTLESS TO FIGHT --THEY WILL BE GUIDED  THRU A CONFUSING WORLD OF PEOPLE THINGS AND THEY QUICKLY GO ALONG WITH IT.  A HORSE IS ANNOYED AT HAVING ANY RESTRICTION AND WILL FIGHT THE  HALTER AND  ROPE WHICH IS USUALLY TIED TO A VERY STRONG WALL..
THEY FIGHT FOR A WHILE  THEN EVENTUALLY QUIT AND  WILL NOT USUALLY STRUGGLE  LIKE THAT AGAIN..
HOWEVER... IF DURING ALL THAT PULLING BACK ON THE ROPE, THE ROPE OR THE WALL BREAK AND ALLOW THE HORSE TO STAND THERE NOT ATTACHED TO THE WALL, THAT HORSE   BECOMES DANGEROUS FOR LIFE- AND IF SOLD/PASSED TO NEW PEOPLE, TH E TITLE OF "HE FLYS BACK" GOES WITH HIM.. BECAUSE  YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE SLIGHTEST PRESSURE OF THE HALTER ON HIS HEAD WILL MAKE HIM BECOME 1200 POUNDS OF PANIC'D  FLYING OBJECT BACKING INTO AND OVER ANY  ONE OR THING BEHIND HIM..

TO ME   THERE IS A GREAT SIMILARITY BETWEEN THOSE SITUATIONS... A KID WHO HAS NEVER KNOWN RESTRCTIONS --- WHO  SUDDENLY DECIDES THEY CAN IGNORE  THE RULES  AND DO JUST AS THEY PLEASE....IN TODAYS SOCIETY, THAT LEADS TO GETTING SHOT.

LIKE BIG DOGS......WE NEED MORE BASIC  TRAINING  THESE KIDS AT A VERY YOUNG AGE BEFORE THEY GET SO BIG YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM. --CERTAINLY PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE - BUT LACKING THAT... WE CAN NOT REMOVE ALL THE  DISCIPLINE OF THE SCHOOLS AND TEHN WONDER WHY WE'VE RAISED A BUNCH OF IDIOTS...
IF YOU DON'T DISCIPLINE YOUR KIDS.. THE WORLD WILL...

I WATCH MOMMIES WITH KIDS- PARTICULARLY IN COSTCO--MOST OFTEN BY THE TIME SOMEONE GETS TO THE CASH REGISTER THE KID IS SCREAMING BECAUSE THEY ARE CONFINED IN THE SHOPPING CART OR SEAT.----THEY HAVE THIER OWN AGENDA ... TAKE THEM OUT OF THE SEAT AND THEY RUN  OFF LIKE  A SCARED CAT.
BUT I SAW ONE MOTHER WITH 2 VERY SMALL CHILDREN DOING HER THING.. WITH THE 2 BOYS FOLLOWING  BEHIND WITHIN 4 FEET OF HER..  SHE COULD TURN AROUND AND GO THE OTHER WAY AND THEY FOLLOWED WITHOUT QUESTION... PERFECTLY CHEERFUL AND CONCENTRATING ON FOLLOWING MOMMY..  I WANTED TO RUN UP TO HER AND ASK HER IF SHE WANTED A NEW PROFESSION OF TRAINING SERVICE DOGS.
******
IT IS A NASTY  HABIT I HAVE GOT INTO.. THE KIDS CALL IT "THE ULTIMATE WHOA"   WHEN I YELL "WHOA" IMMEDIATELY STOP
AND REASSESS TEH SUROUNDINGS BEFORE MOVING...-  IT HAPPENS AROUND HERE LATELY WHEN SOMEONE COMES INTHE DOOR AND EXTENDS THIER HAND TO A SLEEPING BENTLEY OR WORSE.. CHAOS..

SO IF YOU HEAR A  "WHOA ! " .. STOP.. LOOK... AND  LISTEN.
CHAOS HAS NOT BROKEN SKIN... BUT SHE IS SURE CAPABLE  OF SCARING YOU - BIG TIME.

Hey Dawg had his toe stitches removed yesterday and his doctor, Dr. Anderson at Danvers Animal Hospital, had the pathology report which did show the removed toe was cancerous but the removal got all of the affected bone. The surgery site has completely healed so Hey doesn't have to wear a plastic bag on his foot to keep it clean when he goes outside. YEA!!
We will begin working again and get back in the grove. He is such a brave and gentle dog and the doctor commented on his demeanor and called him a great patient. Thank you all for raising such trusting dogs.

I am a silent "CP" who enjoys watching the pups and hearing your wise advice. I started when Opal had her pups. I wanted to let you know I took to heart your lifesaver idea. My church just finished up this week feeding lunch to the men and women of the Norfolk, Va Fire Department and as they stoped by for lunch they passed out the lifesavers. It was a big hit.... They really enjoyed it. Next month the Police Department and the following month we are doing the garbage collectors. In December we did the Sheriffs Department. I wanted to thank you for sharing your kindness idea.
Also, I had a very large boy "Beau" Irish-wolfhound mix, with what we never figured out. But he was the perfect dog. We lost him two years ago. He was a certified therapy dog and The kids at our local Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters really enjoyed his visits. There is so much to say for our gentle giants!! Your dogs are a God send for the recipients who receive them. Thank you for all you do and all the people at SDP.
Respectfully,

Judy Best
