in my professional opinion... moxie will deliver thursday- she is extremely comfortable and lying on the sofa snoring... but she has to do something soon...

meanwhile chaos tribe is up and walking-- they -- and chaos-- are getting to the point where we could ease off on the 24 hr surveillance--- except for the camera..

 

connors mother sat with her last night-- and i had to re-start the camera only twice-- so i got some sleep - problem was moxie seemed to think i should  stay with her... so i slept in the chair-- which i can do pretty well-- that allowed me to observe her casual nesting--- nothing really serious yet.

 

having declared that ,,,, she will now have 6 pups by noon ( i don't really  think so)

 

there is an awful lot going on in this house--- and it is getting full-- there are things like...  the extension cord  that could go from the generator to the big freezer in the cellar-- winds around the kitchen sink and goes down cellar thru the  hole made by last  winter's  resident rat .. gisselle

 

yesterday 4 of our very competent youngsters fed all the dogs-- did a fine job-- the fact that an empty soda bottle was  on the floor in the bathroom  is incidental..

 

there is a collection of current projects on nearly ever square foot of this place

my organized battery collection has been disrupted by a bunch of paperwork AND THE DRYED  ALFALFA

 

we are nearly to TILT--  today we must  take an hour and get back to some degree of organization.

there is just soooo much going on.

trying to LOCATE A BATTERY ... I  DISLODGED 3 BOXES OF  STUFF SOMEONE GAVE ME TO CURE WHATEVER AILS THE DOGS-- I HADN'T USED IT YET--I HAD NOT EVEN READ THE INGREDIENTS..  WELL I HAVE NOW  -- IT IS DEHYDRATED ALFALFA AND SWEET POTATOES....

 

 I OFTEN WONDER HOW PEOPLE DISCOVER THINGS-- LIKE ASPRIN COMES FROM THE BARK OF SOME TREE.... WELL---- WHO HAD A HEADACHE SO BAD THAT THEY STARTED KNAWING ON A TREE.

 

OR IN THIS CASE   WHO DISCOVERED ITF YOU GROUND UP ALFALFA AND SWEET POTATOES AND PUT IT IN A LITTLE YELLOW BOX... SOMEONE WOULD BUY IT.

MAYBE THE PERSON WHO WATCHED DOGS EATING MARY POO---

AT ANY RATE  I DECIDED TO USE IT SO I COULD GET TO MY BATTERIES.

 

THE WHOLE HOUSE IS LIKE THAT --- FULL OF SOONERS AND LATERS

BECAUSE OF THE STORM-- MEGAN OPENED KENNEL 9 TO THE PUPS-- I REALLY SHOULD GO DOWN AND SEE IF WE COULD ARRAINGE IT SO THEY COULD HAVE THAT 4X8 RAISED AREA AS SLEEPING ROOM AND STILL HAVE CAMERA ACCESS TO IT.

 

THIS EXPLORE.ORG HAS CERTAINLY WIDENED OUR HORRIZONS-- AND DONOR FIELD-- BUT IT IS NOT WITHOUT EFFORT.. I AM TRYING NOT TO WEAR OUT OUR VOLUNTEERS AND HOPE TO GET SOME AGREEMENT WITH EXPLORE ABOUT DEALING WITH THE EXTRA EFFORT THE CAMERAS INVOLVE..   LIKE MY SLEEP.

 

AT LEAST I AM NOT GOING TO LOOSE SLEEP OVER THE OIL BILL FOR NOVEMBER--- THE "CAMERA PEOPLE" HAVE CHIPPED IN VERY NICELY AND WE CAN APPORACH WINTER WITH FULL TANKS.. I CAN SEE THE POSSIBILITIES -- SO WE WILL CERTAINLY HANG IN THERE.

 

IT IS THE DRYED ALFALFA CONCEPT WE MUST ADDRESS TODAY.

 

JUST THE CONTENTS OF MY DESK COULD TAKE ABOUT 2 HOURS TO RESOLVE.

WE ALL MADE IT-

-TOASTY AND WARM WITH  LIGHTS ALIT

 

IT WAS A ONE KLUNK NIGHT---JANINE JUMPED UP AND SAID "WE'VE BEEN HIT" BUT AFTER A QUICK RUN AROUND WE SAW NO WATER COMING IN THE HOUSE -- I FIGURED  A TREE DOWN IS NOT THE PROBLEM -- THE PROBLEM  WAS ALL THOSE TREES THAT WERE STILL UP

 

GWEN BLUE -- A THINKER-- SAID WE SHOULD USE THE NEXT $10  WALL TO GET SOMEBODY TO CUT   OR TRIM SOME OF THESE MONSTER TREES THAT SURROUND THE HOUSE.

 

I DON'T SAY I WAS FRIGHTENED,, BUT I DID DECIDE TO MOVE A COMFY SEAT NEXT TO THE BIG PILE OF ROCKS THAT IS THE FIREPLACE.

 

I THINK MARY LOU SURVIVED IN THE GUEST CABIN-- I CAN SEE THE TV IS ON-- AND PEOPLE COMING AND GOING HAVE CHECKED ON FIONA AND HER.

WE DID GO TO COSTCO YESTERDAY-- I WAS CURIOUS TO SEE  SHELVES  STRIPPED OF BATTERIES----NOT TRUE..  WHATEVER YOU NEEDED WAS THERE INCLUDING A FANTASTIC LANTERN MEGAN STARTED PLAYING WITH  AND MARY LOU BOUGHT 2 OF THEM FOR US 

 

ASIDE FROM LOOKING FOR MEGAN,   FIONA DID VERY WELL- 

EVERY ONE WE TRAIN IS A LEARNING PROCESS..

. I NOTICE WITH MARYLOU AND FIONA--- FOR EXAMPLE...---- GOING OUT THE VAN DOOR-- "FIONA WAIT"-- AND FIONA DOES-- AND MARY LOU EXPECTS HER TO BOLT WHEN THE DOOR OPENS AND GETS READY TO CATCH HER BY HOLDING HER NECK-- WHERE FIONA'S REACTION TO THE WAIT... IS... IF I INCH FORWARD SHE MAY NOT NOTICE.. WITH MEGAN AND I  IN TRAINING MODE--- WE NOTICE THAT INCHING... AND REPEAT "FIONA WAIT"  AND FIONA REALIZES SHE HAS BEEN CAUGHT AND THEN WAITS...

 

MY CONCLUSION IS-- THERE IS A SPLIT SECOND AFTER A "COMMAND " WHEN THE DANES TRY SOMETHING VERY SMALL TO SEE IF YOU ARE SERIOUS AND PAYING ATTENTION... IF YOU CAN  CATCH THAT SPLIT SECOND-- YOU  HAVE A PERFECT  DOG.    PERSONALLY I WATCH A DOG'S HEAD WHEN I ASK THEM TO DO SOMETHING-- THIS ENABLES ME TO REMIND THEM I AM PAYING ATTENTION.. ONCE THEY REALIZE I AM PAYING ATTENTION THEY GENERALLY JUST DO WHATEVER AND I CAN RELAX MY ATTENTION...   

 

MARY IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THIS EXERCISE... SHE WILL WALK UP TO THE T TENT-- KNOWING FULL WELL SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO STEP ONTO THE COBBLESTONES WHICH IS THE FLOOR. 

 SHE STOPS-- AND THEN  MANAGES TO LIFT ONE FOOT AFTER ANOTHER... JUST TO CHASE FLYS YOU KNOW...   THE FACT THAT EACH LIFT LANDS THE FOOT 1/2 INCH ONTO THE FLOOR AND CLOSER TO THE  TABLE-- WHERE SHE WILL GRAB ANY BAG OR PIZZA BOX  AND RUN LIKE.HELL FOR THE BARN.  IT IS A LESSON IN "PAY ATTENTION" 

 TO HAVE ALL OF US CHASE HER AS SHE SCATTERS PLASTIC SILVERWARE ALL OVER 100 FEET PLEASES HER... I SWEAR SHE SMILES... AS SHE WATCHES US PICK IT ALL UP.

ABOUT THE STORM... SO FAR SO GOOD... BUT I WORRY ABOUT THINGS LIKE THE NY SUBWAY SYSTEM BEING INUNDATED WITH SALT WATER-- RUMORED TO TAKE MONTHS TO REPLACE METAL EXPOSED TO SALT WATER..

I THINK IF I WAS INVOLVED--- I WOULD BE HANGING SHEET  OF PLAstic to catch rainwater that has not yet been contaminated  with things on the ground.

i thought i raised intelligent children until janine appeared  last night and said  she was on her way to go buy a flashlight

 

i think she would have to go to chicago to do that.

 

heads up  on both explore's  camera and this dd-- even if i hook the camera or  this computer to the generator's extension cord--- the wifi  will be out too

 

and we will be dealing with freezers full of beef.. i will need  all the help i can have  to run around with a second heavy duty extension cord to run the heater for a bit---  then frige.. then cell phones  etc

 

this will be short--

it is time for the great flashlight hunt..

.  i bet i own 2 dozen  thanks to ebay-- i know where one is

that is not a good percentage

i do want to go to costco today-- just to look around  ---and pick up aN  SUpply of meds.---  bless blue cross-- whatever insurance i have does not let me buy any more til a day after i have run out--- this way they save 14 trillion $$ annually.

 

one of our bbbbiiiiggggest  problem with the storm is that danes do not like to go out to pee in the rain...  a quick squat in the corner with the "i did not do that " look  and they get around that  problem

 

2 things    along those lines

 1.  would the people who come here Sunday start saving newspapers and bring them when you come---  the internet has depleted the usual source of pee papers for puppies---- please camera people don't ups me any-- got to be careful what you wish for on this internet.

2. someone on the camera questioned  having us walk around in our shoes in  the puppy pen-- and we do try and walk only in the corners--- but  when chaos squatted  to pee i noticed her milk department dragged on the ground...-- were they then washed by th e flood of urine?  i don't know-- but there is a reportable incident there.  momma nature somehow deals i guess,

 

and speaking of having a wish list for the camera people--- it is a tough one... we got a lot of beds  which are terrific and we can use them

 

  but because of the size of this participating audience  i am afraid to mention we could use q-tips or we would end up having to put a room on th ehouse to accommodate all the q-tips people would send... 

 

 so instead of having an actual wish list- particularly of small items like  can openers---  we need to have a list of what we will buy with the latest online memsaic board--- currently the oil bill--

 

gwen - blue gwen- made a list headed by --- shovels--- and screw drivers  --dog safe ice melt --- i think the best way is to list that stuff on the memsaic wall and buy that  petty cash stuff here

 

back to everyone buying a $10 number and we can make some of these much needed things here.--

 

she also mentioned polar fleece---- drys quickly and is fluffy-- before anyone goes and gets that --- we shoul ddirect our efforts to the polar flees outlet store where you buy remanants by the pound-- a bag stuffed  is $2-- course the colors are wild--- what didn't sell to the real world... but we don't care-- so to maximise our $$  we just need someone to spend $20 THERE AND WE WOULD BE SET FOR 2 MORE LITTERS  ..

 THE ONLY PROBLEM IS WAITING TIL SHE SETTLES DOWN WITH THE PUPS SO SHE DOESN'T LIE ON ONE.

AND BATH MATS FOR DISTINGUISHING THE BED AREA.

I PITY THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO BECOME DEPENDENT ON ELECTRIC CAN OPENERS..

 

I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH MYSELF TO HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT  AND THEN I MADE A POT OF COFFEE-----IN THE ELECTRIC POT..

 

SO THE STORM IS DUE HERE MON-TUES- WED

  GUESS WHO ELSE IS DUE MON-TUES- WED-....  MOXIE   

 

WITH THIS STORM COMING-- 20 "OF RAIN PREDICTED--- WELL ---THAT I CAN DEAL WITH-- WE LIVE ON A HILL   AND A FEW  BUCKETS UNDER A FEW LEAKS  WE COULD MANAGE.. 

 

 THE GREAT BIG TREES AROUND US REALLY CONCERN ME...--  I TRIED TO FIGURE THEY HAVE MANAGED FOR 100 YEARS-- AND THEN THE TV TELLS ME THIS IS TO BE A 100 YEAR STORM...... WITH AN UNPRESIDENTED  20" OF RAIN OT DISLODGE THE ROOT SYSTEM. 

  ( LIKE MAKE SURE THE CHAIN SAWS ARE READY TO GO)

IF WE LOOSE ELECTRICITY FOR A WEEK  IT WILL BE EXCITING AROUND HERE...

 

OH WE HAVE WOOD STOVES... AND ALOT OF WOOD....,WHOOPIE...

 BUT WE DON'T HAVE ANY MATCHES  ANYWHERE NEAR THE STOVES

PLUS    THE KITCHEN WOOD STOVE IS COVERED  WITH GRANOLA BARS AND POTATOE CHIPS 

WE CAN MAKE COWBOY COFFEE ON THAT -- BOIL IT AND STRAIN IT.

 

 WE HAVE 2 BIG GENERATORS--- THE HOUSE ONE IS ELECTRIC START AND IS NOT USUALLY A PROBLEM  WITH A LONG HEAVY DUTY EXTENSION CORD I CAN RUN FROM THE HEATER TO THE TV TO THE FRIDGE....... TO TWO LIGHTS. OVER  CHAOS AND  MOXIE.

  

THE BARN GENERATOR IS A PULL ROPE START-- I HAVE NEVER GOT ALONG WELL WITH ROPE PULLING-- I KNOW I AM GOING TO RUN OUT OF ENERGY BEFORE IT STARTS--- AND THAT DEFEATEST  ATTITUDE MAKES ME QUIT WITH THAT THING...  BUD 1 CAN MAKE IT RUN..  BUT HE LIVES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE IPSWICH RIVER-- AND  THOSE BRIDGES HAVE BEEN OUT WITH A "STORM OF THE DECADE"

 

SCHOOLS HAVE ALREADY BEEN CALLED OFF...  WHAT I NEED IS FOR THE PUPPY BIRTHING CREW TO JUST STAY HERE STARTING SUNDAY 

 

MARY LOU WILL BE HERE WITH FIONA IN THE GUEST CABIN -- THEY SHOULD BE FINE -- AND IT IS ONE LESS DOG TO HAVE IN THE KENNEL-

 

BUT I NEED MASSIVE ATTENTION TO DETAIL TODAY AND TOMORROW

 

THE CARS AND VANS ALL HAVE INVERTERS AND  MAYBE --- CAN BE USED TO RUN  THINGS LIKE THE LAUNDRY FURNACE --- ALL THAT HAS TO BE PREPARED BY TOMORROW NIGHT.

 

AT LEAST IT IS NOT A  COLD   BLIZZARD---  LOTS OF PUFFY'S AND THEY CAN  DEAL WITH 50 DEGREES IN THE BARN.

 Firstly, I must tell you that here in the UK, MANY trains will be late/cancelled in the next few months due to "leaves on the line". I used to think it was a myth, but spoke with a train driver one day & nope, it's true.
The hair growing under the gum is bizarre, but I suppose there's not a lot you can do about it, except hope for no infection. It's thinking about things like this makes me wish I was a geneticist, the dogs would be such an interesting study subject.

NOW FLIP FORWARD TO  THE YEAR 2000.  I HAD A DOG FROM EUROPE DEAGLE... AT THAT POINT THERE WAS SO MUCH DYSPLASIA AROUND THAT HAVING TH BREEDING DOG'S HIPS XRAYED WAS CONSIDERED RESPONSIBLE BREEDING.  SO I DID THAT TO DEAGLE.

 

THERE WERE-- MAYBE STILL ARE--- 2 TYPES OF HIP XRAYS   A SIMPLE XRAY $75  WHICH YOU THEN SENT TO  OFA FOR $20--- SOMEWHERE IN NEBRASKA   OR SOMEWHERE== AND THEY WOULD GIVE YOU SOME KIND OF RATING..   GOOD-- BAD-- OR INDIFERENT -- OR SOMETHING---  I FORGET .

 

I AM GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS STORY

 

THEN PENN HIP CAME ALONG----  $500 AND A BUNCH OF XRAYS AND YOU GOT BACK A NUMBER DESCRIBING EACH HIP - RIGHT AND LEFT.. VERY SOPHISTICATED-- AND YOU BRAGGED ABOUT HIS RIGHT HIP IS 28 AND LEFT ONE 32-- WHICH WERE SUPER HIPS ---

AND AS WE HAD DEAGLE ON THE TABLE-- ANESTHISIZED -- THE VET TECH  YANKED AND PULLED HIS LEGS INTO POSITION... STRAIGHT BACK... AND SAID " I CAN TELL YOU NOW   HIS HIPS ARE EXCELLENT BECAUSE MOST DOGS YOU CAN NOT  GET THE LEGS STRAIGHT BACK LIKE THIS"

AT WHICH POINT I REMEMBERED MY FATHER'S COMMENT-- AND HAVE SAVED $500 PER DOG SINCE.-

 

WELL --- IT IS NOT QUITE THAT ABRUPT..   FOR A LONG TIME AFTER THAT  I JUST HAD A NORMAL XRAY TAKEN AND GEORGE CAN TELL BAD HIPS AS WELL AS OFA.. SO WE DID THAT... FOR ABOUT 3 GENERATIONS--

 

 THEN I WENT TO THE RAISED FOOD DISHES-- WHERE THEY ALL STAND IN A LINE TWICE A DAY AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT THEIR REAR ENDS LOOK LIKE.. NOW IF I HAVE ANY QUESTION AT ALL-- THEY BECOME  FABULOUS FAILURES AND SOMEONE'S PERFECT PET... WE HAVE NOT HAD MANY OF THOSE AT ALL.

Today I got one of the best comments I have ever heard. It was from a woman who had watched me walking with Sammy for a while, saw me fall(curb in a dimly lit parking lot), and then watched in awe as he braced and a couple of seconds later I popped right back up and we walked on. She then told me that the flow we have working together, we looked like beautiful ballerinas dancing through a performance. With my gait, that was definitely a first!

there is a sign up list for overnight duty with the pups...  a tired mom with a big litter has been known to lie on a pup  so we try and prevent this  by giving them 24 hour survelience...

 

  along about now i ask where are the people who say raising dogs is a easy process...   the only thing we have not had is a c-section...  we took on a huge worry when we took on the explore cameras-- as earlene and i sat waiting for th efirst pup  i was panic'd  with all tose people watching......what if the first is stillborn????  it can happen-

so for today's vent  let me tackle the relationship to IQ and spelling errors. a very sensative topic with me--- 

 i am a notoriously creative speller  and resent the  snobs who have decided some spelling is right and any other waay is worng  with absolutely no regard for creative typos and arthritic knuckles.

i do assume anyone reading this daily doggie will be able to solve some of th e more unusual spelling puzzles presented.   i know the rules...

   i before e except after C or in a month which hath 30 days.. like september.

 

i got this from some helpful -- and had to respond.

 

It's probably the Book Editor in me, but the October 20th blog was painful to read - because of all the spelling errors. I am sure you are all very intelligent and educated, but when you cannot spell, it send a negative message. You are trying to raise money - and want to show people that you care about what you write and that you have the education to spell correctly. Spell check would have caught all of the errors below...

A final note. I am an editor, and if you sent me a manuscript with these typos, I would not continue to read it.

 the reason this gets my goat..... is ---- i went to colby college in maine-- and freshamn year we  were presented with a 500 word spelling list  and could not graduate til we could pass that test.    i was the only one still taking it senior  year---( one year was  at university of edinburgh)  the 3 years at colby  and every vacation were consumed  with  that danm list. vacations   my mother would drill me and  in frustration said "you will never make it --- you can't spell a word wrong twice the same way"

HOW MANY TIMES BRED? A VERY LOGICAL QUESTION FOR NORMAL BREEDERS... HOWEVER..... ALL WE DO IS BE SURE THEY TIE ONCE-- THEN WE LEAVE THEM TOGETHER AND DON'T BOTHER WITH THE REST OF THE DETAILS-- SOMETIMES MAKING NOTE-- BUT IF THEY WERE MUTTS ONE TIME WOULD BE ENOUGH.

 

WHAT COLOR IS THE DAD?? OF COURSE WE KNOW...... OR LET ME REPHRASE IT----- EARLENE WILL KNOW... I PLAN WHO ---BUT ONCE IT HAS HAPPENED I FORGET---

 THE POSSIBLE STUDSW ARE JASPER ( BLACK WITH WHITE) BENTLEY ( HARL) YELLOW ( MERLE)---AND BUMPY ( BLACK)

 

I DO REMEMBER... TRYING TO "USE" YELLOW WITH SOME FEMALE-- COULD HAVE BEEN CHAOS-- AND HE WAS JUST TOO YOUNG TO MECHANICALLY ACCOMPLISH THE WHOLE PERFORMANCE-- SO IN FEAR THE FEMALE WOULD BE OUT OF HEAT WE INVITED BENTLEY TO HAVE A GO AT IT-- WHICH HE DID SUCCESSFULLY AT WHICH POINT YELLOW SAID "OH THAT?"" AND MANAGEED ALSO

IF THAT WAS CHAOS-- IT COULD BE EITHER-- OR BOTH--- 2 FATHERS FOR 1 LITTER IS POSSIBLE--- AND YELLOW AND BENTLEY ARE BROTHERS-- BOTH LOVELY DOGS SO WE DON'T CARE.--

 

AND THE AKC WITH IT'S CURRENT DNA PROGRAM CAN NOT HELP-- FATHERHOOD CAN BE DETERMINED NOT BY THEIR $40 DNA TEST----FATHERHOOD IS ANOTEHR $120.. RIGHT !! I GUESS THE $40 TEST DETERMINES THAT IT IS A DOG..

I MOVED THE STOOL AWAY FROM CHAOS BED BECAUSE FROM NOW ON SOMEONE WILL BE FAIRLY NEAR HER..IF YOU NOTE WHEN SHE SLEEPS WITH HER BACK TO THE WALL , HER FEET HANG OVER ABOUT 1" NOW TURN THAT AROUND WITH HER FEET THE WALL AND 1" OF HER BACK HANGS OVER-- THAT WORRIES ME. SO THE STOOL WOULD BREAK THE FALL.

chaos--- is large

 

that is the biggest  excitement of the day..  she spent yesterday just lying around with people rubbing her belly--- she liked that-

i don't know what the reasoniing.. but last night she did not wake me at all---  if i had to guess... she realizes she can no longer get out of anyone's way and yesterday she left her bunk only when earlene was next to  her with a whiffle bat..

 

the complication to her life was  charlie--- who is here while steven goes into the hospital.  charlie was given a premere accomodation in th e high side of the nutt house...

but as of 11pm he decided steven had left him there in error and if he howled loud enough steve would come back and get him.  he is a very strong dog with a lot of stamina---- by 2am i decided i better do something--- so i moved the barrier which kept dogs away from chaos chosen nesting place-- and used it to fence him in to the sofa in the tv room-- because i still had to give chaos access to waking me  in my chair...if she needed something.

 

all of that commotion may be why she did not get up and ask to go out-- or eat-- because she would have to walk past charlie to wake me...

 

i had to insist that she get up and out at 5am-- which she did-- with difficulty-- she certainly did not spring to her feet.- plus even that 12" high  barrier which surrounds her area to keep pups in place ... is just too high for her "hanging cafeteria"..

she got her front feet over and stood while i helped her get her rear end over.  so i had to remove that.

 

it was an active evening--

before anyone has a heart attack about the whiffle bat-IT IS USED TO HIT THE GROUND--- OR FURNATURE--- or golf cart...to  MAKE A NOISE IN A VERY THREATENING MANNER- our dogs are taught not to get within 4 feet of someone carrying a whiffle bat.  this is a perfect example why it is necessary in our training...-- we have so many dogs loose around here plus 2 huge donkeys------ and to take chaos for a walk-- they would all love to come and have a sniff.. ..but by carrying that plastic bat... they will all go thru th e process " there is that danm bat...let me think it over"   EDUCATION IS A WONDERFUL THING.

 and mary--(as in facebook's MARY THEDONKEY ) SHE WILL APPROACH THE T TENT- AND SHE KNOWS VERY WELL TO STOP AT THE EDGE-- SHE IS NOT TO PUT HER FEET ON THE STONE FLOOR -  WHEN SHE DOES-- I TELL HER TO STOP- AND SHE DOES--- THEN STAMPS AT FLYS AND EDGE HER WAY IN 1/2 INCH AT A TIME... BUT IF I TELL HER TO STOP  AND I HAVE THAT BAT IN MY HAND  SHE STAMPS FLYS WITHOUT INCHING FORWARD...

HER GOAL IS TO GET WITHIN REACH OF THE TABLE --- GRAB SOMETHING AND SPIN AND RUN WHILE WE YELL AND CHASE HER IN A futile effort to get the bag of donuts from her.

all i have to do is carry that bat and her manners are perfect.

we are to the point with chaos where if anyone on that puppy list has any time to sit around and read or hook rugs --   please come ahead... 

 

we have the beef cutting episode really organized in front of the fireplace  here in the house...with music  -- it is quite pleasant to cut beef.  we need 2 tubs a day... it is a relaxing mindless chore.... and you could keep your eye on chaos..

we  must go to costco today-- MUST---- as in ... i am out of dilantin...just one of those meds you really don't want to run out of.  ( seizure med it has worked perfectly for 40 years--- better not stop now.)

yesterday ---polly and bob took luna and bailey to get them blessed somewhere..

 

tomorrow there are a bunch due to get rabies shots 

 

i would like to try and gt the camera running for a chaotic review at 5pm  after the pups get fed on puppy hill before the y go inside..

 maybe johnathan can  put the  study of a twitching belly on live camera

 

i hope with all this exposure  the birth  goes well-- with animals you just can't be certain...

 

that is about all i know.

MOXIE REPORT--- SHE SHOULD COME HERE A WEEK BEFORE HER DUE DATE... AND I THINK SHE WHELPED IN THE TV ROOM LAST TIME????

 

Hi Carlene and SDP Family,

Moxie is doing very well. She has put on a bit of weight and is round like she was before her last litter. Judging by the look of her five pairs of mommy-parts the cafeteria will soon be open for puppy meals. Moxie seems very content and relaxed and loves sleeping and eating noticeably more than when she's not expecting. She still has the energy to following us around the house night and day as we move from upstairs to downstairs and back again. Her nights are spent in our room on her cushion at the foot of our bed. If I go downstairs in the middle of the night for more than a couple minutes she comes down to check on me.

She's very energetic on walks and trips to the park and always on the alert for squirrels, but even more happy to sniff and watch for bunnies. Moxie has pretty much put her joyous sprinting around on lay-away until after the puppies are born. Even when Piper does her best to annoy Moxie, with her pestering-"Come on Mom, you want to chase me right?" Moxie just patiently waits for Piper to stop. But Piper being 7 months old is relentless and usually Moxie has to gently tell her darling 100+ lbs daughter, without a growl or snarl, to "Knock it off!" I wish I had such patience.

Most days she loves lounging on the sofa in the living room right under the window next to the front door steps where she is her typical alert-self whenever anyone comes up the steps waking from her sound puppy-growing-sleep. Then, she's up in flash barking her big warning bark at the mailman or the pizza delivery guy or anyone else that dares enter our domain. After a "Thank you Moxie, that's enough!" she curls back up into a too-small-for-her-size ball of fur and is quickly back snoring in slumberland dreaming of family hugs, playing with Bumpy, nursing puppies, or chasing bunnies.

we are all set for 2 mothers-- chaos has clearly  claimed the  one near the kitchen--- hopefully by the  time moxie whelps  chaos will be big enough to fend for themselvfes a bit.

i think just to keep the adults at bay  we need the fence across the kitchen door  so they can run in and outr the front door without poking their nose in chaos space.

 

that will also mean we need to find the 3' fence from tv room to the cash register  -- at least for th e  time being.  bentley has no manners and rushes in-- chaos might not like that...

it would also mean a couple of them could be on the sofa next to my computer... bailey's nose gets out of joint.

 

2 mothers have never been a problem... so far...  we have had 3 in this one area...

HERE WE GO.... WOULD CHAOS PLEASE HAVE PUPS BEFORE MERLOW BECOMES FERTILE...IN MAYBE 7 DAYS... WE NEED A COUNT.... IF CHAOS HAS 1 OR 2  WE SHOULD BREED MERLOW..

AND WHICH WAY DO WE GAMBLE.?   . I WOULD NOT BE THRILLED WITH 3 LITTERS OF 10 EACH..   WE COULD HANDLE 30 PUPS-- IT WOULD BE OUR BANK ACCOUNT THAT WOULD SUFFER.

I AM ALSO TOLD PAULA HAS THE TRAINING ROOM FIT TO LIVE IN.  SO WE HAVE LOTS OF OVERFLOW ROOM.

 

 THANKS TO BUD1-- THAT HANGING TREE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING CHANGED TO NICE FIREWOOD-- SINCE IT HUNG IN THE TREE FOR A YEAR IT MUST BE DRY...???

 

IF WE KEEP THE FIRES GOING IN THE TRAINING ROOM AND GUEST CABIN WHEN NEEDED AND KEEP THOSE OIL FURNACES VERY LOW..IT WOULD HELP-- I THINK OIL IS $3.89-- WHEN I PUT IN THOSE FURNACES  THE KEROSCENE WAS $1.15 = AND IF WE RUN TOO MANY ELECTRIC HEATERS THAT BILL BECOMES HORRIFFIC.

Wow, time flies, been a year already. Just got home this late afternoon from one of my Grandson's birthday parties. Last year around this time I was worried how the dogs would behave, Tessa and Lily (my son's mastiff) now they've seen each other enough this past year to be good old friends both very well behaved and very careful and gentle as several 2 to 5 year old Children wandered around some having to look up at the dogs. (The parents and other Grandparents were noticeably much more at ease this year too!) Just a quick up date to let everyone know things are going fine here. Sincerely

back to animal discussions--

i think we need to worm the pups again.... they are looking a

little round-- as in belly's round --- and it has been ?3 ? weeks..

 

the reason i remembered  is.... i got tired of listening to the discussions about the vp debate and turned to the animal planet- the rest of the night was about all the things you can catch from an animal or insect related to an animal. starting with dogs..

and they make it sound so normal..-

some little girl with a nearly fatal case of undiagnosed  roundworms.  they decided she must have got them from the playground------ oh great....

hopefully not many people were watching that or they will form some committee toi outlaw playgrounds so they can turn them into apt buildings.

 

 if it is as common as that..... why are there not preparations lining the drug store shelves  to worm kids like you do animals.

------there are not many people  who have handled more animals and their various parasites than my children and i....and i don't remember any md suggesting that we be wormed on a regular basis. 

 

i have to admit-- in my child rearing days i got a note from some school nurse with a discreet message  "one of the children in your child's class was found to have nits."

that was all i needed-- i saw the possibilities  so we had nit killing shampoo and used it regularly.. probably my kids were the only ones  not to have nits.

 

but i never heard i was to worm the children too- and i am not sure why not...  they ate carrot out of th e garden... you wiped them off in your armpit and ate them... and peas -- well they were in their own little packets-- wehad a very fertile garden thanks to all the horse manure we added to the land.

 

from there the animal planet went to fleas--- and combination animals-- like fleas and rodents

 

that made me remember  probably it is time for gizzelle--- the rat who lived in our filing cabinet last year---- to come back in the  house for the winter... as i poured my cereal out of the plastic container which is kept on top of the refrigerator...... i again noticed the teethmarks she left there last winter.

 

and we have no more frozen rodents in the guest house  freezer-- george has an owl he is treating and we emptied the freezer for him.

but if gizzelle and all her relatives move in again ... we will get the snap traps out ( we do not use chemicals  which is why george wants them for his hawk and owl patients)  we may even have to rent kelly -- the jack russell from down the street.

it was fun to watch her chase the danes from her rat catching project...

 

nothing wakes you up in the morning like opening the file draawer and have a rat run across your lap.. 

 

healthy-- grain fed rats.. or at least dog food---

6 rats can easily  live off what 3 danes spill--

 

for those of you newcommers... last year i experimented with milk bones-  gizelle was making so much noise in the middle of the night .. i finally put 4 milk bones in the middle of the floor and watched as she  took them one at a time to the file cabinet at 2am.

  she was not a huge rat--- we had those too... and caught them-- we never had a small rat-- so she must be out there in the woods waiting to "go south" for the winter.\

now pregnancy... and chaos---

 

we set up a whelping pen in the tv room-- i use the  term whelping pen loosely--- our mothers seem to have pups all over the place which we then carry back to the lovely whelping pen.   many warm wet pups have we scooped out of the snow and brought them in to have her clean them up...

 

the problem is...... i don't think chaos likes the spot we have chosen for her-- but she has settled  by the kitchen next to the heater there-- so atho we have a lovely pen set up in the warm tv room, she has not gone near it--- and even slept by the kitchen last night... only coming in to the ty room to wake me and tell me

  1 she had to go out 

  2 she was hungery

  3 she was lonely

that 2 seater "love seat" size sofa is not big enough for her by now

 

lying flat she would  fill  the  regular sofa right next to the smaller one... but it is her choice-- so we have barricades to prevent her from rolling out onto the floor... she is a big gal right now.

so today will be furnature moving day once again... i think moxie had her pups in the tv room-- so we can just leave that there

2 litters at a time is not bad... 3 litters means we would have to move  theresa's desk onto the front porch..

we have a lovely fire going now that paul reminded me how nice that is -- and bud1 cut down that tree for more firewood....

place is warmer-- and smells better too.

and we have a marble slab for beef cutting in front of the fire--- all set for volunteers
