I AM SORRY TO REPORT BENTLEY'S FOOT DOES NOT FIT ON THE PAWPRINT  INK PAD..  AT MOST  WE CAN DO ONLY ONE TOE PRINT WITH THE CURRENT EQUIPMENT.  SO PRODUCTION IS HALTED UNTIL TH EQUIPMENT IS  REDESIGNED.

2021 2 17

the paw print Deal is not as easy as it sounds ... the best I could do is get one large Bentley toe along with my thumbprint ... to be continued .

---

this morning for lack of anything better I decided to make a list of the  states of the union .. it's a well known fact that if you make a bet with anybody in a bar that they can't name all the states they won't be able to ... so I decided to see if I could manage and I first tried it strictly alphabetically .. add wandered straight through from Alaska to Wyoming or whatever and I ended up with 37 states .. not very impressive so I sat there for a long time and tried to fill in the gaps and I've gotten up to 47 and I don't seem to know about anymore ..so this morning on this funny television telephone things where my daughter is on her treadmill down in North Carolina I told her too try naming the States and let me know what her numbers were .. ,she's the kind who might just remember ..it's interesting go ahead and try it

I wonder if that's away to be able to graph dementia.. how many states can you remember ..

go ahead try it and give me some numbers-------- I won't use your name .

Scarlet continues to do very well.

there is a  concept here ..  Betsy said she used to live on a farm and there were times when an animal just plain died you never know why you dug a hole and buried it ..  now what happens is that A medical person is called when the animal or person is not doing feeling well ..and decides what's the matter with it it ....gives The ailment  a Latin name so that even if it does live for the next year you spend that year worrying about which moment it was going to drop dead but you basically lose A lot of enjoyment .. with the ignorance is bliss concept

Someone I think from Maine is trying to get through legislation so that if a service dog is attacked buy a Loose pet dog in an area where pet dogs are not allowed the owner of the dog would be responsible for the veterinary expenses and if necessary replacing the dog ..  and they were looking for people to fill out a survey ,

I don't put out surveys for our recipients to fill out ..  so I started to wipe that out .. and then I thought how could I possibly have forgotten the business about being electrocuted by the KONE elevator ..  where Bentley and I we're both knocked out .. and it did have its consequences .. basically both of us lost stamina.

for a bunch of reasons suing them just was not in my best interests ..  especially since the Kone elevator legal team basically told me “just go buy another dog “,, and also “at 79 we could just outwait you “   .. I was just caught in a situation which was going to benefit lawyers more than me ..

however I do have the video ..  and maybe this legislation about being attacked by a pet dogs .. should also be worded to include any injury to a service dog .

The VA considers a service dog medical equipment ... so there ought to be logic if you ruin somebody's wheelchair they are responsible for either fixing it or replacing it .an interesting concept ..Kone elevator is not my favorite elevator company .

? street names???
Great commentary on the frustration of street names. Here in Houston, the major highways all have nicknames, so if you’re taking I-45 north toward Dallas it’s called the South Freeway or the North Freeway depending on where you get on. Sometimes the sign to the on ramp will say I-45 N, but the larger sign usually just says North Freeway.  Also State Highway 6 becomes FM 1960 near the Westheimer Rd intersection. When I lived in St Louis, the main drag was Lindbergh Blvd, aka Kirkwood Road thru that suburban town, then back to Lindbergh Blvd at Kirkwood city limits but nowhere is there any signage that says the name changes. City fathers clearly have no clue that people will be moving to or driving through their fair cities and would like a bit of help navigating.
---
You are correct it seems other than New England everything has a right angle corners. But I live in Yuma Arizona in the winter now on a dirt road called East County 14th St. which runs north and south and intersects at a perpendicular angle to a blacktop road called East County 14th St. that runs east and west. The County refuses to give me two Street signs both labeled E. county 14th St. so I have made my own calling one desert horse way as my company is desert horse adventures. All though it is 2021 Yuma county does not seem able to figure out that when they change the name of the street it should be relevant to the location. They have a road that lives on the line that divides the city and the county so that one side of the road is called 40th St. and the opposing side of the road is called county 12th. You can be sure it is confusing to all.

 uber--- maybe

 2021 2 16

Maybe this is old hat for the young people who read this but it's a shocker for me ..  it has a typical twist .. The Chinese restaurant is about 3 miles away ...so consequently we eat a lot of Chinese food especially before we started with Mike as our seniors chef .. sometimes depending on what dog is where , it's impossible for someone to leave and drive the three miles to get the Chinese food ..  so I was delighted to have Uber get in the picture and the first time we tried it it worked fine if you were  NOT starving in a hurry ..  so we did try it the next time and on that second trial they had instituted the fact that you could watch the little car on screen   as it went around the various roads in your area looking for your house so it was possible to get the driver on the phone and say no no no turn left ...  this was fascinating as we steered the driver all through the town of Rowley because Rowley also has a boxford Rd ..  at any rate we got it and it certainly is something to try again as they get it perfected a little better I do notice a lot of their restaurants online have a no driver available ..  which makes me wonder if people are trying very hard .. uber is Certainly a very interesting business to watch .    I am not sure why they can't find drivers becausw  that COV shot project   at the hotel was well covered with personnel and they said they found out about the job with  generic posting on the Internet ..

Fyi ---of the day  ---It's getting harder and harder to come up with an interesting FY I so the best I could do today is to come up with a relatively uninteresting one ..

boxford Rd ... there are five boxford roads in the area which gets a little sticky when you use a GPS------- the way New England towns are laid out and labeled , this is boxford Rd in Ipswich which is the road in Ipswich which goes to boxford .. which means when you go over the bump into boxford it becomes Ipswich road in boxford . I'm sure back in the 1700s when they started this it was very logical but here on hood bond we have the meeting of three towns topsfield boxford and Ipswich..soooo. when you dial gps.. it makes a rude remark

usually if you are lost in boxford – which I have been  because   it is the longest thinnest town in mass which does not believe in street markings.--- I should have  been able to get on Ipswich road and eventually get to Ipswich  and I would have... except.. some fool put in route 95  maine to florida.. so  when I followed the heavy power lines along Ipswich road  I came to a dead end  where they put the lines under rt 95 and left  you in a parking lot.WHERE SOMEONE HAD WRITTEN  "GOOD LUCK   Life happens..."

---

Boxford is so bad that  one day  I was calculating the fuzz on the northside of the trees and knowing I was   south of the mnerrimack river... I figured if I went downhill, I had to come to the river...  water is like that...

All you folk  not from new England only know about right angle streets—you musta had cows that only knew   perpendicular—new England cows  wandered, giving us a much more creative landscape.

I am reminded of the  down maine stories “BERT AND I”    where someone asking directions  “which way to millinauket?”  gets the answer “you can’t get there from here” .

So if this is late... it is because I  got sidetracked  listening  to  “bert and I”  and other stories from down east.. It is the source of another quote I often use as very descriptive  “ like green corn goes through the new maid “

when he describes how the “Bangor packet smuck the Bluebird midships and drove on through her like green corn goes through the new maid “..    I highly recommend LISTENING TO THAT .

ALTHO GOOGLING STORY TELLING WILL GET YOU A LONG LIST , THERE ARE A FEW I KNOW ABOUT  WHO REALLY HAVE THE ART DOWN PAT—AND AS SOON AS I REMEMBER THEIR NAMES, I WILL LET YOU KNOW// IN THE MEANTIME.. SOMETIME TODAY  LISTEN TO”   BERT AND I”

BEWARE OF THE IDES OF MARCH--WELL TODAY 'S  TV OPENeD WITH THE IDES OF APRIL...I.E .  INCOME TAX DAY.  AND THEY WERE CAREFULLY TELLING  YOU  YOU COULD SEND IN FOR A 6 MONTH EXTENSION TIL OCT..  WHAT THEY DID NOT TELL YOU..  WHICH IS WHY I BRING IT UP....... YOU DO NOT GET AN EXTENSION TO PAY THE MONEY.. SO TH E ONLY SAFE THG TO DO IS TO pay  MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL OWE... BECAUSE IF YOU UNDERPAY. BY $1.00  YOU ARE ELEDGEABEL  FOR FINES  LIKE  $397.65   CALCULATED WORSE THAN CREDIT CARDS.
JUST A HEADS UP.... WITH EXPERIENCE, COMES BAD EXPERIENCE.

2021 2 15

MONEY AND CREDIT CARDS...AND HISTORY...1945  MY FATHER WAS IN THE HEAVY EQUIPMENT BUSINESS FARM TRACTORS. CONSTRUCTION HOLE DIGGERS ... BIG.... HEAVY...And one of the construction companies in Newburgh NY had a bad accident where a man trying to load an excavator on to a low bed trailer was using big wooden blocks that haD   creosoted railroad tiES Type things .----they would run the tractor up onto  the trailer and immediately turn it quickly . well he didn't turn it quickly enough and was killed as the whole thing toppled over . so my father got to thinking about it and designed a trailer where there were four right angle wedges on the back of the trailer which you rotated down and made a perfectly good safe ramp ... I have the original patent for that trailer and a picture on my wall which sometimes is shown with the camera as it swings towared the kitchen .. the cars of the background where 1940s .. If I had a penny for every trailer  like that  I see today that's used behind the dump trucks to carry the backhoes we would not need to have the chicken bricks .. however another trailer company change d the hinge and broke the patent so my father didn't get much at all out of that deal ..

he had a wonderful time building it and since he then owned the safe trailer he figured he was well ahead  of the game .  father did not have a fancy degree in economics so he basically just avoided banks as much as he could ..and often told the story of the Amish men who came into his shop to buy a piece of equipment and  had a suitcase full of dollar bills .. He would have no part of the current banking system .

------another detail of his aversion to banks—particularly banks in newburgh....  every Friday  from the minute I could drive, I had a chore of driving to the chester, Marlborough  or  Washingtonville banks to pick up a brown paper bag of  cash to pay the workers in my fathers shop.

I have Luckily inherited some of his distrust of banks .  and have often said so on this daily doggy .. about the student loan which means the student will then spend the next 15 years working to pay off the bank .. having purchased a questionable education .  I can hear him say..”  don’t use credit ...you don't want to work for the bank .”

leaping forward .. to my starting service dog project , that concept  of being indebted to the bank.. was high on my list .. which is why when I finally started hiring people I would hire only people who were young  AND living at home .. or people who were retired and  HAD  probably paid off their mortgage ...

The whole credit business does creep up on you though -----as these young high school graduates had a  SDP decent job they  signed a lease somewhere, ,... went and bought a car on time and then had to make car payments .. all that was considered very normal .. except you get too many of this and then ---me---- as the employer began to worry about whether I could make the payroll so they could make their car payments ..  and it can get out of hand .   To this day I much prefer employees who don't have that debt which in fact gets  mentally transferred to me.

I don't bring up this topic by way of insinuating there's an impending disaster ..  we are in very good shape .. and have a backlog in savings thanks too the chicken *********** .. and charlies veteran's day  matching bonanza ...  Back in the 1940s my father   Had an expression     “it's as secure as a paycheck from Sears Roebuck “  ....   THIS  Morning when I got the idea for this daily doggy I tried to come up with a secure national company..  AND I could not quickly come up with a company which would be considered tremendously stable in today's economy ..to be able to say a paycheck from them would be assured .. he prominance of  Sears Roebuck  is long gone..    followed by MACY’S  and upset by General Motors and Boeing aircraft  firings  .. If all .. these companies   have   “payroll policies of a yearly review and a pay increase on a yearly basis “  that is a luxury  offered by maybe a gov’t job....   -- ALTHO THEY aren’t looking great either.   We are hanging in there...  but a lot of the amish sayings are perfect.    Think save....

our employees get this speech on a yearly basis.... like the start of this cov..  right  now we are doing fine... thanks to all our CP’s   but the entire economy is like having one foot firmly planted in midair.

I don’t like the heavy burden of interest ratees on credit cards on my shoulders.    So let me be the first to suggest that  you not spend anything you don’t have to spend...forget the credit card... and go the old fashion way of . a .. saving account......... because if you think it can not get worse... it certainly can.

If you think running  out of toilet paper  is a problem....  , how about the atm/ bank  running out of cash???

feb 14 2021

big excitement of the day... i plan to go upstairs- i don't think i have been there in 5 years....it should be ok...like riding a bicycle... i should be able to manage ther narrow sopiral stairs...-

i put in those narrow metal stairs for a lot of reasons.. -- normal stairs take up too much of a house with narrow wedges of places you can't use for much... and  it did provide a dog free zone  ( wanda the jack russell can manage them .. but no danes..). nicely carpeted... the metal treads shake off  88% of the generic dirt on ones shoes... so generally the upstgairs is clean.,, or was..  to be determined...
it did make getting a washer dryer up there exciting-- by sliding  them up a 30 foot aluminum ladder  which stuck ouit ht e front door...-- then just as erxciting to get them down when i realized i needed the washer dryer where the dirty close landed nightly.... in my room ( area) .

the  upstairs has/had  2 small bedrooms and a loft area. janine's room was expanded by putting  her bed?matreass on a piece of pl;ywood hanging  on chains off the cathedreqal cieling. so she couodl have a desk underneath.  the other oddity is the  5'x8' "closet... with counterr and sink....  this was from my animal advertising business -- back inthe days when you had to develope film-- this was the "darkroom" ----   we didn't do much of that , but it made that part of the house deductable,

being in  "the film industry" is one reason this place  has  soooooo many  strange things...

2021 2 14

It started out very slowly by me bringing home odd things from some movie or photo shoot .. the one thing that comes to mind is the barrel that somebody wore in the commercial that had straps over the shoulder .. they used it for the photo shoot and were going to throw it out so I bought it home .. and we did use it in one Mail call with Sheila a very funny episode .. but there were invariably stuff that they use but they don't use again and don’t have a place to store it .. that's how it started -----then I realized that I could buy almost anything and if we used it even as background in any commercial photo it was a business expense ..totally legal ..  I think---- and do keep in mind I'm no accountant or tax expert .. ----- but when you're in business if you buy things even intending to use them for your business they are deductible .n  cars... trucks... trailers.. animal containeers.. and animals themse.lves....   . That almost pertains to your children if you stretch it .. in my case both my girls we're totally capable of doing some of these commercials .. so when they did I could pay them very well. I better get off this topic . but I think it is all legal ..  they have to be able to do whatever you're paying them for and in my case they both were very capable ..

which is why Janine ended up wandering around football fields with a shampooed cow which eventually morphed into the chicken ship program .And I ended up with a dark room in the second floor of our house .

 moving on....

one reason I want to go upstairs is it's warm up there ... it's exercise .. and I'm desperate for exercise .. plus someone has told me ---there an awful lot of shirts upstairs .purple shirts that says staff  on them ..  I also know that the 450 rolls of paper towels that the motorcycle people gave us got thrown up to that area .. so I just think it might be interesting to see what on earth is up there .. ,

used to be   before the COV  that camera people from across the country we're welcome to come here for two or three nights at a time N live upstairs .... while volunteering to help with the chores ..,   I was careful too note that this is not a spa you don't come here to relax and do nothing but you are welcome to come and help and some people thought that was wonderful and it was .   My 7:00 AM rule was in effect .

that was a rule that came from when my children were of college age and the guest house was sort of a gathering place for parties .. which was fine but I had a rule that if I'm up working at 7:00 AM ----which I always AM--- the rest of the farm is up at that point too .. which resulted   it is several college age bodies leaning against trees at 7:00 AM trying to sober up ..

it's really funny now to see how totally respectable those kids have become at the age of 50 .some of them read this thing and I can  just see them cringing for fear I mentioned any names ----which I won't do ---..sorry

It wasn't just the guest house either .. remember I had a caboose down where  a T tent is now ..  there's a lot of funny stories about that place too.-

Hello Carlene and SDP Family,

Just a check in down in Tennessee.
My beautiful Lady Ripple continues to amaze us each day!
She has been my life with giving independent’s, quality of life, we have not been separated since our match one year ago!
I’ve had surgeries, illnesses requiring several hospital stays, and a few ER trips which everyone knows our girl and they remember her name, the hospitals have been so good to never challenge her staying with me on my bed everywhere!
Everyone loves her so much and say’s, you can tell she’s a true Service Dog due to her manners and training. She is so good to so much change and rides with me on my bed where ever they take us.
They allow Johnny to stay with us so he takes her out for her needs.
Johnny say’s he’s gonna get a Tee Shirt that say’s,” I’m Lady Ripple 's Dad".
She was so extremely timid when she chose me to now she goes with each day being a new day!
She has had to wait with Johnny in the waiting room a few times during surgeries and he says she's looking around and making a whiny sound of where is my mama?
As soon as they let her join me, he says she pulls him too exactly where I am not knowing where , she knows and when she sees me she prances so happy beside my bed as if she were walking with me until we get the room and immediately she climbs right on the bed with me again!
One doctor does a procedure in his office which Lady Ripple lays her head on his hand as to say what are you doing?
The doctor stops and explains to her what it is and what he's doing.
She then raises her head as to say ok but be careful😂
I can't explain the joy she gives us and she is my Best Friend she and I talk all the time and she looks straight into my face and eyes with such love and understanding.
She was such a Blessing you everyone who saw her at Christmas where we had to go to the doctor everyday which is in the hospital for my antibiotic shots where she was all in her red, with Elf Stockings and Reindeer Ears.
We looked at everyone we passed saying "Merry Christmas" and so many sad faces immediately brightened up with a smile and told us the same and many told us how she made their Christmas!
I will be so glad when we can do as I planned to visit schools and nursing facilities to visit and share my Angel with out her Wings as I know God has for her when she joins him but I pray many, many years from now!
I don't know how I could ever do without my girl!!!!

God Bless Everyone at SDP for giving me the best gift anyone could ever receive

THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER-- I DID HEAR THAT .. WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU IS THAT 80 YEARS LATER YOUR WORLD BECOMES A PIN HEAD AND

THE OTHER 47 PEOPLE ON  THE HEAD OF THIS PIN ARE NOT ANGELS !!  YOUR  EXPECTATIONS  WILL BE CONSIDERABLY REDUCED TO BEING THRILLED
TO BE ABLE TO WALK 20 FEET TO THE BATHROOM.
\
I DID GET SHOT 1... I WAS EXTREMELUY IMPRESSED WITH HOW WELL IT WAS ORGANIZED...  SOME EVENT PLANNER DID A FINE JOB.

2021 2 13

It sounds so simple one shot in one arm well let's figure how it got there if I could even attempt it .. first of all the needle was an extremely fine gauge in that I didn't even feel it entering my skin .. unlike the needles we have around here where the needle is so big you have to hammer a nail hole before you can stick it in the horse

HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IOT TAKE TO SHOOT ONE ARM????  LET ME COUNT THE WAYS....

---even getting to the hotel where it was given there were 3 policemen outside that said TURN THEIS CORNER  AND  go park and then go in the building 5 minutes ahead of your appointment ------  so we did that ----go into the building WHERE  half the population are in wheelchairs because it's old people's day ----so they had managed to get one guy on each of the two doors to get the wheelchairs through the doors ----  that's two more people---- get in there they had chairs all set up that were wide enough to accommodate all these wheelchairs ....also HAD  somebody telling you which chairs to sit in or next to that's another person and the next guy was the one to tell you which table to go to and the tables were all numbered way up in the air and there must have been 30 of them----    two people at each table with PPE AND a computer ----they checked in your number ..then while one person gave you this shot the other person picked up a little card preprinted with all sorts of information on to which he put your next appointment ----at the time and place ----  having done that the injection person put the needle in a special sharps container which is where you're supposed to put all needles ---   and the other person took the paper that the sharp needle had been in and put that in one of two scrap baskets next to them--- both these people WERE IN complete PPE outfits and a container of vials from which they took your vaccine -----

.you then got A little card telling you when to come back for your second shot AND A  posted note told you to go sit at the other end of the room for 20 minutes the  START AND END times were on your posted note and you couldn't get out of there until you'd stay there till the post it notes said you could go ..at that end the room they had a person monitoring 30 or 40 people to see if anyone fell over----- if they did she had at her feet the great big yellow tote bag with various hoses sticking out of it and a sign that said call 911 ..

so when you posted notes said you could go another person AIMED  you toWAred the door and again there were two people to open the two different doors for all these people still in wheelchairs and you are free to go

somewhere along the line I asked one of the people how they had gotten this job and they said it was advertised on The Internet ..These were only the people I could see .. there was a big truck outside park near the room which I assumed was refrigerated or something it had supplies which were being shuffled into the business part .if you count up all those people and figure even the minimum wage you begin to get some idea of the budget necessary for this nationwide project of putting one shot in somebody's arm

.I also gave away 6 calendars .. and I really should have taken a dog with me... it would have cheered up the whole place ..

Those three policemen at the start have to have been darn cold to stand there all day just telling people to turn a corner and there was a line of cars

..This was a massive operation ----POTENTIAL SCREW UP..... because if you just took away the three policemen bending the cars into a parking lot and telling everybody to stay there the general public would have had a massive traffic jam and possibly given up even trying to get the shot in the first place .. just as if anybody had forgotten to give each pair of people a scrap basket to accommodate all the extra stuff that would have been a mess .. so whoever planned this did a super job .

MASSIVE JOPBS---All go back to for want of a nail the nation was lost.  Where the nail hold the horseshoe on the horses foot which then gets hurt for lack of a nail which then loses the horse which then loses the rider which then loses the boss person then loses the the battle and then loses the nation   ..  all for want of a nail .

so many operations are like that including service dog project .

if this COV   teaches us nothing else it has to teach us how many parts our system are critical then I'm back to my trash collector and the guy putting mushroom soup on the supermarket shelf .. and at one point should any of those people work for the minimum wage

I am happy to say a big cause of chick in **** and  the generosity of the camera crowd all are staff are above minimum wage .. and all absolutely critical  to be able to put one dog with one person walking down the driveway .

EATING GRASSHOPPERS?
Hi CARLENE - I have to say they aren't that bad - the legs of grasshoppers got stuck in my teeth, but if you don't think about what you are eating - it really isn't hat bad.  USDA allows a certain percentage of bug parts in most foods - you are eating them all the time - just don't know it!
And for more  - here are allowable limits in the foods that are processed and eaten every day!

NOW THAT YOU KNOW  - JUST DON"T THINK ABOUT IT WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR NEXT BITE!

Dear Carlene,

Seagram continues to be happy and helpful, my support during these crazy Covid times — both literally keeping me up, as well as a best friend and constant companion. She makes me smile when she gleefully runs zoomies in the snow and brings such joy to “our little family,” as my husband and I call it. We are so grateful for her!
(By the way, we are also quite grateful that her doggy mommy, Scarlet, is back home with her family.)

Life continues to remain relatively quiet for us. We were able to do several walks to the beach during the “warm” winter days that are such a gift, but at the moment I am sidelined because of a foot injury. At least she still gets plenty of exercise & entertainment since my husband plays with her outside essentially every day. (It is interesting — the only time she barks is when they are playing. I think she is teasing him, saying something such as, “Play more like a dog!” and “I’m faster than you — catch me if you can!”)

While I think Seagram misses working more often, I’m sure she does not miss our trips to New York City. Having grown up on the Farm, she is still a country girl at heart! Few things please her more than rolling in the grass or running zoomies in her yard, especially now that we have had a series of snowfalls.

I have found other ways to keep her engaged...I have been doing physical therapy via Zoom. Several weeks in, my physical therapist had me grab onto something for stability as she instructed me to stand on one foot — she suggested that I hold onto my husband’s stationary bike. Seagram seemed very concerned, especially since my leg shook a little while doing this. She came up to me several times and put her nose under my hand, pushing up, as is to say, “Let me help you with this.”

So then I asked if we could incorporate Seagram into PT, and she has since been helping me with multiple aspects of PT. My physical therapist adores her, and appreciates how much she helps me, one day calling Seagram “the best dog ever!” which is quite a compliment, since she has a dog of her own ;)

She also noted how attentive Seagram is, and the way she constantly watches me. Pre-pandemic, when I did certain things, like the single-leg stance, the physical therapist was standing right next to me, spotting, in case she had to catch me. Of course with Zoom PT that is not possible. This time around, she was nervous about having me do various exercises. Shortly into our weekly visits, she said, “I’m so glad that Seagram is there since I cannot be there. It makes me feel better.”

So we are doing well! Hope you and all those at the Farm are also well!
Amy & Seagram

hello!
Just an update on Connor and Gretl.

With Covid and Connor school only being in  person every other week for half days, it has been hard for Gretl and Connor to practice together in school.
Due to a trip to Boston Children’s Hospital Connor had to miss even more in person days. While she gets practice during trips to the store, it just isn’t the same.
That’s why today was so amazing. Connor and Gretl visited the school where I work which is in session every day. Gretl handled the visit like a champ, and both teachers and students were running to the doorways to admire Gretl. Through it all Gretl remained totally focused on Connor and her behavior was close to flawless. She expertly ignored all the attention, made sure that she did her job, and didn’t let the fawning go to her head (Some stars should take a page from Gretl’s playbook!).
Also of note, every single teacher and teen understood Gretl was working and no one tried to pet her without permission.

They are still learning together and it isn’t always easy, but Gretl and Connor should be just fine when they go to high school next year!

running barefoot over the topics about which i don't dare put in this dd...... there will now be a pregnant pause.....well....

betsy reports so far so good with scarlott.. but that is an extremely tenuous situation....
reese has gone home.. slightly  dripping( not much, but dripping) a not red, but not brown either..
and thanks to chicken shlt   we are not over drawn   our bills are again paid.  woowoowoowoo
---
has anyone out there realized the stress of trying to run a business on  shlt?  try sitting in front of a bunch of business minded people and  tell them .. your main 5 year plan is to pray chickens keep shitgting..  accountants are even worse... how do you put chickens in a balance sheet to  give to a bank so you can apply for anohter gove grant?  one of my main functions art sdp is to try and convince   "normal"  business people that  somehow all  this is working. yesterday we had another dog go happily down the driveway..
it took best part of 2 years from  "being fit  to be tied" ( that  expression has to come from breeding dogs) -- to being tied**--. to the  whelp[ing, feeding   and the picking of the poo...
and finally  to training  before  we can even rummage thru the paperwork to see which person might fit that dog;.
there is no day off---- or paid vacation--- when you have animals it does not matter if  it is freezing outside, you have a temp of 103, or your sister is getting married.  at one point it did not worry me one bit, because i knew i could stagger around and get the basics for life done before going back to bed.  i now am terrified.. i cannot begin to take care of the animals we have here...all i can  do is  figure out how to earn money to pay people , plow the driveway then pray they all show up[...and they do... thank heavens...
and it is all working...
----
speaking of  the picking of the  poo..... at mail call last night we got a very excigting new product..namely the normal looking grocery bag  ... a "T" bag.. that was supposed to disintergrate in 202 days  as opposed to  30 years of the normal plastic bag. welll now....... as soon as we can dig the soil ... AND PLANT THE PEAS..... WE SHOuLD PUT 4 OF THESE IN A ROW AND DATE THEM  JUST TO CHECK ON THE VALIDITY OF THERI CLAIM.
I HOPE SOMEONE REMINDS ME TO DO THAT..  MY MEMORY BEING WHAT IT IS... OR ISNT..
----
I AM ORGAINZED TO THE POINT OF WRITING THINGS DOWN---- LIKE WHO GAVE ME THAT WONDERFUL BED RAIL TOKEEP THE
MATTRESS ON THE BED... AND THEN I FORGET WHERE WROTE IT DOWN.
LIKEWISE  THESE GREEN DISOLVING "PLASTIC BAGS"    THEY MAY SAVE THE OCEANS SO WE DON'T HAVE TO BUY ANY MORE PLASTIC BRACELETS.
I WISH I KNEW WHO TO THANK.. AS IN WHERE TO FIND MORE.....???

NOW TO CONTINUE THE DISCUSSION ON KN 95  VS N 95  HERE ARE SOPME EXPERT COMMENTS

I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU. I THOUGHT I WOULD SEND YOU MY RESPONSE TO A CP WHO REFERENCED THE DD AND DOUBLE MASKING. THE PERSON THINKS IT IS RIDICULOUS. SO I HAD TO REPLY. THIS MIGHT HELP IF ANYONE QUESTIONS YOU.

Not ridiculous. With the new variants being more infectious CDC has recommended wearing a surgical type mask underneath your cloth mask to add an extra layer of protection. It is also recommended that at least one of the masks have the metal piece that allows for pinching it closer to your nose to make a better seal. It is not recommended to use 2 cloth masks. Mostly because 2 will make it harder to breathe for most people. It is also recommended that if you have extra length on the ear piece to tie a knot, in your cloth one, so as to keep the mask closed up more along the side edges.

Good morning Carlene-

There are several differences between the N95 and KN95 mask. Primary is that the N95 is certified to US standards and the KN95 is certified to Chinese standards. All the KN95s have the "not for medical use" disclaimer on them, but they do have official US emergency use authorization to be used in the US for medical use during the PPE shortage crisis. There is a list at the FDA of which manufacturers have the authorization and which do not.

The other major difference is the N95 needs to be fit tested to be as effective as it can be. Long procedure, but basically they test if you can taste sprayed saccharine while wearing it. If yes, you fail. If no, you pass. KN95 is not designed to be fit tested, but does fit closely enough to the face that the extraneous air should not make it through the sides.

There is still an actual shortage of N95 masks in the US. So, in actual practice both at my nursing home job and my hospice job, when in contact with actual covid + or precautions due to potential exposure, we wear an N95 mask covered with a surgical mask as a spit guard to keep it cleaner so it can be reused. We also wear the full PPE suit, but that's a different discussion.

In non-covid + and low risk of exposure cases we wear a KN95 mask, again covered with a surgical mask as a spit guard. We do also wear a face shield over all in all scenarios, but we are more at risk of being coughed & sneezed on.

I have not done enough research yet on double masking for the general public yet to weigh in. But the KN95s do offer an added layer of protection and will last longer if covered with a surgical mask.

FEB 11 2021

to mask or not to mask? THAT IS THE EASY QUESTION...... NOW  ... TO MASK MASK OR NOT TO MASK MASK IS THE LATEST..   BEING THE NEGATIVE CONSUMER THAT I HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE.... IF THAT IS PROMOTED BY THE SELLERS OF MASKS, I WOULD BE LESS INCLINED TO  CONSIDER IT.... HOWEVER   IF THIS IS TRUELY FROM THE CDC.. THEN WE SHOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT DOUBLE MASKING.

CDC confirms that double-masking significantly helps prevent the spread of COVID-19
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new report on Wednesday confirming what many experts had already suggested: wearing two masks prevents the spread of COVID-19 more than wearing just one mask. The CDC also reports that a tight mask fit is important and significantly protects the wearer from contracting COVID-19.
MY OWN OBSERVATIONS  WOULD HARDLY COMPARE TOTHE CDC.... HOWEVER... THE KN95---( NOTE THE "K"  WHICH IS ANOTHER DISCUSSION)  IBOUGHT A BOX BEFORE I KNEW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "K's"
2021 2 11

With that K-95 mask on I do notice that running up the stairs(  or crawling up the stairs in my case) does require me to make more of an effort to breathe through that mask then the usual sort of unfolding ones ..  so I do think that  the K in 95 mask does force you to breathe through the material .. where the unfolding ones have a gap around the edge which causes your breath the fog your glasses I don't get the feeling that that's filtering much of anything so I really consider the unfolding ones just sort of splatter control .. Having done a lot of reading comparing the KN-95 to the N 95 --And keeping in mind that I don't read well -- is  the label of the  KN -95 Clearly says way down at the bottom in Chinese that this

KN 95   is not for medical use ..  The problem is when you Google N 95   the search gives you all the KN 95 also .and the descriptions get even worse as to who has what certification .. however Home Depot website says it does carry these N 95 masks ..

I found that out after I'd ordered a bunch of  kn95’s   To share with staff here --so I'm happy with the CDC saying go ahead and wear both folding and KN 95 .

Point being there's an awful lot of people who don't know an awful lot about the COV anyway .. when in doubt use   both.I will put the box of these down next to the time Clock and everybody should take 1 or two .

NOW in  the “you won’t believe it “ department....... and   speaking of long winded

Duplication ---I also apply THAT  to the news media as several of you people have noticed.. I forget to turn the television off in my Rome when I go out for Mail call apparently people can tell which channel I've been listening to ..  and believe it or not I now have gotten long winded lectures     complaints about listening to one or the other ..

Now the fact that I don't read well ---   make that I don't wanna read well --  comes into play when people write these long winded  emails wishing I would watch one channel or another .. rest assured I watched both CNN and Fox .. but I much prefer doctor Pol.

what I have notice from both those channels is that they are running more and more of that horrible “please adopt American children” or whatever it is that runs just before there is some kind of flashing  one second --commercial advertising some vitamin project or another or car parts or Kitty litter Using subliminal techniques .  I have not seen any of that on doctor Pol..

That is not to say that advertising on doctor Paul cannot be controversial ..  I did see a strange harness strap whatever that they had tried on one of his great Danes that had a torn ACL (?knee?) and it apparently fixed it because for a while you saw the dog with it on and now you see it with it off .....with no apparent surgery between the two---- I say apparent because television is television ..  to cut or not to cut...????   ----I dunno... jury ia out on that one. I know my knees got better ... one with surg ands one without.

Attached is a video I took of Bunny when she was in the house. I noticed she was shivering when she inhaled. I covered her with a blanket in case she was cold, but she still shivered, so I don’t think it’s temperature related.
The CPs are going to ask about it at Mail call today.

Hi there Carlene.  I’ve been meaning to write again.  Here goes.  I just wanted to let you know one of the many big differences Bumble makes for me.  He and I were matched a year ago today. At that time I was only confident living in a tiny home where I always had a piece of furniture or a wall to balance on when I want. To be him four months after were matched we invested in a home substantially larger than our other one so Bumble and our other dogs could play.  My wife recently pointed out to me that I now have bumble brace me to get up and can let go and make my way to a different room. I can do it sometimes even without him bracing me and guiding me there. Having him in my life means I’ve regained not only the strength to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night but also I’ve regained the confidence to at very least try. I still need him all the time when venturing out but at least I’m safe here at home.  The other day it occurred to me that none of this would’ve happened without him. He’s made the difference between just being alive and living.  I hope that makes sense to you? Though I know my eventual fate is a wheelchair I find amazing peace in knowing that at least for now I have freedom and independence because of my partner Bumble. I can’t think SDP enough for what you do.

Hi Carlene,

I just read your discussion about Bernedoodles as possible mobility service dog and thought you might want to hear from someone who owns a Bernedoodle (Marnie’s Bernedoodle, Hamilton, turned 1 in November).  The Bernedoodle mix might be good for mobility if you can add a little more height by breeding with a Dane.  Marnie’s Doodle is about 5-6 inches shorter than Marnie.  At 16 months old, he weighs 94 pounds.  He is a first generation Doodle, his mom is a Bernese Mountain Dog and dad is a Standard Poodle.  He has long wavy to curly hair.  We were not seeing any shedding until the last month.  I hope he is just blowing puppy coat because we are now finding long, wavy locks of hair on the carpet and furniture.  His coat is also starting to mat—I admit we do not brushing as much as we should but, to point, there is a lot of coat maintenance with a long, curly-coated breed (or high-end mix) like this.  They say that the more Poodle the doodles have, the less shedding they can be expected to do. But, that curly long coat will always need a lot of grooming attention.  That could be a problem for a disabled person who has weakness in the back and arms.

On the plus side, Hamilton is extremely smart and eager to learn.  He is super bonded to my husband but still very loving to me.  He could certainly be taught everything he needs to do as a mobility dog, but I’m not sure he will be big enough even at full-grown and filled out to do the job.  Maybe if someone uses a harness with the hard, stand-up handle that is sturdy enough to hold the handler’s weight.  He is extremely faithful the entire family and he loves both Marnie and his tiny little Sheltie sister who only weighs 17 pounds at 13 years old.  So, there, you have a Doodle owner’s thoughts.  The Bernedoodle could be an excellent service dog in just about any capacity other than mobility—but there is still the coat maintenance problem.

Marnie wants you to know that she is doing well but is tired of this pandemic quarantine.  We are extremely lucky to have the acreage that allows her and her Doodle to run.  She loves the snow but not as much as Doodle loves it.  The two of them love to chase each other and wrestle in the snow.  I’m attaching a couple of photos of Marnie and her Doodle.
