now dogs..............
these 2 litters are of the stage now where they are trying to achieve dominance--- it looks ever so innocent at the start-- normal tumbling and chewing on each other--- except too often lately it is one down and 2 or 3 chewing.--- i yell-- they stop-- but that is temporary... if the spirit moves them it could turn into a life threatening battle of 3 against 1.
the changes are ever so subtle... i just handed out marrow bones- and bailey is lying on the couch with her bone in front of her--- well within reach of the pups--- but they do not dare touch it. she is not eating it--- just staring at any pupp that comes near.
she has established her position in the pack
it is necessary to guard hazel's bone for her -- because as bottom of the totem pole she will give it up as they move closer 1/2 inch at a time
second lowest is order who will continue chewing while growling as yellow just stands over her ----just looking....
even tho there are more bones than dogs in the area.
those males with their "i want hers also" need watching.. they also may need to learn whiffle...
or--- bentley's trick.... i will just chew this old bone next to her juicy bone --- and we can just swap.

we have all watched mary inching her way toward the food table waiting for an opportunity to grab the tablecloth and run----- that is exactly what is going on right now with bones...
how close can i tiptoe and just convince you that you really don't want that bone enough to risk my bulk/weight/teeth...

order told me all this yesterday-i wanted to put her out with the hats in the nut house--- and she would not go thru the gate---
just stood back 10 feet wagging her tail--saying " i really don't want to associate with those roughnecks"
i shut the gate and she ran right up to me--
message recieved.
so the break up is.... the girls-- order-hazel and opal on the lower beds side of the nut house... and the two boys yellow and bentley go on the high bed side
maybe what should happen is to put one of the males in with the girls and let them educate him.

with the rest of the pups in the deagle house or barn....--- only 2 at a time out to roughhouse--- and even then we should keep our eye on them.
this is also the point at which one pup might stand at the topp of the ramp and not let the other up to the warmer bed..
so we have to deal with that. blue emergency bed at the bottom???
