june 14 2017
we have a due date of thursday..... for the new explore web stuff..
ANNE HAS DONE WONDERFULY WELL TO WRITE WHAT EACH CAMERA DOES...
NOW I MUST ADD WHAT ANYONE HAS LEARNED FROM EACH ONE
with an addendum of stuff  you all learned somewhere along the line...
**************
in the meantime... janine is out of the hospital and home..
not supposed to move much... janine  when told not to move much is not a happy camper..
so she wrote a facebook "educational " thing on how to deal with nurses...

FROM JANINE YESTERDAY
Still in the hospital. But minus my appendix now and on solid foods -
well what these people call solid. After not eating for 48 hours I was
super exited to hear "solid food" but they mean jello and clear broth
. WTF...... I woke up from surgery expecting a hot fudge Sunday
and the nurse brings me GREEN jello.
That was when I learned not to piss off the nurse by asking to go to another floor
and steal red or orange jello. She was kinda fed up already after I begged for an ice cube
for 5 hours straight before the surgery although hard to even beg effectively
when your tongue is so dry it cements itself to the roof of my mouth.
Just so you know when you piss off your nurse, all you will ever get is green jello.
She will make sure every other patient gets the good jello and feed you last.
In addition, she controls everything - she walks me to the bathroom and holds the door
while I Pee. Since the jello incident, she doesn't close the door "in case I fall" - my bladder
is a bit shy and can't operate under these conditions.
Finally, the other critical piece the nurse controls is the back of this lovey night gown thing.
You need it untied while you are in bed, or you will sleep uncomfortably on the knot.
She is the one that ties it when you get up - or not.
My angry nurse doesn't tie it anymore so I have had a few awkward moments mooning people
in the hospital. Thankfully her double shift is over and the new nurse closed the door and
 tied it up nicely.
My big hope is orange jello today.

JUNE 13 2017
HELP..... I   NEED  EMERGENCY HELP.... I NEED TO WRITE A BLOG FOR EXPLORE-- THEY HAVE A NEW WEB... AND ONE OF THE THINGS THEY WANT   IS WHAT DIFFERENCE EXPLORE MAKES TO SDP...
WHICH I CAN DO

NOW WHAT I WOULD LIKE YOU  TO DO IS TO SEND ME A  LIST OF THE THINGS WATCHING OUR CAMERAS HAS DONE FOR YOU  OR TAUGHT YOU THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU NEEDED TO KNOW .
COME ON ,..... I NEED A LONG  REAL...BUT ALSO  FUNNY LIST  --...PLANT GRASS 6 SEEDS TO THE INCH-- WHAT ELSE...I NEED THEM TODAY .. PLEASE EMAIL ME "STUFF"  ANIMALEP@AOL.COM

FOR EXAMPLE......TODAYS LESSON.... IF YOU SEE A HORSE/DONKEY WHO  DOES NOT  REST  WITH FRONT FEET  RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, GO CHECK THE FOOT STICKING OUT FORWARD COULD BE SORE OR LEG LAME.  I JUST WENT AND LOOKED AT ALL OURS THIS MORNING.. THEY ARE FINE...I ALSO NOTED...  NO FLY PROBLEM YET... I KNOW SOMEONE EMAILED ME SAYING WE SHOULD HAVE THE FLY BOOTS ON...  BUT I DON'T SEE ANY REASON TO YET... JUST YOU WAIT... WHEN THE FLYS HATCH AND ATTACK THERE WILL BE NO  QUESTION... LOWER LEGS CAN GET BLOODY...  AND FLYS SEEM TO PREFER SOME HORSES OVER OTHERS... JUST LIKE FLYS PREFER SOME  PILES OF DOGGIE DOO OVER OTHERS.

SEE NOW THERE IS ANOTHER THING YOU ALL HAVE LEARNED -- AND PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, JUST BECAUSE YOU LEARNED IT DOES NOT MEAN IT IS TRUE AND NEEDS NO FURTHER  THOUGHT...

BEING TOLD SOMETHING  NEVER MEANS  YOU SHOULD STOP THINKING..... I HAD 2 YESTERDAY-
" GIVE  HIM 10 DAYS OF THIS ANTIBIOTIC" -- OK   SO WE DID THAT AND THE ANIMAL WAS NO BETTER-- THAT MEANS WE NEED TO REVISIT THE PROBLEM AND CHECK TO BE SURE WE ARE USING THE CORRECT ANTIBIOTIC-- AND SOMETIME THE WAY TO TELL IS TO HAVE A CULTURE TEST  WHERE  FOR EXAMPLE.....YOU SNEEZE OVER A PETRI DISH   LACED WITH DIFFERENT PATCHES OF  ANTIBVIOTICS AND  SEE WHICH SAMPLE KILLS THE BUGS IN YOUR SNEEZE..  A  CULTURE AND SENSATIVITY... TEST..

THE SECOND.... I MUST WRITE A LETTER... JANINE IS APPARENTLY FINE HAVING BEEN OPERATED ON AT 5:15 LAST NIGHT.... SHOULD BE HOME THIS MORNING.... WITH WANDA.----THERE HAD BEEN NO RUPTURE OF HER APPENDIX..

HOWEVER.... SHE WAS TOLD....."THEY" DID NOT KNOW  IF IT WAS RUPTURED  OR NOT...  BECAUSE SHE--- BEING AN ATHLETE,--- HAS VIRTALLY NO BELLY FAT. HOWEVER...I WONDERED ALL DAY LONG.. I WAS VERY WELL BEHAVED AND DID NOT  SAY ANYTHING  AT THE TIME...SHE WAS NOT OPERATED ON ALL DAY BECAUSE "SHE WAS AN ADD ON" -- GRANTED THEY HAD ONLY ONE OPERATING ROOM... AND THEY COULD HAVE HAD 6 OTHER PATIENTS WIHO'S APPENDIX HAD ALREADY RUPTURED...

HOWEVER... IF JANINE 'S SURGERY WAS AN ADD ON... THT MEANS THAT THERE MUST HAE BEEN A LIST OF PRESCHEDULED SURGERIES ONTO  WHICH SHE WAS ADDED..I WOULD THINK PRESCHEDULED SURGERIES MEANT THEY WERE NOT SPLIT SECOND EMERGENCIES... WHICH JANINE'S COULD HAVE BEEN... WHERE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A  "NORMAL APENDIX "  OPERATION AND A RUPTURED ONE COULD BE LIFE THREATENING.  SHE WAS HEAVILY MEDICATEED AND DIDN'T KNOW IF SHE WAS ON FOOT OR HORSEBACK...AND THE NURSE KEPT TELLING ME "SHE HAS TO WAIT... SHE IS AN ADD ON..." ...AS WITH THE VA.-- SO I AM TOLD  ..... PERSONELL CAN GET VERY ACCUSTOMED TO EMERGENCIES AND  DISHING OUT PAIN KILLERS CERTAINLY  IS A WAY OF SAYING "WAIT"

I HELD MY BREATH AND  DID NOT SAY A WORD...... BUT NOW I NEED TO ASK ABOUT THAT  "ADD ON "POLICY  OF THE HOSPITAL ... CERTAINLY FROM WHERE I SIT, THERE IS A LOGIC PROBLEM... OR .. TRIAGE PROTOCOL .. ... MAYBE I AM ALL WET...  I HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE MANY TIMES...  I HAVE TO ASK... IF NOT ME... THEN WHO?
***
THAT IS ALSO A CASE FOR MORE BELLY FAT-- SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING I CAN REALLY PROMOTE...
WELLLLLLL... I REMEMBER  A COMMENT MADE BY A SURGEON FRIEND-- SOMETHING ABOUT  SLIPERY , GREASEY GLOVES WHEN OPERATING ON BELLY FAT...  I HAD NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT  BEFORE...
***
MOVING ON....
HOT WEATHER...I HAVE A STORY  ABOUT HOT WEATHER AND HORSE EVENTS.....I WAS INVOLVED IN  GROTON HOUSE  FARM HORSE TRIALS ( GOOGLE THAT ONE  http://www.grotonhousefarm.com/ ) WHICH IS COMING UP SOON...JUNE 23?  HORSES GALLOPING ALL OVER "THE WINTHROP PLACE"   PUBLIC WELCOME-
ANYWAY... ONE YEAR IT WAS SOOOOOOO HOT AND WE HAD  HUNDREDS OF HORSES AND RIDERS TO COOL OFF SOMEHOW.. IT WAS DECIDED WE SHOULD GET SOME ICE --- WE HAD EXHAUSTED ALL THE LOCAL MARKETS OF   BAGS FULL....--- I KNEW OF A PLACE TO GET QUANTITIES OF ICE IN GLOUCESTER.. IT IS WHERE THE FISHING BOATS PULL IN AND  THEY  DROP CRUSHED ICE INTO THOSE BOATS AND TRUCKS...
I WENT-- WITH MY NORMAL PICKUP- AND BACKED UNDER THE CHUTE-- I WENT TO THE WINDOW  TO PAY.. AND HE SAID HOW MUCH?... I DID NOT HAVE A CLUE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT-- I KNEW I HAD A 1 TON PICKUP WITHHEAVY SPRINGS BECAUSE OF THE HORSE TRAILER I USUALLY PULLED-- SO I SAID 1.5 TONS-- HE NEVER EVEN SMILED BUT PULLED A LEVER AND  I GOT 1.5 TONS.

SO YOUR OTHER FACT TO LEARN TODAY IS IF YOU TRY AND PUT 1.5 TONS OF SHREADED ICE IN A PICKUP,  IT WILL BE TOTALLY COVERED AND YOU WILL  HAVE TROUBLE GETTING IN THE DOOR.

june 12 2017
short doggie...

janine is in the  hospital on the cape cod..  she had an upset stomach on friday-- ignored it on saturday.. it really got bad sunday when she called me for advice.. she had tried the usual--pepto and all that....apparently it got even worse...so peter took her to the hospital and it is her appendix-   not knowing whether it ruptured yet or not... i called this morning and they can not even tell me how she is...

she just called...  rest of the story...  sunday she and peter went for a 20 mile bike ride on cape cpd..... and she said it got so bad she had to quit...-- granted she is  now "heavily medicated"  this morning  but they will operate on her this morning--
we discussed..... what did we miss?  and  one thing would have been logical to do ,,maybe... yet to ask officially.... if and appendix is an infection... tht would mean an elevated temperature  ?? we should have thought of that?
there is the old wives tale ---  do all the simple things first-- temp should have been one of them.
she also  said.....she has so little belly fat that they could not tell with the  cat scan whether it had ruptured or not.
if so she has a few more days in the hospital-- according to her( heavily medicated ) self.

life's learning process goes on...and on...
******
other lesson of the day... pam let the pups out to eat  breakfast in the front  of the house... off camera..
and they moved their bowels ou ther before comming in...
lesson was --- they came in and dove in the water dish - i wouljd not have thought they would be that thiwsty after dampened dry food.. but they sure were !!  so we need a water supply out there even for the short time before they come back in....
they are konked out now...
*****
6:37 the  morning serenade with bentley and chaos.... is getting to be a ritual... bentley comes and stnads by my elbow and makes a tiny noise... if i answetr him,, he starts in---  joined by chaos and  finally mindy...
*****
the only thing i  can do to help out the janine situation..... is....... guess....do something with  wanda -- currently peter has wanda... and janine said he might take her to his office ( apparently he  has his own room/office)  but it is in burlington ma....-- which is within my range of motion...
****
yesterday was dog bathing day--- started with murphy's spedcial  medicated bath--  and finally  ?10 others???
*****
now for the rubber ducky report...
he  is hung out -- you can probably see him with the puppy hill camera when it turns...he apparently suffered a submarine attack  and  has 4 holes all same size- trianglar.  we will be trying out that flex tape they brag about holding a boat together....

i think we lost his running lights in the battle......

JUNE 11 2017i have to stop reading  my emails before this DD...  i get up with a fairly empty head, (in case you had not noticed)and  rattling on about some universal topic is much easier  before i start to try and respond to the questions in email-- like today's  when do i retire my ( self trained ) great dane
service dog..

I absolutely love what you guys do. When I was looking for a breed of dog for my mobility service dog, it was your program that led me to great danes. Since I didn't live in your required area, we found a private trainer and a breeder return of 2 and a half years old. A year later, Franklin and I couldn't be happier. He's calm and helpful during everything, even my medical emergencies. I can live my life out of bed because of this great dane.

I tell you this not only because you guys pointed my mom and I towards the right breed, but also because one of your amazing staff talked to us on the phone and assured us of the breed for mobility work. We had had a failed attempt with a different breed that wasn't fit for my specific needs so talking to your staff sealed the deal. i can not ever see my life without a Dane service dog...

staff??  has to be megan or me.
i will continue to declare-- danes are born for this job... just don't wreck them..

let's think of the logic for the moment....  we have a rule around here to try very hard  to use your muscles to control a dane only in an emergency...

try this... you sit on the floor......... you pick up a puppy and put it in your lap  because you want to hold a puppy in your  lap....--- the reason you have to use your muscles is  the puppy doesn't want to be in your lap... or he would be there... so you are starting the negative...".i don't want to do that and they forced me."
it is a tiny start  but goes on to you picking up a dog and   putting it in a crate--   or in our case a kennel...."it's quicker and i was in a hurry" dead wrong.... it take s  some "plan ahead"    you have to make them want to do what you want them to do....
best example around here--- and it is the result of many tiny footsteps to get there..... watch the dogs after they have been fed....  they can not wait to run back to their kennels, they turn around and a cookie is right in their faces...  if i ever see a trainer ... or handler not have that cookie readty  you will hear me stop the entire operation and have a serious discussion...-- to say "i didn't think" will put that person in charge of poo picking in the flat field.......just think the chaos of trying to get 40 dogs back in their kennels  if they didn't want to go there... --right now.... at the moment.... getting all 12 pups in  or out the door by shaking a cookie container... you must distribute cookies every time- it is the start of greater things to come.

that along with-- ONLY ONE PERSON CALL THE PUPPIES AT A TIME--- THE SECOND PERSON TRYING TO CALL TEH LAST PUPPY IN THE DOOR IS ACTUALLY CALLING THE OTHER 11 BACK OUT THE DOOR...   DEFINITELY SCREWING THEM UP AT A N EARLY AGE.
THEY ARE BORN TRAINED  DON'T WRECK THEM.
****
SO BACK TO WHEN TO RETIRE A SERVICE DOG..?  I ASSUME THIS PERSON MEANS WHEN TO HAVE THEM OFF DUTY-- BECAUSE HAVING BEEN A SERVICE DOG FOR  YEARS MEANS THAT DOG IS ATTACHED... AND WILL NOT UNDERSTNAD " RETIREMENT" TO A RETIREMENT HOME... IT SHOULD  IF AT ALL POSSIBLE STAY WITH THE FAMILY- AND JUST NOT BE  WORKING IN HARNESS.

I DID HAVE A THEORY  GET A DANE EVERY 4 YEARS AND IF YOU DO HAVE 3, ONE WILL BE  HAPPY TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH A LOT.
BAILEY'S LAST YEAR ( 13)  WAS A SLEEPY ONE...
**********
I AM HAPPY TO REPORT I GOT 5 PIECES OF FUGENS FUTON TOGETHER YESTERDAY... I STARTED BY BEING PLEASED WITH LINING UP THE HARDWARE-- 8 1.5" BOLTS  4 3/4 " BOLTS  12  WASHERS AND AN ALLEN WRENCH KIND OF THING---  AS I SAT THERE ALL PLEASED WITH MY PILE OF HARDWARE, I DECIDED I HAD NOT DISCINTERGRATED TO HARDWARE PILING YET... AND GOT TO PUTTING THE HEAVY STEEL MEMBERS OF THIS FUTON TOGETHER...   I DID QUIT AT 5...  AND RESTED...WITH 3  PIECES TO GO.....

IT WAS LOVELY AND COOL IN TEH ICE HOUWS...
****
NEXT PROBLEM....

FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS?  WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPERATE THE OVEN AND MICROWAVE AT THE SAME TIME.... NOT A BIG THING  IN THE TURN OF THE WHEEL,  BUT 3 WEEKS AGO I FOUND A SHORT HEAVY EXTENSION CORD  IN THE  SHOP... AND TOUGHT IT WOULD BE PERFECT TO GET THAT MICORWAVE PLUGGED INTO A DIFFERENT CIRCUIT..  I GOT IT AS FAR AS MY DESK... WHERE IT SAT  FOR A COUPLE WEEKS.
I FINALLY SAW SOME YOUNG INTERN SITTING ONTHE COUCH WITHIUT TOO MYCH TO DO-- INTERNS CAN BEND AND CRAWL AROUND IN SMALL SPACES... SO I WENT TO REACH FOR THE CORD... AND IT  HAS ESCAPED TO THE WILDERNESS OF THE OVERFLOW ROOM.
WHEN YOU HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT FIND THE FIRST..  YOU HAVE  A SELF PERPETUATING PROBLEM
I THINK WE ARE THERE ( EXCEPT FOR MONEY)

JUNE 10 2017

ACCOUNTING.... ONE OF  MY LEAST FAVORITE TOPICS.... BOTH MINE AND SERVICE DOG PROJECT---  SDP NOW HAS AN OFFICIAL ( EXPENSIVE) CPA--  THAT LEAVES ME.... ON MY OWN... AND FOR THE  LIFE OF ME .. I DO NOT SEE WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE IRS IN PORTSMOUTH TO HAVE THEM FIGURE IT OUT...

THE "IT" IS-- I "RENT" TEH FARM TO SDP FOR $1 A YEAR-- THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNTANT  GOT UPSET BECAUSE  SHE NOTED  SDP FORGOT TO PAY ME THE OFFICIAL $1--  AND AN ACCOUNTANT I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS DOESN'T WANT TO TOUCH IT AS TOO COMPLICATED BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GET  REALESTATE VALUES BEFORE YOU KNOW WHAT TO  DEDUCT AS DONATED RENT....I JUST HAVE NOT GOT ROUND TO PAYING  A REALATOR-- PRETTY SOON THE IRS IS GOING TO GET VERY MAD BECAUSE I AM SO LATE WITH THE PAPERRWORK...   I HAVE ENOUGH VERIFYABLE DEDUCTIOS TO SDP TO MAKE TEH VALUE OF THE REAL ESTATE A MUTE POINT-- BUT I SHOULD GET IT DONE PROPERLY...

WHATEVER CRAZY ACRES WOULD SELL FOR ON THE MARKET.... I STARTED WITH 12 ACRES AND NOW HAVE ONE ROOM AND A BATH...  TO JUST TAKE A VERY CONSERVATIVE GUESS  AT THE VALUE WOUDL PUT ME WAY AHEAD...  BUT I DON'T WANT TO SPEND THOUSANDS ON SOME REALATOR'S EVALUATION...
MIND YOU , I AM DELIGHTED WITH MY ONE ROOM AND A BATH---

HISTORICALLY ( UNTIL ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO WHEN THE CAMERAS ARRIVED.. AND THE CP's) ---  I DIVIDED IT THIS WAY.... IF IT WAS NAILED TO  OR ATTACHED PERMANTLY  TO THE PROPERTY, IT WAS MY EXPENSE... IF IT WAS MOVABLE IT WAS SDP'S..   WITH THE COMPLETION ( NEARLY ) OF THE ICE BUILDING  I DON'T SEE HOW WE CAN FIT ANY MORE CONSTRUCTION ON THIS 12 ACRES  ( WELL 11.65 ACRES)
**
I CAN REMEMBER.... (HERE WE GO).....  WHEN I WAS ANIMAL EPISODES PROVIDING ANIMALS FOR PHOOGRAPHOIC MEDIA, I DEDUCTED TEH WHOLE  FARM AS "BUSINESS"  WHICH IT  WAS---
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE BEDROOM ONLY...
WHY NOT THE BATHROOM YOU ASK???.. WELL AT ONE POINT I NEEDED 100  CUTE BABY CHICKENS FOR SOME CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA IN A BOSTON HOTEL----- THE ROUTINE WITH CHICKENS IS/WAS  YOU ORDER THEM-- THEY ARE HATCHED ( BY THE ENTIRE E=INDUSTRY  IT SEEMS )  ON A MONDAY..  THEY ARE SEXED ( BOYS OR GIRLS) ON A TUESDAY AND CRATED FOR SHI[MENT BY 5PM  TUESDAY-- OVERNIGHTED TO THE POST OFFICE-- YOU GET THEM BY WEDNESDAY( CERTAINLY THURSDAY)   THEY DON'T NEED FOOD OR WATER FOR 24/48 HOURS LIVING OFF THAT YOLK PART I GUESS) NEXT PROBLEM----- I NEEDED THEM FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON -- AND THEY HAD TO BE KEPT  WARM--- DARN WARM.. LIKE 90 DEGREES-- DON'T TELL ME ABOUT HEATING LAMPS ETC... I KNEW ALL ABOUT THEM-- BUT STILL, NOT WARM ENOUGH IN DECEMBER IN NEW ENGLAND.... UNLESS YOU KEPT THEM IN THE WARMEST ROOM IN THE HOUSE.... THE BATHROOM.. WHICH IS NOT LARGE...
THAT IS NOT THE END OF THE PROBLEM--- IT GETS WORSE....
BABY CHICKENS DOUBLE IN SIZE  EVERY 2 DAYS  -- SO WHAT WAS CUTE BABIES ON MONDAY- WERE BEGINNING TO FLY SHORT DISTANCES BY SATURDAY...  THE ONLY PLACE SAFE TINTHE BATHROOM WAS THE SHOWER STALL....OTHERWISE I WAS ANKLE DEEP IN FUZZY YELLOW CHICKS WHILE I BRUSHED MY TEETH......
THE ANIMAL RIGHTS PEOPLE HAVE DONE SOME WONDERFUL THINGS... LIKE TRYING TO KEEP ANIMALS SAFE IN AIRPLANES...BUT  TO HAVE 2  SPCA PEOPLE COME OUT HERE ON A MONDAY AFTER THE EVENT TO COUNT THESE BABY CHICKS  SEEMED LIKE A WAST OF PERSONELL, BUT LE T ME TELL YOU  I HAD A WONDERFUL CHUCKLE TO WATCH 2 FAIRLY LARGE PEOPLE IN MY  SMALL BATHROOM TRYING TO VERIFY I STILL HAD  100  THAT WAS ON MY ORDER SLP...   THE PICTURE  OF VERY ACTIVE YELLOW FLUFFY THINGS FLYING AROUND THEIR ANKLES STILL MAKES ME LAUGH....

FINALLY THEY QUIT AND THE WOMAN SAID IN A VERY DISGUSTED TONE " I KEEP GETTING 102"
****
JUST IN CASE YOU NEED TO KNOW....  WHEN YOU FEED BABY CHICKS YOU NEED TO GET ONE BAG OF MEDICATED "CHICK STARTER"  -- I TTRIED ONCE TO SKIP THE MEDICATED-- AND LOST 1/2 THE CHICKS-- WHEN I SEE CHICKEN FOR SALE IN THE MAKET THAT SAYS ANTIBIOTIC FREE.... I HAVE A SNEAKING SUSPICION THAT THEY MEAN AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS OLD THEY ARE FREE OF MEDS.
*****

FUGAN HAS SENT US A BEAUTIFUL FUTON FOR THE ICE HOUSE-- SO PUTTING THAT TOGETHER IS THE CHORE OF THE DAY...-

DAVID DOES HAVE TH EHOT WTER HEATER ON THE WALL  NOW IF HE WOULD JUST GET IT HOOKED TO THE WATER....... AT THE MOMENT  WE HAVE 3 "JERRY CANS" TO PROVIDE WATER TO POUR IN THE DRANS TO WASH THRU ANTHING THAT SHOULD BE WASHED THRU... ( FLUIDS ONLY... NO VERY  DIRTY DOG DISHES OR PICKED POO)
*****
I AM THINKING... A FAN ON A 2 WHEELED TRUCK ATTACHED TO AN EXTENSION CORD.. ATTACHED TO A GENERATOR.. ON A MOSQUITO TESTING  PROJECT...
I NEED SOME NET.

june 9 2017
the finest piece of mechanical equipment i have ever owned is the old gumball yuppy puppy....
it has been battered  and banged on for some 300 great dane puppies... and as of 5 minutes ago mindy learned to use it and is now serving herself breakfast....  the new yuppys now sold on ebay and elsewhere  are  not bad...  but inferior... smaller..plastic...and the treats do not fall  as well... it is the  treat  falling that hits the metal dish and  is it's own "clicker"  type training device.
*******
we took bentley, mindy 2 little pups plus noel and one cleanly bathed black dog.... they "worked the crowd" at an  ebsco luncheon .it was that black /washed dog  that encourages .the educational question  for this morning...
why do you need to put cardboards over the windows in a barn ?
megan had washed dog  xxxx i forget his name.... and fluffed him dry... he had a slightly brown tinge.... which someone noticed...and said.. "he must have a brown dane in his  family history" --- ouch.....never in the 30 years when i have owned all his relatives...(i have gone over the 3 colors of danes before on this DD.. harls-- browns and  blues-- and  personally... i would never mix the colors.... i like the harls..).
back to the cardboard---- and  black dane hair does bleach to brownish in the sun, -- which is pretty un noticeable until the pure black of the next coat comes in .  you then  comb out all the bleached/brown dead hair... how to have that beautiful black shiney coat year round??

i remember.... horsey friend-- lyn cashman- a real quarterhorse person.. had a black QH mare which she kept totally covered in daylight... even her ears were covered -- only eyes and nostrils showed-- to keep her black for the "show ring"..
-next  part of story....  i ended up buying a pair of black draft horses- percherons  from a dairy farmer "earl"  in upper new york--- duke and dick... black ... --earl had a "hitch"  of 6 that he showed--and worked... and he only  let them out to pasture at night, or to work them-- the rest of the time they stood in their stalls and he had all the light blocked with cardboard  to keep them black...
earl  was a horseman of the real kind... he drove the 6 to work them- i was fascinated to be in the wagon  while he was breaking in a new youngster....i will never forget it-- we were pulling a huge manure spreader must have weighed several tons... and earl simply said-- "if he behaves we spread around the hill-- if he misbehaves we spread uphill"--    that was a life lesson to me...
i keep that in mind when kids come here to do community service... if it is because the need it for national honor society, they water dogs,.... if they have a court ordered  20 hours for misbehaving...  they have to add and churn in  lime to the manure pile.. or fix fences in the mosquito season...
*****
there is one other funny story about riding with earl- i had just jumped on the wagon without much thought, and he spun those 6 horses around at a right angle very quickly and i thought they were out of control--that  he had not planned to do that....- i panic'd not realizing the  wagon was  "cut under"--i.e.  the wheels fit under  the seats so a right angle was possible... if it is not cut under the wagon tips over and people and horses get killed...
and another cut under story--- we were doing the kennedy and fitzgeralsd movie in boaton -- with horses and carriages- janine had a lot of horse exerience- but had never dirven a horse in harness...  we harnessed up and hooked  to a wagon much like the amish buggy in the arena and as janine  pulled out into boston traffic by the state house-  i yelled.." that buggy is not cut under" and off she went... she was gone -- for hours-- totally missing from the movie set... turns out  they had intended to have her make a very  sharp turn -- over 90 degrees right in front of teh state house-- but that wwas physically impossible  so she had to go straight -- on into the financial and shopping district she wandered unable to  fid a place to make a very wide  "u-turn"
end of cut under stories... i think.
*********
time has apparently come  to change all these wonderful mitubitusi  temperture control devices from heat to air conditionaing...  these are lovely..david #1  installed them being  certified hivac or whatever -- during thier heat phase they have been spectaculr as perfect air fills teh rooms softly... to change them to a/c involves pushing one button on  each remote-- sounds simple except it is the typical remote with buttons to have the machine match the temperture of sydney australia at 4am next thursday..  but i will try.
****

when i hear of all these ads about how simple and wonderful it is to  get credit cards and buy anything in the world you don't need..  i think of earl and  pulling that credit card debt uphill for years.

june 8 2017
it's like superbowl day--- i am told the bars in washington  dc are opening early to accomodate the crowd.. and have specially named drinks  with vodka.    i am reminded of winston churchill saying something like " americans will get everything right-- after they have exhausted all other possibilities."--- he was right a lot of times....
i am reminded of  other things--- all the time...like horse racing.....
today there is a car commercial saying how secretariat was the greatest horse ever... now i don't know if this was true but i heard it very often long before the gossippy internet existed..... he may have been a great race horse... but he had other problems....so i was told.....to appreciate this story ,...  teh fact you have to know is ... to register a race horse baby, the mare must be " covered" naturally-- no artificial insemination allowed ( this protects teh $$ investment concept)..
back  to secretariat--- i was told  secretariat did not have the required "drive" in the breeding shed that he had on the race track- seeing as mares are only fertile a few days at a time and popular studs are  "booked" literally by day and time... having a reluctant suitor cause all sorts of complications-- it also caused all sorts of wild stories as creative grooms tried desparately to solve the problem... the stud fee was  $125,000 and he was booked to 60 mares a year ----so you are talking serious money --- as all these handlers stood around trying to get secretariat more enthusiastic  about  the project---- they must have solved it..( or else found a way around it)-- i think it was before dna was  "used" so i  just don't know... i do know he never sired anything like himself---
at any rate... now to have the  car company use  his image to promote cars.... makes me wonder if they know that story.
****
in today s DD  i really meant to discuss the fact that--- so much paperwork has prohibited me from inventing things... like a mosquito device..  it needs a lot of experimentation...  but instead of lawn chemicals.... i wonder if it would be possible to  run a vacuum over the lawn and catch them in a net..   i have spent good money on many  mosquito devices and none compare to the $19 window fan with $3 worth of net  blowing air around the dog houses-- so i wish some retiree with  engineering background--- i can think of one in my old home town  in new york... has a lovely lawn-- can't you rig something with a long extension cord to try???   you would have to determine  the vacuum that would capture the mosquitos yet not pull up the grass clippings and dirt. the fact i am going on ... is all is peaceful until you go out to mow and you get eaten alive-- so you must be waking them up-- they have to be coming out of the grass...
the big deal is ... you spray and then the spray company convinces you  you are killing bugs  with no visual proof...  i tried that   as some know... i took a net full of live mosquitos and other flying things... and soaked it in raid... none died overnight- in the mornig  i stepped on the net and killed them... i know  i killede them... i saw them dead...
so unless i see real proof, i am not willing to  believe what  the can says...
somebody... have at it--- you would make many millions-- so you could buy chicken bricks for us.

back to papers ... :(
