JUST A REMINDER OF WHY WE GO THRU ALL THIS...

First, Roger Strong says, "Hello." Handsome Sir Thomas gets noticed wherever we go. But it's not often he's recognized at a candlelit restaurant by a pig farmer. About 10 years ago, you'd used/trained his pigs for a commercial. He said you were just starting up the SDP and he was so delighted to spot a "Carlene Dane" and see the successful results of "such a well-behaved dog."

Secondly, Tommy has been doing well. Sometimes when I'm out and about in public, I'm managing so well that strangers regularly ask if I'm training him. At times, it's easier to smile and nod and walk on (as I secretly apologize to Megan for taking the credit). Other times I say, "No, he's training me."

Both seem to be true, especially as we figure out new situations together. Like the other day: I'd just finished teaching a class (Tommy's favorite nap time). Everyone had left and I'd forgotten to take my meds. I literally became frozen in place. This has happened at home in the past and he's right there to help me from room to room. This was a first, though: Between us and home was an expanse of way more than a room or two. He and I and my three bags of teaching stuff were the only ones in the building, after which we'd need to navigate the back stair case and two blocks to where my car was parked. Without Tommy, at best, I'd have had to sit for 45 minutes or so until the meds kicked in. With him, I talked and he walked...the entire way, me talking, Tommy walking. It's as though we've taught each other a kind of slow-motion dance.

IT WAS IN TH E DAYS BEFORE QUICKEN- AND I HAD WRITTEN MY OWN PROGRAM TO DEAL WITH 5 SETS OF BOOKS   MEDICAL-- RACING--WANT AD MAGAZING--- ANIMAL EPISODES-- AND OUR PERSONAL RECORDS.. I HAD IT RIGHT DOWN TO THE PENNY- NEVER HAD THE IRS MAKE  A  "CORRECTION"

 

THE LAST TIME WE WERE AUDITED  THE IRS GUY SAID HE COULD PRACTICALLY GUARENTEE THAT THAT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME THEY WOULD AUDIT US.

 

I THINK  HE WAS INFLUENCED BY  THE FACT THAT I HAD 100 BABY CHICKENS IN THE BATHROOM TO KEEP THEM WARM FOR A COMMERCIAL I WAS SHOOTING THE FOLLOWING DAY..  THAT KIND OF JOB DOESN'T LOOK GOOD ON PAPER

I DID ALOT OF ANIMAL COMMERCIALS FOR YEARS... USUALLY ABOUT 2 A WEEK...AND THERE AE VERY MANY STRANGE STORIES---- FROM --- SITTING ON THE FLOOR OF A MENS ROOM WITH AVERY NICE WOMAN WHO WAS A MIT PROFESSOR--- CUTTIN THE BLACK FUZZ OFF THE TESTICLES OF AN UNHAPPY SHEEP.  TO  HERDING 8 DONKEYS INTO THE BAR AT THE TOP OF THE PRU.

 

THESE WERE JOBS THAT SOMEONE HAD TO DO- AND IT PUT MY KIDS THRU COLLEGE.

I DID ALOT OF MOUSE JOBS-- AS EVERYONE WAS BEGINNING TO ADVERTISE ABOUT A MOUSE FOR A COMPUTER..  THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS  WITH THE MOUSE JOBS WAS ONE OF THOSE FUNNY "UMBRELLAS"   THAT KEEP FLIES OFF FOOD AT A PICNIC..I'D  GO TO A PET STORE  BUY 3 MICE( $4.50)  BRING A WAD OF TOILET PAPER- SET ONE MOUSE ON THE PHOTO SET -- HOLD IT IN PLACE WITH THE FOOD UMBRELLA- WHEN IT WAS IN THE POSITION THEY WANTED  LIFT THE UMBRELLA FOR A SPLIT SECOND SHOT-- PUT THE MOUSE BACK IN THELITTLE BOX..PICK UP THE "BROWN RICE SIZE POOPIE"    AND A CHECK FOR $200 AND GO HOME AND TURN THE MICE LOOSE IN THE BARN.

 

THE ONLY ANIMAL I EVER HURT OR INJURED WAS A BOX FULL OF COCKROACHES FOR THE MOVIE "THE NEXT KARATI KID"    I SET FIRE TO TH E BOX OF THEM IN THE PARKING LOT..  WHERE DID I GET THEM???  MY SON IN LAW HAD GOT THEM OUT OF A RESTAURANT HE  KNEW

did we ever cut beef !! some of you saw this on explore-- we put th e live camera on us because th e pups were outside-- shelia had this brain storm------

heR husband fishes and i guess you make fish bait by grinding up other fish... whatever-- he had an electric wood chipper with a 6" circle feed-- which fit the beef pieces perfectly.. -- PROBABLY WE SHOULD HAVE EXPERIMENTED OUTSIDE-- BUT IT WAS COLD. I DON'T WILLINGLY DO COLD ---

WE SET UP THIS THING IN FRONT OF THE OLD ICEBOX AND TENTATIVEY DROPPED IN A PIECE OF BEEF A GOOD SIZE CHUNK.. 99.7 % OF IT WAS IMMEDIATELY GROUND INTO SHREADS--- THE OTHER .3% LANDED ON THE RAFTERS, MY GLASSES AND DOWN THE BACK OF SHELIA'S SHIRT.

WE BASHED ON -- USING A PIECE OF FROZEN BEEF FOR A PUSHER WE GROUND UP BEEF BIG TIME-- BY THE CLOCK IT TOOK 2 MINUTES 5 SECONDS TO DO AN ENTIRE BOX WHICH TAKES A VOLUNTEER AN HOUR..

AND THE CLEAN UP WAS VERY SIMPLE... WE INVITED TH E CHUPIES IN - THEY GOT UP 99.8% OF THE MEAT-- FROM EVERY CORNER OF THE OFFICE... WHAT THEY DID NOT GET UP WAS THE GREASE.. THERE IS A HUGE SLIPPERY FACTOR NOW..

I SUGGESTED DETERGENT-- WHICH TRACY USED... THEN SOMEONE SAID PINESOL-- SO THAT WAS USED-- SOMEBODY ELSE CAME IN AND SAID VINEGAR---- I HAD ONLY BALSIMIC VINEGAR... SO THE HOUSE NOW HAS A MOST PEQUILAR ODOR TO IT... AND IS STILL A BI T SLIPERY...

THE REST OF THE PROBLEM WAS WE NEEDED TO CLEAN UP THIS MARVELOUS MACHINE. REFER TO PARAGRAPH 2... IT WAS TOO COLD OUT FOR ME TO EVEN CONSIDER "HOSING IT OFF" OUTSIDE

WE NEEDED HOT WATER AND SOAP

WHERE ELSE BUT THE SHOWER-- WORKED PERFECTLY-- EXCEPT NOW I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL HOW I STEP AROUND THE SHOWER-- IT -- TOO-- HAS A SLIPERY FACTOR..

BUT 24 BOXES OF BEEF GOT CUT -

THERE ARE A FEW "BUGS" TO WORK OUT

WE COULD USE SOME ELECTRIC KNIVES TO REMOVE SOME OF THE FAT AND CUT SOME OF THE ROUND PIECES IN HALF--- A VERY MINOR CHORE WHEN YOU CAN GET THE REST OF THE JOB DONE IN 2 MIN PER BOX.

AND JUST MAYBE A TARP ON THE FLOOR WOULD HELP

A GOLF UMBRELLA OVER THE THING WOULD NOT BE A BAD IDEA

SO IF YOU SEE THAT ON THOSE EXPLORE CAMERAS... UNDERSTAND-- THIS IS HUGE PROGRESS.

Hello,

I have not written in a very long time but I wanted to let the SDP know about my Bailey (his dad was from the SDP) & I received much training help from Carleen in the early years and also I am a Veteran which we spoke of during previous meetings. Bailey was doing really great until about a month ago, when he lost his balance and stopped eating. We took him to the vet, xrays blood work and 2 ultrasounds showed his liver was enlarged. We biopsied his liver and braced ourselves for the results. We were very happy it wasn't cancer but rather Copper Storage Deficiency (also know as primary copper hypopathy) meaning Baileys liver cannot properly deal with copper and it builds up making him sick. We sent out slides of his liver to Cornell and are waiting on results to see what the next steps are. Bailey is on many supplements, 2 antibiotics and prednisone to help him eat. The problem is they want him on a very copper restricted diet but it tastes not too good to him so we are also supplementing with rice, chicken and ground beef to try and keep his weight steady. I just wanted to email to see if any of the other dogs had anything like this? Its not common in Danes, mostly Dalmatians and a certain breed of terrier. Here is Bailey with my 18 month old daughter, we all love him so much

, he has been a staple in my life since I returned home from Iraq.

THE CHICKEN SH#T BOARD IS SOLD OUT !!! HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SAY "YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE HELP THAT IS..." IT IS GIVING US COURAGE TO THINK OF THE NEXT FEMALE TO COME IN HEAT... HOPEFULLY SCARLOTT??? ( WALTERS SISTER)

SOUNDS LUDICROUS BUT THAT IS HOW WE HAVE TO PLAN-- HEAT CYCLE EVERY 6 MONTHS + 63 DAYS GESTATION + AND A YEAR AND HALF FOR TRAINING.... THESE WOULD BE 2015 GRADUATES...

BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS INCLUDING ALL THE CHICKEN "SHATUPONS" EXPLORE.ORG AND THE CAMERA PEOPLE-- WE WILL STICK OUR NECKS OUT..

5. THE MUPPIES SPENT THE DAY ON TINY HILL ADJECENT TO THE NUTT HOUSE WHERE THEY COULD DASH IN TO THE WARM BED IN THERE... AND THEY DID NOT POO IN THERE !!

MAYBE TODAY WE COULD SWAP THEM FOR THE CHUPPIES AND SEE IF THEY CAN MANAGE PUPPY HILL AND FINDING THEIR WAY BACK TO TH E WARM INDOOR....

ALOT OF PEOPLE ON CRUTCHES HAVE TO LEAN WAY FORWARD BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT DEAL WITH TH E BALANCE POINT AND NOT GOING OVER BACKWARDS...-- HOLDING ON TO A DOG ALLOWS THEM TO STAND UPRIGHT BETTER-- BECAUSE IF THEY START TO GO OVER BACKWARDS THEY HAVE A 140 POUND WEIGHT IN THE HARNESS...

I REMEMBER.....(?READY?)   WE HAD A HOUSE FIRE IN LYNNFIELD-  THE WATER TO TH E BARN CAME FROM THE HOUSE ( NOW GONE) AND I ENDED UP CARRYING A 55 GALON DRUM IN THE BACK OF MY PICKUP   GETTING WATER FROM THE NEIGHBORS FOR 25 OR SO HORSES- 

IT GOT EVEN WORSE -- ONE NIGHT I LEFT TH E PLASTIC DRUM FUILL OF WATER--- IT FROZE- SPLIT THE PLASTIC DRUM  AND FOR A VERY LONG TIME I HAD A 55 GALLON BLOCK OF ICE BEHIND ME BECAUSE IT HAD GOT ITSELF GLUED TO THE BED OF THE TRUCK WITH 4" OF ICE

 the new deagle house is nearly habitable--    we had dogs in all 5 kennels yesterday -- along with bentley on the couch  -- it is a thing of beauty--- few things to work on today...  the outside fencing needs help  there is no gate between 2 of the outside areas-- and megan does not do ladders-- 

 

as i drove by bonnies a year ago  i think i remember she had a pool ladder/life savers ladder/chair thing...since she has no pool... maybe that would work to get megan over th e 5' fence and the dogs would never.  building a gate would be such a dull solution

 

why did i remember that??? well it was during calendar photographng season when we were getting ideas...-- and we may need it for next year-- but a bunch of pups playing in one of those 8" tall blue wading pools with bailey rigged upon that lifeguard chair  could be a good one...-

 

the gopro filming of the process of making one of those comical photos  would also be interesting to the general  camera crowd..

 

i liked that lifeguard  chair scene--- i can't remember why we did not do it.

at any rate--- bonnie has one.---

 

 bonnie is not as bad as i am--  i don't think she collects like i do-- but she does not throw away anything which lands on her doorstep.-- so her place is a source of things not readily available in the real world.

 

i remember-----when i was quite young....my father once said save things that look alike---especially hardware---  that is what got me into  trouble --- from driving 8 matching mini donkeys  to  selling puppy breath  in those matching little bottles

IT IS ALWAYS A QUESTION -- PAIN MAKES THEM MOVE CAREFULLY/SLOWLY - DISH OUT PAIN MED AND THEN YOU DEAL IN TORN STITCHES...

I HAVE HAD MALES BLEED INTO THE EMPTY SACKS--- THE RESULT IS A COMICAL PAIR OF "SOFT BALL" SIZED APPENDAGES WHICH TAKE WEEKS TO RESORB AND CAUSE ALL KINDS OF SPECULATION IF THEY SHOULD GET OUT IN PUBLIC,

WHERE I TURN UP; THE HEAT AND PUT A MATCH TO THE FIRE IN THE POT BELLY STOVE THAT SOMEONE BUILT FOR ME YESTERDAY..  THEN FOR MENTAL ACTIVITY, I WATCH THE THERMOMETER CLIMB FROM 49 TO 95-     I SIT AND WATCH TH E POT BELLY STOVE DO NOTHING EXCEPT WARM THE WALLS CEILING AND FLOOR TO 55 DEGEES--- THEN I GO IN THE HOUSE AND LET THE PUPS OUT--

 

 

YOU WILL NOTICE I FORGOT A CRITICAL THING-- FOR TRAINING PURPOSES I SHOULD TAKE A BOWL OF DRY FOOD WITH ME AND DUMP IT ON THEIR BEDS OUT THERE SO THEY HAVE MORE DIRECTION WHEN I TURN THEM LOOSE.

SDP IS AT THE POINT SHELIA OBRIEN WAS TALKING ABOUT WHEN SHE CERTIFIED US-- "SOMEBODY WILL GIVE YOU MONEY TO GROW-- AND YOU WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DO THAT---OR DIE  THE SITUATION THEN BECOMES HAVING A BASE OF DONORS WHO WILL MAINTAIN THE GROWTH"

  for maybe 2 hours?????  i finally told tim i was going across the driveway to stew... and came back 3 hours later and  the screen was not blue--- it was black.  but he did get it going eventually.

 

i do not understand how it ( this explore camera) can run perfectly and with no one touching it.. decide to just quit-- but that is why i am a button pusher as opposed to a technical design person.

 the tirade of the day has to be about phone calls .

 

i go to bed when the overnight person gets here  (7pm)

at some point in raising pups you have to calculate priorities and take as few chances as possible.

there are several facts

 

with dane pups..... the world is their chew toy

with camera people it is possible to mentally get twisted round one thought.so absolutely nothing is as important as calling me after bedtime  to tell me  something i already know.

"there is a bird in the dog's room"

"the dogs can't sleep with the lights on"

"they are tearing up a blanket"

 

and before you get caught up with the  " what if it forms a blockage in their gut?"

there have been at least 14,000 other what if's  since they were born.-starting with  they eat rocks !

at some point you have to take a chance- hopefully small- 

  and you can not play the   game  of

hover round with  threat of 20-20 hindsight so i can say i told you so

 

if the barn is on fire please do call me--otherwise  call each other

 

let me rephrase that-- anyone who wakes me up after bed time - and th e barn is not on fire--- will have their number posted online  so everyone can call them at 7am from  whatever time zone they  live.

meeting with maria at 8am  to try and figure out a schedule to improve the training capabilities of megan, colleen,maria's 5 kids and myself.... without spending all the grant money we will be receiving

 

the grant is to  increase our output of trained dogs.. which means once we get all the  details in place  and produce more pups....we will be even more dependent on the food/fuel funds of the chicken sh#t numbers.... along with all th e  other donations.-- so this is not a reason to figure we need fewer donations, but rather more..

 

someone might call it a bold step forward... that would be the polite people

 

others might say "whatAREyou  nuts??"

progress is being made

 

the chuppies seem to be doing really well in the #10 kennel.. on the indoor camera 

we are slowly moving the muppies to the nutt house- not yet overnight... but soon..

i get out there early and start the wood fire in addition to th eelect heat-- and put them out  for a pee or two.. then they come back in for breakfast-- and out again/( no camera yet)

then the chuppies come up and land in the back room ( no cmaera there)  for training one at a time in th eoffice area camera onn...  then chuppies go back and muppies come in to the back room for  training in the office  "come "  and  "no" training

 

all this is to get ready for the nuppies  and the oopsies which will go in the tv room

  nuppies due 1/29 to 2/1ish

 

priscilla ( an RN who observes pretty weell....) thinks olive is pregnant.  that should be a colorful  litter. 

 

rumor has it that maddy will take perry home at night--- she is here every day-- and jamie will take willow overnight and  she works here 5 days a week  so she will be around also...

 

so camera people--- they will not disappear... all else being equal...  they will come and go  and lead a fairly normal dog's life---like walter....pants...,fido and a lot of others that come and go...

on the topic of farm management...and winter water hoses..

 

Water flows down hill---- there's  not a darn thing you can do about that. 

 when my kids were small- the winter rule was.. unhook th ehose- put the other end out the lower door and walk the full legnth putting th ehose over your head , and just leave it there.... and life was uncomplicated...  the hoses worked.

 

now... these "horse people"   have read somewhere--- or seen in movies--- how neat and tidy it looks to hang the hose in great loops on a wall after they have done the drain  part. all well and good.. except that tiny bit left after draining  will run down hill and form a very effective  1" plug of ice at the bottom of every loop.

 

having 7 pups in the kitchen is not much worse than 100 feet of stiff frozen hose. 

 

so far around the property i have located 3 messy loops of hose that is probably frozen and has not made it to the  kitchen to be thawed... and someone figured out a monster hose  about one and a half in diameter would solve it  -- so that is now frozen into loops- and we are back to the simple 6  'hose to fill the horse water dipping tankin the alleyway.. 

order of the day--- stop trying to improve a system that works...there are not that many horses-- dip and pour til spring.

that  also eliminates a very dangerous extenson cord  for the stock tank heater...

 

and while i am at horse people  2 more things.

 

i have one rope with a 3"ring spliced in one end.... it maes a halter and lead on most any animal horse or dog--- it is supposed to hang at the barn door wh when we have loose horses--- which we do regularly-- i hav the equipment  right there where i need it so i don't get trampled by those idiot horses.

 

secondly   there will be no pitchforks left in the alley

there is this gravity thing-- like water-- stuff falls down-- and yesterday a fork fell with tines pointed skyward= nearly got opal in the chest as she ran down the alley.    i don't care if you end up mucking stalls with a teaspoon... i will collect any pitchfork i find---  and currently they cost over $50 for the good ones.

 

don't you love it when i spend 10 minutes in the barn???/

Sunday stew- per usual--

 

i have a couple chores i need to get someone to do--  like..... say---" mum" in Britain  can you get your son in peabody  to come and shift a bed downstairs??  it will take more than  the usual few  plus megan to move that..

 

and i want to re hand that beautiful banner someone made-- it should go in the guest house.... 

 

we will now bring  the muppies back in-- and it will no longer be quiet here..

happy  celebration day !!!

 

i can hear you now.... what celebration??? 

 

it is the  19th of the month--that's why.

 

what the ...???

 

when i  was  studying at the university of edinburgh...

 no ... that is a crock-- there was very little studying on my part....

but i did belong to the Phys Soc in the math dept.

the phys soc ( Physical Society) was a collection of extremely bright intellectuals- and i was - what amounts to --their American mascot.. 

 

one of the members.. Bill-- had a personal  crusade to fill out a petition  to send to the Queen to have the 19th of every month be a "national  celebration day" - it would tidy  up the calendar and get a lot of nonsensical details out of the way on the 19th of every  month.

 

at the phys soc meeting - under old business-- he would circulate this petition for signatures.--- the petition was about a 4" x 4" piece of cardboard.  because it had no lines- people just signed it any which way  - so eventually it became a 4 x 4 of just ink.

 

but it allowed everyone to get seated  for the presentation of the relics----- a copper hip bath full of misc hardware.

 

the lectures  were very scientifically accurate- but since i did not know what on earth they were talking about, it was just very relaxing 40 minutes.

 

i did understand the concept of ce;lebration day  and still think it is a very good one.

makes as much sense as what we now have --- all those...national hamburger flippers days.

 

so i will have to figure out how to celebrate something today.....there is always lunch at the cheesecake factory...

so we have  hey dawg with us for a week.  he is a somewhat  needy comical dane...

we had thought he could  manage the back dorm room with bailey and luna-- but that was not to his liking  so at midnight i got up and colleen2 ( overnight person) and i shifted him into th ehouse  where she had to old his paw for a long time til he setttled down.  puppies are not to his liking either.

 

a generic heads up--- heydawg  and bentley fence fight-- so probably should not mix them.

we have only muppies in the house... the chuppies ( 2 weeks older) are in kennel 10 which is explore's  indoor camera.. so we can keep our eye on them from here.

kenne;l 9 has tucker pants aka thumper2   who is another nutty adult dane-- a beautiful dog whi is good with the pups... apparently has trouble sleeping next to them when they are rough housing...  colleen 2 watched him  get down out of th ehigh bed and go out while the chuppies played loudly..

 going to try today to have a volunteer play with one group then the other in th eback room  while i fool with one pup - leash training -- in the house/office area.

 

today's volunteer  is  camera person  treeski  aka chip

  we need 9am volunteers to keep this going... we have a few...  if you can commit to a couple hours at 9am  please do... it would be easier for two people--

Hi Carlene,

I thought Pink was spectacular when I first received her (and she was) but after months and many miles together it's amazing how much better she and we are. It now feels seamless between us almost as if she is reading my thoughts. I don't think I've ever been closer to another living creature except for my husband in case he is reading this.

I also think I've become very knowledgeable about having a service dog in the hospital. We just had a very lengthy stay and Pink was welcomed and adored everywhere including ICU and the Recovery Room. The first face I saw waking up from surgery was a happy little Merle one. I really think her presence helped me get better medical care as doctors and nurses spent more time in my room sitting and playing with Pink.

whewwwww.!

 

the chuppies spen t th e night in the kennel 10-- we kept track of them from here... and they look all right.

this means them muppies were here in the house.. until 5am 

 

paul set the fire for the  nutthouse-- all i needed was a match. we then let them out for 1/2 hour an d back to eat breakfast-- now they are wandering like normal dogs  quiet inquisitive  no chewing on each other etc...

 

this is huge progress..

 

next to swap them  so i can do the leash training  bit with the chupies..

hillary was overnight   which meant we had bumpie here too...  he is such a lovely dog  and a great daddy dog too

 

except.... when he is around we have to put up pee deflectors on every corner because regardless of how nice a dog, his instinct is to tell any passing dog how tall he is.. and  he is very talented-- he can reach the third shelf on the bookcase.

 

i don't know how ADI would feel about having yellow stained   records-- being mostly oriented to small dogs ( labs and goldens) i bet they never thought of insisting that all medical records not be urine stained.

our old golf cart needed 6 new batteries at about $100 each so anne and i went to look over the situation...  I was all set to pay  $3000 for  one nice replacement  -turned my back and she made a deal for 2 of the same ones for $4700-- way to go anne

 i spent a great deal of time yesterday doing up a new schedule  taking into consideration  dogs-- pups--explore--  cameras  and existing volunteers....

 

the part i really need to have volunteer help with--- is a very organized 9am-10:30  daily help managing and training all these pups.. i think we have the coverage... but it is the kind where everybody arrives the same day  and sit around and drink coffee..

 

if we could have volunteers be available at 9am specifically for puppy management- it would improve our performance..  i need someone to sit in the back room and keep the pups clean and happy  while shuffling one pup at a time thru the kitchen door for me to play with under controled situation.

 

before 9 and after 10:30 you can do the things you usually do... but i need to get organized...  and 10:30 i should go out with   megan and some older dogs.

 

plus i want to fool with  cameras off site...

 

people around explore seem to have a lot of cameras-- like that mike--- he had some underwater idiot proof cameras-- i think he offered me one... i need to chase  that idea.

wellllllll....

 

explore called and said they are processing a lovely grant for us-- so now we have th e problem of how best to use that..

 

that problem is not a bad one.... it means we can plan ahead---

 

looking at it from the top down.....it means we need to pray that no more females come in heat til we see if olive is prego -- and how many....  remember we have noel  who george said had at least 4 pups in her  

 

keep in mind you can not count pups  til they are nursing.. however... all indications.... and olive's owner said she thinks olive is pregnant-- 

i hope so ... olicve had some beautiful pups---- (and a lot of colored  pups that did not look alike...)

and more help is possible..  thankfully--  but as we use this money to grow, it means we will be even more dependent on the donations and volunteers

 

plus... there were things talked about which could be fun-- like a roving camera so we could do short tapes of out working the dogs in public--- and some other odd things that go on around here which might be of interest to the "camera people"

Doing good! Thank you for the service vest link.

Lu seems to be enjoying herself. I've been giving her two cups of kibble in the morning along with some rice, mixed with finely diced chicken or beef. She doesn't seem crazy about the kibble I have her on (Canidae), so I might switch back to Purina. If that's what she likes, I'm not going to fight it!

She's been going to the bathroom consistently, and her stool is healthy. I take her on good walks in my neighborhood and near work, and during lunch I let her run free in the building's closed courtyard. She met a dog named Kona, who is apparently out in that courtyard every day. They had a good romp, which made me think that Lu could use a nice hike or a trip to the dog beach.

She's a very well behaved dog, with one isolated incident of her stealing my roommate's shoe. Ha! I have an open closet full of shoes, but she chose my roommate's dirty Adidas.

I'm introducing her to my dad tonight - I'll be driving with him and his girlfriend to Utah this weekend, and I'll find out if it's a possibility to bring her. Otherwise, Ann has offered to keep her while I'm away.

we did get a box full of towels yesterday  -- biiiiiiiiiiiiigggg help..

i have also noted what some people call old towels are better than what we -people - use-- i have to admit swapping some off for my even  older towels.

and we got 2 traffic barriers-

 

traffuc barriers are second only to my  lifelong desire for double ended snaps-- i have for years substituted a strange collection of wood and concrete..  then hung scribbled signs on them  telling people to park here   pups are loose

 

we now have 2 proper barriers--- probably the sign will still be scribbled.  but we are started to improve thanks to the camera people.

things are constantly changing around here  which is why we end up with such a weird collection in the overflow room....s 

 

take the  development of the milk department on our pregnant females-

it all hangs--   and she is heavy with child... and drooping even without child... so the first pen we put up for her is about 8"high  so she can get across without dragging her "self"-

after she has the pups and they begin  to get around  and over the 8" fence   ( actually white wire shelving from home deppt)... everything is still hanging... but she is lighter and can jump  so we put in the 12"    when the pups start over that... we attach the 18" shelving. 

 

who's counting?  that is 3 sets of fencing  even before they are eating solid food at 3 weeks

 

everything around here is like that

 

get something all set up  and the "given " changes.

noel will be moving in in the next few days to get used to the 8"fencing which will define her area.
