hey dawg is with us for 10 days-- he us a very sensitive funny dog,,

he would not settle down until i sat with him and read a bedtime story- then went to bed--- and 3am he started talking to me- i let him out- and in and he went staight and sat next to a bag of dog food gay had left for him.

i can not believe gay feeds him at 3am--- so my other thought was he was going to protect his bag of food from gisselle -- our resident rat --who is living under the file cabinet with a stash of milk bones

we have not yet been able to trap giselle and move her elsewhere

hey is here for 10 days-- i forget where gay went but taking him was complicated so we have him.

***********

bernard and manny will be along today

*************

MOXIE HAS ARRIVED--- DRIPPING-- SO START CONTING... THESE COULD BE THE PUPS WE NEED FOR THE TOWER OF HOPE GALA IN MAY

******

PI HAS GONE VISITING HILLARY-- WITH HOPES SHE CHARMS HILLARY'S MOTHER AND DOES NOT EAT THE COUCH

************

today's SERIOUS topic is the worshiping of running water

next to heat,--- running water is a primary concern in the farming department and should receive the utmost consideration..

i remember ( here we go) we had a house fire ?1969? and i had 30 horses in the barn-

the barn water came from the house... SO IT WS GONE.... and i spent hours filling 55 gal drums with water from neighbors to bucket to thirsty horses.

and then there was the day of the unexpected dip in temp and i had a 55 gallon block of ice SLIDING AROUND in the back of my small pickup

******************

TODAY... HERE... the basic problem-- the%^&(*^&% horses and their water

we and the horse bunch are incapable of using a hose in the winter because it must be totally drained after each use--- by unhooking it--- putting thE END IN THE ARENA ( LOWER THAN THE ALLEY) THEN GO BACK TO THE OTHER END AND RAISE TH E HOSE UP OVER YOUR HEAD WHILE WALKING TOWARD THE ARENA-- THEN BLOW IN THE HOSE TO BE SURE THERE IS NO GURGLE.

THERE IS NO SHORTCUT. BECAUSE......

WHEN IT STAYS ATTACHED TO THE WALL IN THE ALLEY, IT FREEZES AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE FROST FREE VALVE TO DRAIN BACK TO THE FEED ROOM-- SO IT FREEZES AND WATER IS THE ONLY KNOWN SUBSTANCE TO INCREASE IN SIZE AS THE TEMP DROPS. FROM 4 TO 0 CENTEGRADE

IT CAN EASILY SPLIT A $25.00 PIECE OF PLUMBING.. WHICH IT DID.

SO PLAN "B" WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO INSTILL BEFORE -=--IS TO FILL THE TANK IN THE ALLEY- WHICH HAS A COVER AND A HEATER-- THEN BUCKET TO THE STALLS WHICH SHOULD HAVE 2 BUCKETS EACH--- ON THE ALLEY WALL THEY ARE LABELED WATER 1 AND WATER 2 SO YOU CAN AIM OVER THE WALL WITH THE SMALLER DIPPING BUCKETS.. DIPPING BUCKETS NEVER SIT ON THE FLOOR--- AND ARE HUNG AFTER USE.

I USED TOP HAVE COLOR CODED BUCKETS---BUT THEY WENT OUT THE WONDOW AND WE HAVE ENOUGH COSTCO BUCKETS FOR DIPPING--

WE JUST NEED TO FIND ENOUGH STURDY STALL BUCKETS--- EACH STALL NEEDS 2 INCLUDING MARY.

THERE IS NO SHORTCUT-- THIS IS NEW ENGLAND AND WE HAVE ALOT OF HORSE PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW COMERS- WHICH COULD COST ME $25 EVERY TIME THEY WATER THE HORSES.

IN THE "IF YOU NEED TO KNOW" DEPARTMENT

you have to know all this--- or you will get wet trying to resolve it..

so back to our barn and our water supply-- it comes from this house in a 5'deep trench-- then raised to the surface into the feed room ( now warmed) thru a "gate val;ve" (fancy faucet which when turned off -- drains the pipe back down to th emain at 5' below)

THERE IS A NORMAL EMERGENCY SHUT OFF BEHIND AND TO THE RIGHT OF THE SINK

IN ADDITION--- THE 10 OUTSIDE FAUCETS HVE BEEN TURNED OFF ( RED LEVER OVER THE SINK) FOR THE WINTER--- WITHTHE FAUCET IN #10 LEFT OPEN

IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG WITH THT GATE VALVE--- THEN WE ARE LOOKING AT AN IMMEDIATE PROBLEM NEEDING MASTERSON'S BIG HOLE DIGGERS TO RESOLVE..

SO LEAVE THAT ALONE..

CASE CLOSED
