I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAt THE NAME OF THE  FILM PROJECT WAS-- BUT IT WAS A BIGGIE....MAYBE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC???

BELLA AND GEORGE DID SOME FILMING LAST WEEK! A CREW FROM ENGLAND FLEW OUT AND FILMED BELLA AND GEORGE FOR A COUPLE DAYS FOR A SHOW THAT WILL AIR IN JANUARY. WE BROUGHT THEM UP TO SERVICE DOG PROJECT SO THEY COULD MEET CARLENE AND MEGAN. THEY WERE ABLE TO LEARN HOW THE TRAINING GOES ON AND WHAT BELLA USED TO DO WHEN SHE VOLUNTEERED THEIR BEFORE GEORGE. THEN WE CAME HOME AND BELLA RODE HER BIKE AND DID A LITTLE INTERVIEW. THE NEXT DAY WE DID SOM WALKING AT HOME AND JUST SOME FOOTAGE OF HOME BELLA IS LIKE A NORMAL OR TYPICAL 13 YEAR OLD. HOW SHE LIKES TO RELAX AND WATCH TV OR HANG WITH FRIENDS. WE DROVE UP TO THE LAKE HOUSE IN DEERFIELD AND DID SOME FOOTAGE OF SWIMMING AND SITTING BY THE FIRE. THE CREW WAS AWESOME AND SUPER FRIENDLY. BELLA REALLY LIKED THEM! SHE HOPES NEXT TIME THEY WILL FLY HER TO ENGLAND FOR FILMING. SO THINGS HAVE BEEN GOING GREAT HERE! 

THANKS FOR BEING PATIENT AND STICKING BY US EVEN WHEN I SLACK WITH UPDATES.

THEY WERE SUPER NICE GUYS..... JUST 3 GUYS IN A VAN...  BUT THEY HAD SOME CAMERA EQUIPMENT I HAVE NOT SEEN  AROUND BOSTON IN A LONG TIME...  I REMEMBER  LONG AGO  "HIGH OUTPUT" HAD TO FLY A CAMERA FROM CALIFORNIA TO DO SOME SLOW MMOTION WORK  AND THEY HAD TO BUY A SEPARATE SEAT ON THE PLANE FOR IT....   AS A MATTER OF FACT ONLY ONCE BEFORE HAVE I SEEN THE  KIND WHERE YOU CAN RUN ALONGSIDE SOMEONE  AND THE CAMERA KEEPS ITSELF STEADY  UPRIGHT AND FOCUSED.....ON THE SUBJECT-- SORT OF SUPER SEGWAY KIND OF STUFF...

THESE 3 GUYS HAD BOTH KINDS... GRANTED THEY ARE NOW SMALLER THAN THE OLD ONES....... BUT STILL IMPRESSIVE...

PAULA SPENT THE NIGHT INTHE BARN/KENNEL... IT WAS A LITTLE LIKE  THE FIRST NIGHT OF SENDING YOUR KID TO  CAMP..   WHEN SMILLEY WENT DOWN  FOR BED CHECK... SHE WAS INSIDE SLEEPING AND MAYHEM WAS STILL OUTSIDE--- SO SHE BOUGHT MAYHEM UP HERE FOR THE NIGHT--- PENNY SEEMS TO BE DOING VERY WELL DOWN THERE...  PAULA HAS BECOME A BIT ATTACHED TO ME;  I DON'T NEED ONE MORE SHADOW.

"ATTACHED"   .... WE HAD A VERY FUNNY EPISODE YESTERDAY WHEN JERI AND STEVE#4 ARRIVED FROM OHIO WITH  AUDREY AND ONE OF HER FULL GROWN MERLE PUPS... BEAUTIFUL DOG....  VERY ATTACHED TO MOMMA-- WHO IS VERY WHITE WITH A FEW SPOTS-- AS TEHY CAME TO THE BARN AREA THE PUP RAN UP TO Ariot WHO IS ALSO WHITE WITH VERY FEW SPOTS....-- thinking it was momma-- and absolutely came apart screaming and running in great panic- not knowing where to go -- or what happened to her momma...  that one looked like momma ... but sure was not her !!!-  she is not over that yet, aND WILL NOT GO UP TO ARIOT-- TEH EXPRESSION "LIKE SHE SAW A GHOST"  APPLIES HERE.   IF WE WERE NOT FENCED IN SHE WOULD HAVE RUN FOR MILES.....

A PERFECT  DEMO OF A CHILD  CONFUSED  WITHOUT  A  MOMMY.  

FOR TEH MOMMY WHO CAN NOT FIND HER CHILD, THERE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE ON DR. POL WHERE ONE OF HIS FREISIAN HORSES HAD A COLT  WHO DIED- WITH SOME BLOOD DISCRASIA-  THEY TOOK TH EFOAL AWAY FOR AUTOPSY.. AND THAT MARE RAN THE FENCES FOR 24 HOURS SCREAMING/ CALLING FOR HER CHILD.

BUD AND TANNER GOT THE LEXAN 4 X 8 SHEET CUT TO THE PATTERN OF THE NEW DOOR-- AND GOT IT ON THE TRACTOR... AT THE MOMENT  WITHOUT THE  DOOR HANDLE... WHICH CAN BE IMPROVISED WITH A PIECE OF DUGT TPAE OR STRING....-- BUT IT IS AIRCONDITIONED  CAPABLE NOW..

I just saw Doggie Daily and 遠山美樹is my name in Chinese characters. Its To(遠)yama(山)Mi(美)Ki(樹)I have no idea if you can see the typed Chinese characters. For easy translation for each Chinese characters it means far mountain beautiful tree.(which doesn’t make any sense.)  English is becoming more famous and spoken so its becoming more easy to contact foreign people. Well I have no idea about Chinese though… But in my mind I think only watching no sounds or even has sounds dogs or donkeys puts smile on the peoples face and makes them happy.  I really didn’t know if I can wright you about these Chinese Characters mail because it has nothing to do with dogs but I guess I was wrong. I was very moved to see how you wanted to know more.

SPITTING IN A BOTTLE IS A DIFFERENT WAY TO START THE DAY----  THIS TIME IT WAS FOR THE DNA- ANCESTRY GAME....

BUT NOW THAT I THINK  ABOUT IT... I HAVE SPENT ALOT OF MY  FORMATIVE YEARS SPITTING IN A BOTTLE... I AM FROM NEWBURGH NEW YORK-- IT WAS MATCHED WITH KINGSTON NEW YORK FOR 2 CITIES VERY MUCH ALIKE-- NEWBURGH  GOT THE FLUORINE IN THE  DRINKING WATER,---KINGSTON DID NOT, AS THE SCIENTIFIC CONTROL...  SO FROM THIRD GRADE TO SITH GRADE, MAYBE WEEKLY--- OR EVERY SIX MONTHS... WHATEVER... WE WERE  ALL GIVEN LITTLE BOTTLES WHICH WE HAD TO FILL WITH SPIT. I DON'T REMEMBER EVER HAVING TO UNDERGO DENTAL EXAM OR TURNING IN ANY DENTAL RECORDS, BUT THEY DECIDED THE FLUORINE  REDUCED THE NUMBER OF CAVITIES IN CHILDREN.... SOMETHING  ABOUT CALCIUM DEPOSITS ON MY TEETH---- AS I GOT OLDEER I WONDERED ABOUT CALCIUM DEPOSITS IN MY JOINTS AND ARTHRITIS..  BUT  THAT WAS NOT PART OF TEH STUDY--  ( AND I AM NOT DOING TOO BADLY).

AS FOR TEH ANCESTRY BIT--- I HAVE NEVER BEEN ONE TO  WORRY ABOUT EH PAST  TOO MUCH.. TEH ONLY PIECES I REMEMBER OF ANCESTERS IS  SOMEONE ON MY FATHER'S SIDE GOT HUNG FOR BEING A HORSE THIEF-- AND ANOTHER WAS IN THE JOHNSTOWN FLOOD...  ON MOTHERS SIDE I HEARD ABOUT  CIVIL ENGINEERING IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY  N.Y.    WHHICH IS WHY I HAVE THAT SURVEYING CHAIN DRAPPED AROUND THE CEILING OVER MY HEAD AS I TYPE..

THE DNA TEST IS ALL THE FAult of earlene and paul-- they were here the other day... paul had fun researchign  geneology in the  records of teh ?mormans? at some library in new hampshire... he offered to look up my relatives- if i had teh  dna test..

last night's mail call....   was  different...  in an effort to have some variety steve #2 and i decided to  "broadcast" from teh "deagle dog house"    which after he put together an extension cable for teh camers, we managed to do...  problem was-- as we sat- stuffed in the ( shortened door) -- we could not  make teh sound work-- while he tried input and output and db's and gains, i took the camera and showed everyone his ear, bald head, scars on his knee..  i mean... the show had to go on....

SHORT DOGGIE... I MUST........

........ get the letter off to dubai cares today..  there ae sooooo many detAILS.. IT IS A CONSTANT LEARNING  PROCESS....DUBAI CARES  -- BOARD MEMBER-- WHICH GOOGLES AS REAL.... SAYS TEHY FOUND US THRU  THE   Charity Navigator.  

I HAVE NO IDEA... EXCEPT  DUBAI  HAS THE POTENTIAL TO  BE A LARGE ADDITION... 

I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS SUCH A THING AS CHARITY NAVAGATOR....... SO I WENT TO LOOK-- AND FOUND-- THAT WE ARE NOT IN THERI LISTING BECAUSE WE ARE NOT IN THE ONE MILLION CATAGORY...  SO I TRIED TO FIND WHERE WE ARE LISTED-- AND WHAT IT SAID...  THAT TOOK A WHILE  26 0058467  IS OUR EIN NUMBER AND ASIDE FROM SAYING BLIND/SERVICE  ALL SEEMS ACCURATE...

AND WE NEED TO GET THAT  990 DONE  FOR 2017.   

THERE AQRE SOOOO MANY WAYS TO CHECK UP ON A CHARITY, I LIVE IN FEAR OF BAD INFO OUT THERE THAT WE  DON'T KNOW ABOUT..  GUIDE STAR IS ANOTHER BIG ONE....

sometimes it takes a question from a CP for me to really think thru some of teh off beat things i say or do....

today-- how come you give treats for the basket deal yet say don't give treats...    good point...

this go get the basket thing  AND GET A treat is-----  here is a finished  job for which you get a paycheck-- once given the treat --- go away and play.... and think of what a nice treat... because that is what your mind will  be on...--  another time we give a treat is -- go back in the kennel, turn around and open your mouth for treat...-- same thing--  go relax.... you are all done for the moment.

that is entirely different than the trainer who carries a treat bag on their hip so teh dog will pay attention to them.. i have even heard/seen people say   "hold teh treat in front of your face so tehe dog will look at you"....

 we have already  accomplished all that with the  spoon feeding in a group.. personally... i think the dog's logic goes somethin like this 

 in teh spoon feeding episopde....

she has food- i better investigate

if i go  over there by her  maybe she will call my name

whenever i hear my name i know something is supposed to happen... so i better get ready... 

if she calls my name i might get a treat--- unless she says "wait"  

if she says wait... then i must hold very still and hope...

jumping in front of my brothers and sisters does not help

i must not put my feet on her lap or she will holler "off" and swing  her arm in  my direction..

i must pay attention...

i seem to do better if i  am not moving much... 

by 7 or 8 weeks  that should be teh normal----

now about" get in the kennel..."

ok i just had my dinner....

 i just have to check to see if any got spilled- 

ahhhhhh there is may name  being called....

she is holding the gate to my kennel  open  for me to run in... -

 let me run and get in front of her  " in feeding position" 

 she has been trained to  put a treat in my mouth.

this easily becomes 

she has the car door open-  that usually  means jump in. and turn around like i do in the kennel  - so i do that  and we go somewhere... ( no treat there) eventualy we get home and she does the kennel door thing and i get a treat then.

it is my belief once you start the treat bit-- their mind is washed out and they can only think of treats...,.so it becomes a long way back to trying to concentrate on the job at hand.

this is where  i personally have trouble with  the typical clicker training..  where they click and treat for progress toward a goal....  it is not the clicker.... i can make that noise with my mouth-- same effect-- but i just praise the dog  for a  partial "job"  and treat at the very end.

i have seen some amazing "tricks"  done with clicker training ( even if you don't have a metal clicker)- that success depends totally on th eskill of teh guy withthe clicker... and their split second timing...  which most people don't have. -- i know i don't.. any time i needed to use the split secont timeing the clicker would be in the pocket of my jeans and in the washing machine.

our training is slightly more subtle...  when that vest/harness goes on...  pay attention.. stuff will happen.

so teh vest becomes teh on /off switch  to relax time. as the pup works into a job at about 6 months, the whole thing is a perfectly normal process.... and they love it !!

once our trainers get to the  nitty gritty of service dog training -- out in public... they have to get to the point of achieving boredom --- because you can not teach a dog a thing if his mind is on  the squirrel which just ran up that tree... or the meat counter in the market--- or a kid screaming in the ladies underwear department. so "leave it"  is maybe teh next critical  "command" they learn.. once tehre, then they get into  "my partner's feet are moving only aBOUT 4 INCHES AT A TIME..."    AT THIS POINT YOU ARE NEARLY   READY TO GO !!

IF OUR TRAINERS CARRIED A BAG OF TREATS, IT WOULD TAKE A YEAR LONGER FOR THE DOG  TO ACHIEVE  THE BOREDOM NECESSry for real learning...

this is how  george-- our  AKC #1 service dog was trained--  and it is why he went home  with bella before he was a year old.... which is about 8 months before most service dog outfits  get their dogs back from puppy raisers to start thier  "formal training" --  if george had not won that perfect dog award, probably no one would listen to these strange ideas...   but now ???

even that photo crew yesterday said this place was not like anything else they had seen in the past year of trAVELEING AROUND DOG ESTABLISHMENTS,  THEY USED WORDS LIKE   RELAXED, HAPPY  , OFF LEASH AND WELL BEHAVED-- AT ALL AGES,.

I LIKED THAT....

AND --- YESTERDAy's visit with THE TOWN MANAGER---- HAD TO ADMIT WE WERE DOING AMAZING THINGS AND ADDRESSING  THINGS THAT COULD BE ADDRESSED....  HE SAID  SOMEONE WAS EMIALING HIM ABOUT NOISE BETWEEN 4 AND 7 AM...  

 THAT PROBLEM IS   I USUALY GET UP ABOUT 4AM --- AND STAFF ARRIVES ABOUT 6:45AM... IT IS A FARM.... YOU GOTTA START EARLY-- SO HE IS GOING TO SEE WHAT HE CAN DO--

 today??    11:00 AM------dr BRYAN FOR A ONCE OVER THE DONKEY'S AND THEIR FEET-- HE IS TH ONLY ONE I KNOW OF WITH THE  BRAWN  AND TALANT TO DEAL WIHT OUT OF CONTROL DONKEY FEET...  IF HE CAN GET EHEM STRAIGTHENED OUT , THEN THE UYSUAL BALCKSMITH -- AND PETER CAN KEEP US GOING... -- THERE IS ONE BACK FOOT ON SOMEONE THAT IS TERRIBLE... AND USUALY HIDDEN IN THE SHAVINGS AND HAY.

i need to be smilimg and cheerful  by 8am  and  wide awake and organized by 10... or wqs it 10:30??    both may be a struggle - at least until the coffee hits bottom.  i would bett a small piece of white chocolate that the 8:00  will be on time or a little early-- they are a british film crew here to see where george came from and meet his parents-- actually they will film me to be polite, but it is bentley and scarlotte that will get   major booking... british are... from my experience generally punctual - i seem to remember a discussion with  "nother gwen" a digmate in edinburgh  of  late is  insulting the person  you are meeting-- it came from seeing some a friend in a coffee shop who was "waiting for a friend and didn't want to keep her waiting" -- with "nother gwen"  the smallest of incidents might spark days of discussion... and often did.  she was the one i went round germany with, armed with a zip code list of dane kennels.  there was somethgn abotu  trying to figure out trains by consulting the abphart  ( ?sp?   is how it sounded..) . it was the departing train schedule...

neither of us spoke german- we spent days wondering what the german  to english reason was for  abphart meaning something was leaving somewhere...

the 10- 10_:30 is... the nice new ipswich town manager... he thought  it would be good to come meet us and see what we were about...  translated... the developement is complaining about noise  again....  the last town manager had no concern for the "only a woman"  remark... times have changed.....  i will smile... but my teeth have been sharpened.-  i have pulled the  notes from the last  "town meeting" where 

   1--- i am a farm

   2--- farms are allowed to be  smelly, noisy,sexy and slow moving ( how does that go  with  the first rule?)

   3--- there is no limit to the number of dogs a kennel might have as long as they belong to  one person.

that last one came about because ipswich is 1/2 way between 2 dpg tracks  wonderland and seabrook...  just a wierd thing-- but the rule is still on the books... GOLDIE RULES AGAIN.... i hope... 

he did say "lets see if there is anything  the town can do for you"    which i see as 

"to  appease the develpoement."   . but there are things the town could do for us.  so i have a mental list... well maybe i shoujld put it on paper...

and i must get a few  quick one click to organized photos to try and make him cry.    not only bella on teh stairs  but eve and the lemonaide stand..

eve and finn really get  a gold ring for  that idea... she just  sent another $300+ earnings.. and is have ign a great time doing it...

Good evening Carlene and crew,

I haven't send you an update lately and I thought it be a good thing to do now :)

Charlotte and I are doing fabulously together. Today we took the family to the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus. As always Charlotte was on my arm and kept me upright, always an awesome thing. The place has lots of cool things for the kids to do but I hadn't thought that many of the schools/daycares would send their kids there as a field trip type event. For the most part the kids were pretty good about understanding to not pet or interact with Charlotte. Some adults needed a little encouragement to do the same, but that is the way of things. Got my standard PET scan last week and that was a new experience for Charlotte and I together. She was with me while I had the infusion of the glucose tracer but I had to ask Tori, my wife, to sit in the waiting room with Charlotte as I didn't want her to have radiologic exposure to the PET scan machine itself. The process is about 40 minutes and when I finished I went straight out to a very happy to see me Charlotte. I think that's the most she's been apart from me since we were matched, not cool. I am sure that hospitalizations are not good for the service dogs either and fingers crossed I'll avoid that in the future. 

I'm still awed at the community around Service Dog Project. It is amazing to me that if I have a question or a thought that CPs/staff/recipients come up with a way to make things work. It takes a lot of my worry away from how things will go. Thank you so much Carlene for what you and your staff have done to improve the quality of life in so many. Out of curiosity, have you or the trainers ever had Ohio buckeyes (peanut butter truffle dipped in chocolate)? I may have to put some of those together on a thank you package. Again, thanks much.

I HAD A PHONE  CALL LAST NIGHT..

A WOMAN- GRANDMOTHER TYPE- HAS   GRANDCHILD  WITH SOME LONG NAMED PROBLEM-  8 YEARS OLD--STORY WENT ON  WITH WORDS LIKE REHAB,  SAINT JUDE , MANY MONTHS... I LOST TRACK..  SHE HAD .HEARD/SAW  TEH BELLA STORY... WANTED TO GET HER CHILD  INTO THE PROGRAM AND  VERY GINGERLY STARTED TO  SAY " I KNOW THESE DOGS COST ALOT" SO I SAID STOP RIGHT THERE- WE DONATE OUR DOGS--   SHE STARTED TO  CRY-  THAT TOOK A WHILE, AND IT GAVE ME A CHANCE TO EXPLAIN  THE "WE"  WERE THOUSANDS OF  CAMERA  PEOPLE WHO DONATE FROM $10,000 ALL THE WAY TO  44 CENTS FOR THE  STAMP TO SEND  LETTERS APOLOGIZING FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND MONEY  BUT WANT TO ENCOURAGE US.  EVERY ONE IS CRITICAL IN THAT SCHEME !

------ THERE IS A SCENERIO WHERE THE WOMAN MIGHT CALL ANOTHER SERV DOG OUTFIT  -- ONE THAT IS NOT SO LUCKY TO HAve the support we do from so many...-- one that has to   charge for  their dogs... the woman might have been told " go find the $20,000 somewhere." in which case she would have taken a  second or third job and felt guilty about spending $1.00 anywhere for teh next 2 years in hopes that  her grandson would quALIFY FOR A DOG IF HE HAD TEH $20K.

SO TEH GENEROUSITY OF ALL OUR SHATTERS- ALREADY SAVED THAT ONE WOMAN 2 YEARS GUILT RIDDEN STRUGGLE.  SOUNDED LIKE SHE HAD PLENTY OF STRUGGLE ALREADY--- 

I CERTAINLY TOLD HER  THERE WAS NEVER A GUARENTEE WE WOULD HAVE A DOG FOR HER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES  BUT HOPEFULLY MONEY WOULD NEVER BE THE DECIDING FACTOR.. ( WELL MAYBE 3 OR 4  MILLION MIGHT....)

WE FINALLY GOT TO HOW TO APPLY... AND I WENT THRU---GO READ OUR THE WEB SITE-- LOOK FOR "INQUIRY" AND SEND US INFORMATION.  I ASKED IF EITHER OF THE  CHILD'S  PARENTS WERE VETERANS OR FIRST RESPONDERS- AND SHE SAID "  NO HE WORKS HARD BUT  IS ONLY A CONCRETE WORKER"  -- WHICH SET ME OFF ON  THAT TIRADE..  

IT WAS TEH "ONLY"  THAT GOT ME. THERE ARE TIMES IN MY LIFE WHEN  I HAVE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO KNOW  A CONCRETE WORKER..... WHERE IS TEH TIPPING PONT THAT MAKES YOU AN  "ONLY?"  .....TEHRE ARE TIMES WHEN I HAVE BEEN AN  "ONLY".... A QUICK TRANSITION  TO ARGUING WITH GEORGE ( DVM)-- THERE ARE TIMES I HAVE AGREEED WITH HIM--  NOT OFTEN. BUT A FEW.... YESTERDAY IT WAS TEH SOMETIMES OVERBEARING RESPONSIBILITIES  OF  DOG OWNERSHIP WHICH PREVENTED MANY KIDS TODAY FROM  LEARNING  TEH POSITIVE THINGS OF  OWNING A PET.

TEH DETAILS OF THAT  ARGUEMENT WOULS TAKE 6 DAILY DOGGIES EVEN IF I DIDN'T LET HIM CONTRIBUTE....  BUT  HIS FINAL  PITCH WAS    "THE PITCHFORKS ARE COMING"

I DID WATCH IT THIS MORNING.... WELL WORTH THE 20 MINUTES....

IT IS NOT A  POLITICAL DISCOURSE ... BUT  A PURE  ECONOMIC ONE.. IN MY OPINION..

Service dog project  eats pretty  well-- i operate on the theory that an army moves on it's belly..  between camera people buying   take out dinners for us, , people bringing  home baked casserolles and goodies,  then i buy  an 8 serving size blue apron dinners  in a box -- we do pretty well.-- but i think i have found an even better one...   there is that place anne and i eat lunch-- the "fish market with a chef"  -- realllllly goooood food....  teh woman who owns it  stopped to "chat" with us-- actually when she went by our table  she looked with an intensity  at our plates --- causing me to say " you must be the owner by the way you looked over out plates"  and she was...

i wonder..... - if i can make a deal with that owner---  box up whatever you have  left over to feed 6-8 people  at 4:00pm  and  stevee or megan  ( our traine=rs who wander around while training....)  can pick it up,  we'll pay for it.-- or even better, donate it to sdp and we can give you credit for the donation-- or at least part of it ( minus what i eat--- would not  be donation)  that would be a good/ or super---

i don't get excited abotu veggies usually, but they had slices of corn, still in the sliced format---  roasted with cubes of sweet potatoes- that made me sit up and take note. 

 far better than pizza and chinese food which are sometimes  our last resorts.

in that same vein........   that big  box of Cheryl's cookies SENT BY A CP....  are gone -- thaNK HEAVEN EVERYONE ATE THEM SO QUICKLY-- AS I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM limiting myself  to  TWO A DAY-- AT 170 CALORIES EACH....

in an effort to help,  i bought a pallet of water in plastic bottles  .. which we are recycling--- plus - a bunch of 5 gallon jugs with  pointy bottom paper "cup" things..   but i know how many cases of soda we go thru... i know-- but i have not counted.

i know from raising 2 children... that diet soda is addictive--  it was awful to get them off "TAB"  which is no longer sold... i think...
