BENTLEY IS A LITTLE TOO WELCOMING TO AUDRY  WHO IS NO LONGER IN HEAT

thou shalt not panic.....

she just came out of heat and it is fairly normal for a male to ask if she is receptive still..

males are often badly bitten-- and most breeders will muzzle the females.

i don't- and bentley has been badly bitten a couple times

"keep your cold nose out of there" 

 SHE WILL EVENTUALLY SNAP AT HIM AND BITE.

i cheer her on-- he has to learn his manners

teeth will do it.

WHEN WE PUT OUT THE TRASH LAST WEEK, I THOUGHT WE REALLY OUGHT TO MAKE OUR  TRASH BAGS THE PURINA BAGS, BECASUE EVERYONE DRIVING  BY WOULD SEE IT.

Super Perfect Pet ---Perry

Wonderful dog  -super personality-  could not be better…  why did we decide he was a fabulous failure?

He paces- he does not trot.

Pacing is the legs on the same side moving forward at the same time- people can try it – When walking normally your left hand swings forward when your right foot moves forward.  Try it the other way..  it doesn’t “feel” right.   At SDP we have no scientific medical studies to prove this is  a bad thing, only that it does not seem right structurally and where our dogs are used  for mobility, any dog that paces has a different job as a perfect pet.  How soon can we tell?  Whenever they start to pace.

You can only make  the decision about pacing when the dog is  moving  at a slow speed without disruption.    A fast  gallop the feet are almost in unison except only one foot is on the ground at  a time..

A TEENAGE KID SAID HIS FATHER HAD A BUNCH OF MONEY AND RAN IN THE HOUSE-THE MAN  RETURNING

WITH A 50 CENT ROLL OF PENNIES WHICH HE DROPPED IN THE BAG.  WE STOPPED TO TALK TO A 

COUPLE WHO LIVED IN A  VERY SMALL HOUSE  ABOUT 10 X 10 - VERY CLEAN AND TIDY AND THEY RAN

EVERYTHING  FROM EXTENSION CORDS OUTSIDE IN THE YARD.--   WALKED  PAST ONE WOMAN SITTING ALONE  IN A CHAIR ON A WHITE BEACH.    TO A PIZZA PLACE WITH A COUNTER AND 6 STOOLS--

 AND VERY GREASY BACON AND LETTIUCE PIZZAS ABOUT  18" X 8" --- I MEASURED IT...- BARBARA GAVE ME MY CLIPBOARD AND LEFT. STEVE CAME IN WEARING A YELLOW TUXEDO-, REMOVED HIS TIE AND JACKET AND HAD A DARK GREY SWEATER UNDERNEATH.  ......AND THAT IS WHEN I WOKE UP.

THAT GREEN LETTUCE , BROWN BACON WITH  RED TOMATOE SAUCE PLUS

 STEVE'S YELLOW TUX  WERE DEFINITELY IN COLOR. 

THERE ARE PIECES I DEFINITELY RECOGNIZE-  MOST NOTABLY  THE EXTENSION GORDS AND THE POWER OUTAGE THE OTHER DAY.  IT WAS DEFINITELY FLORIDA....?WOMAN IN CHAIR--? MAN WITH THE PENNIES?--? TD BANK IS  COUNTING COINS FOR CHARITY---- TINY HOUSES???

I WAS VERY BUSY  DREAMING.... IN COLOR.

another well done...  staci got 120  pokerchip key chains put together-- the chips had teh hole already drilled-- but still those chains had the overlapping loop bit that is   1/4 inch--how they spread that to accept the pokerchip is beyond me...  and they( her son??) did the first bunch bouncing along in a car on the way back to conn.  i need to know how they did that...  i could maybe do  1 an  hour.. if i was lucky...  i am missing something.

the book  i got at mailcall yesterday   "garbage land" is teh one i remember--- and am enjoying reading it again.

she is a good writer..and has done her homework.... i can relate to every piece of trash she traces down to floor sweepings .. it certainy affects what i buy--but not yet how i get rid of it.-- numbers like- the avg american throws out 4.7 pounds of trash per day-- that is 1.8 pounds more than 45 years ago-- and there are more of us.--

there are certain things fo r which  i do not mind paying  taxes--- trash collection is one of them..

bailey meandered to the teepee yesterday and trotted some back to the house...  she is still covered by the 2 week antibiotic-- and is ( being forced to take) 75mg of duramax-- which is aparently not only a pain killer but a slight  anti inflamitory.  she looks great--- lesson ---heavy drugs are a bad thing-- i could have sworn she was not going to live a week from that one shot i gave her to try and get around her not liking to have the duramax shoved down her throat..

please-- don't send me all the ways to get a pill down a dog..  we know all of them.. so does she. she is very talented at pill location.  and if i grind it up and put it in her food-- one slight sniff- even with vicks in her nose.... she won't eat the food... been there done that. pill pockets are a joke.  she can wolf down 1/2 a stick of butter and spit out the pill hidden in it.

IT WAS AN OLDER LOOKING ONE... NOT EXACTLY LIKE MY FAVORITE..

. BUT I HAVE AN OLD ACTUAL GUMBALL ONE (IN YELLOW) WHICH MIGHT

 TAKE THE BONE HANDLE OF THE ONE ON EBAY... SO I WAS BIDDING

AND SO WERE 3 OTHER CAMERA PEOPLE---

CURRENT WINNER IS E***O  WHOEVER THAT IS WHO OUTBID ME (ANIMALEP)

AND I QUIT BECAUSE I SUSPECT IT IS A CAMERA PERSON- WHY ELSE OUT OF 

NOWHERE WOULD 7 PEOPLE START BIDDING ON A YUPPY????

MASTERSON IS A HUGE CONSTRUCTION FIRM-- BIG BIG BIG MACHINES- 

AND LOTS OF CONNECTIONS-- THEY ARE THE  ONES WHO TORE DOWN 

OUR COLLAPSED ARENA-- THEY HAD IT IN A HUGE PILE IN A COUPLE HOURS

 AND GONE IN  A DAY. JEFF IS A MALE--OBVIOUSLY- AND I THOUGHT HE WOULD DO BETTER WITH TEH BUILDING INSPECTOR- EVEN IF THE GUY IS NEW- THE OLD ONE  TOLD ME I WAS "OUT OF MY LEAGUE, I WAS ONLY A WOMAN"  AND THEN MADE ME PAY FOR SOIL COMPACTION STUDIES  ON THE  ARENA  FOR $27,000... AFTER I DID NOT  HIRE THE  BUILDER RECOMMENDED BY HIM....

THAT COMPACTION STUDY WAS AN INTERESTING REQUIREMENT  WHEN I WAS BUILDING AN ARENA WHER THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FLYING  UP... NOT DOWN-- AND IF IT CAME TO THAT, THE THING TO GIVE OUT  WOULD BE TEH STREGNTH OF THE MATERIAL IN THE COVER... NOT  PULLING UP ANY CONCRETE FOOTINGS.......IT SEEMS TO ME....

SO JEFF IS GOIJN GTO DEAL WITH THE TOWN- AND GET THE PERMITS...  I SENT HIM MY SCRATCHED PAPER- WHICH HE SAID HE HAS A FRIEND WHO CAN MAKE IT LOOK LIKE AND ARCHETCTCT DRAWING SO THE TOWN WILL BE HAPPY.....ALL TEH  WASHABLE WALLS AND PARTITIONS WILL BE CONCRETE/BLOCKS OR OTHERWISE...SO ALL PIPES FOR  ELECT AND PLUMBING WILL BE 100%  VISABLE.   I WILL LIKE THAT.

JEFF AND HIS FATHER HAVE DONATED TO SDP TO KEEP US GOING- SO THEY ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH OUR OPERATION--... AND ME.... I HAVE A PROBLEM  WITH HIRING A "NORMAL " CONTRACTOR- BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS MAKE PHONE CALLS TO CONTACTS.   IN THIS CASE WE NEED SOMEONE TO DEAL WITH THE TOWN INSPECTORS, PUSH DIRT AROUND AND HIRE A CONCRETE PERSON.  JEFF CAN DO THAT.

I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT MANY OF THE TOWN "ORDANENCES " ARE... BUT I HAVE A FEELING WE SKATE AROUND THE FRINGES WITH THE CHARITY/SERVICE DOG   CATAGORIE.  I HAVE SEEN IN PRINT "MORE THAN 5 DOGS'" ---   AND--- " MORE THAN 20 DOGS' "  AND WE ARE MORE THAN BOTH..

THEY ( USDA) ARE ALSO PICKY ABOUT CHICKENS  BECAUSE  OF CHICKEN VIRUSES-  WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ORDER FROM STROMBERG'S CHICKS AGAIN... I DON'T KNOW.

SO I PUT HER IN THE KITCHEN-  2 BIG SNARLS AND ONE SNAP AND THOSE PUPS COULD NOT BE BETTER BEHAVED...  AND SHE IS HAPPILY LYING ON THE SOFA AND THEY ARE ALL LOOKING AT HER WITH GREAT RESPECT.  WE ARE EVEN  SPOON FEEDIN G THEM A CAN- AND  WHEN SHE REACHES FOR CHOAOS WITH A SPOONFUL-- THE PUPS DON'T EVEN THINK OF JUMPING IN CHAOS  DIRECTION.--- PERFECT TRAINER-- EXCEPT SHE DOESN'T DO MAIL CALL

FLOUR- SUGAR -SODA -SALT- EGGS- MILK- AND- BUTTER

MY MOTHER STOOD AT THE STOVE AND SAID THAT MANY TIMES... 

AND IN  ABOUT AN HOUR WE HAD A CAKE.

IT TOOK A WHILE... AND DIDN'T HAPPEN OFTEN...

NOW I BUY A CASE-  I  PEAL BACK THE WRAPPER AND EAT THE  CAKES

TIME CONSUMED 4 MINUTES FLAT.

THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM OF MINE...

 IF I HAD TO GO THRU WHAT MY MOTHER DID TO MAKE A CAKE, I WOULD NOT

HAVE ANY CAKE TO EAT AND PROBABLY WEIGH LESS.

LETS FACE IT ... I AM ADDICTED TO SUGAR AND WHIPPED CREAM

OR....WHIPPED CREAM AND SUGAR... 

 BUTTER AND SUGAR AREN'T TOO BAD EITHER...

USE BROWN SUGAR AND I REALLY HAVE A PROBLEM.

THERE IS ONE OTHER NOISY  POO YESTERDAY....... IT IS THE "CLANK" OF PRE CONSUMED ROCKS AS THEY HIT THE TILE FLOOR INTHE KITCHEN...

BUD WAS HERE ALL YESTERDAY AND SET THE TWO  WOOD/COAL BURNING STOVES RIGHT IN THE NUTT AND DEAGLS HOUSES-- WITH NEW PIPES...  THAT POWER OUTAGE GAVE ME A DOSE OF REALITY-  AND I EVEN BOUGHTA SUPPLY OF  NEW SIZE D BATTERIES FOR THE LANTERNS--- ALONG WITH A FEW HEAVY DUTY EXTENSION CORDS..

WHEN THE POWER WAS OUT , I DID MAKE A LIST-- AND I AM WORKING THRU IT.  WE DID MANAGE- WITH A FEW VERY LUCKY THINGS... LIKE THE TRUCKS BLOCKING THE DRIVEWAY SO NO ONE COULD LEAVE.

I WENT TO BED AND GOT UP AND SOMEHOW THAT CREATED A SCRAPBASKET FULL OF TRASH.

FOR EXAMPLE.....TO MAKE MATTERS MORE CLEAR.....----- I HAVE TO BY 2 FLASH DRIVES TODAY, AND THOSE TINY "BIC LIGHTER" THINGS WILL COME IN PACKAGING WHICH IS A- HUGE and   B-  IMPENETRABLE CAUSING ME TO USE A SMALL "BOX CUTTER" ( WHICH CAME SIMILARLY PACKAGED) WITH WHICH I WILL CUT MY FINGER AND NEED A BANDAGE WHICH IN IT'S STERILE PACKAGING- WILL BRING THE TRASH UP TO ABOUT  .5  CUBIC FOOT.

YOU ALL HAVE HEARD ME SAY  THE GUY WHO COLLECTS OUR TRASH IS MORE CRITICAL TO ME THAN THE PRESIDENT OF THE US... - OR CERTAINLY ANY MEMBER OF CONGRESS....

THE TOPIC FASCINATES ME- AND HOW USELESS MOST OF IT IS...-- BIRDS HAVE FLASHY PLUMAGE TO ATTRACT PARTNERS... WE HAVE FLASHY PACKAGING  WHICH  HAS NO SIMILARLY WORTHWHILE PURPOSE. ..... YOU COULD CARRY THIS TO THE EXTREME OF THE SIZE STORE/ REALESTATE NEEDED TO MARKET  ALL THIS COULD BE REDUCED BY 84%- JUST LOOK DOWN A 20' AISLE AT BEST BUY AND THINK... WITHOUT THE PACKAGING YOU WOULD NOT NEED MORE THAN 2' OF DISPLAY AREA.

CHINA AND TRASH--- SOMEWHERE I READ THAT ALONG WITH TAKING OUR MANUFACTURING, CHINA ALSO INHERITED OUR TRASH AND POLUTION PROBLEMS  WHICH THEY WERE SLOW TO ADDRESS....  MEANING THAT CHINA HAS SOMEOF THE MOST AMAZING  DUMPS  IN THE WORLD.  THAT SAME "SOMEWHERE" I SAW PICTURES .  AND I HAVE OFTEN SEEN BREATHING MASKS BECAUSE OF THE AIR QUALITY. SO MOVING OUR  MANFG  WAS NOT ALL BAD...THE  PROBLEM THERE IS   THE STUFF DRIFTS ----I KNOW THIS FROM MY DAYS STUDYING FALLOUT PATERNS--

Good morning Carlene,

I just wanted to express my thanks to you with the following:

I love coming up there, and hope to be able to come back soon - yes even in winter!  SDP has become a stress release for me no matter the circumstances there at the time.  Whether it be a bizillion puppies, tons of loads of laundry, sick people and/or dogs or even the very generous but PITA Richard (LOL), it is still a place of refuge for me. I have never, and I do mean that, never, felt more welcomed by a group of strangers before.  My first visit was full of trepidation for myself for many reasons, but as I left that first time I was filled with a sense of belonging to something that was greater than myself.  When the CP's talk about SDP changing our lives, it really is true.  I know that your mission is to change the recipients lives and that the dogs live happy fulfilled lives, but the reality is that that change extends far beyond what I think you may have envisioned.  SDP really does change the lives of all those involved.  

So thanks for allowing me to come and visit and work and laugh and break bread and love on the dogs and the people of SDP!  And I will hopefully be contacting Pam soon about my next visit!

WE DIDN'T DO BADLY- THANKS TO SO MANY PEOPLE HERE AT THE TIME

  WE LOST POWER AT ?3:00 YESTERDAY-  NOT UNUSUAL- 

WE ARE AT THE END OF THE IPSWICH LINE.

I WAITED  A FEW  MINUTES - IT DIDN'T GO BACK ON

I CALLED THE ELECTRIC COMPANY-- AND THEY DID N'T KNOW IT WAS OUT

THAT WAS A BAD SIGN- IF THEY DIDN'T KNOW   THEN THE HAD NOT EVEN TRIED TO FIX IT YET...

BUT IT WAS   C  O  L  D -- BIG TIME--

I HAVE PREPARED US FOR THIS KIND OF THING--

 BUT AROUND HERE THERE ARE SOOOOOOO MANY "FERNOWS"

SOMETHING IS ALL SET TO WORK 'FOR NOW '   AND I WILL COME BACK AND FINISH....ETC

BIGGEST PROBLEM  WAS A SMALL HOLE IN TEH PIPE INT EH DEAGLE HOUSE WOOD STOVE

I KNEW IT-  IT IS ABOUT A $2.00 PROBLEM- AND I   KNEW IT OFTEN...

 AND DID NOT GO TO LOWES FOR THE  SECTION OT FIX IT.

 ( HOME DEPOT DOESN'T CARRY IT .. AND  I LIKE RIDING MY WHEELCHAIR BETTER IN HOME DEPOT)

FURTHERMORE I DON'T KNOW WHERE THINGS ARE IN LOWES...  I COULD WORK IN HOME DEPOT.

STUPID... YUP....

STEVE WAS THE ORGANIZER --  WE (EDITORIAL 'WE"  I SAT BY THE  FIRE) WENT ROUND AND LIT WOOD FIRES... THE LAUNDRY ( THANKS TO THE ADAMS  STOVE) & THE GUEST HOUSE--- PLAN WAS TO WAIT 1/2 HOUR BEFORE MOVING DOGS... THEN THE ELETRIC COMPANY BEGAN TO ARRIVE-- BLOCKING THE DRIVEWAY SO NO ONE COULD GET OUT( A GOOD THING- WE NEEDED EVERYONE)

IT WAS ONLY US-- THE NEIGHBORS WERE FINE...AND IT WAS DEFINITELY THE GREEN BOX (?TRANSFORMER?) BY THE GATE...-- WHICH SMELLED LIKE BURINING OIL-- AND MAYBE THE WIRE TO THE STREET( UNDERGROUND)

THE GREEN MONSTER WOULD TAKE 2 HOURS TO CHANGE- AND THEY HAD ONE AND DID NOT HAVE TO SEND TO CHINA FOR ONE...- IF THE WIRE HAD FRIED IT WOLD BE ANOTHER "COUPLE HOURS"... 

TEMP WAS DROPPING  IN THE DEAGLE .. BUT WE MOVED TEH NUTTS  TO THE BARN WHERE OUR AUTO ON GENERATOR KEPT THE FURNACE IN THE KENNEL NICE AND TOASTY..

WE HATED TO MOVE THE DEAGLE BUNCH-- THEY ARE ALL HEALTHY NOW BUT WE ARE NOT SURE IF THEY ARE STILL "SHEDDING VIRUS"--  WE PREPARED TO MOVE THEM IN THE HOUSE----------  LAURA DONNED A TYVEK SUIT TO CARRY THEM...TO THE TILED KITCHEN---PILED HIGH WITH FLUFFIES;;; AND WE WAITED.. THE KITCHEN DOGS WERE TO GO TO GRACE INTHE GUEST HOUSE-- AND IT WAS GETTING DARK.. 

 NEW GREEN BOX WAS IN-- WIRES WER BEING CONNEDCTED- AND TEH TEMP INTHE DEAGLE HOUSE WAS 51 DEGREES..-- WE HESITATED BECAUSE IF IT WAS 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE WE WOULD BE THRILLED WITH THE TEMP... WE STOPPED LOOKING---- IT WENT  BELOW 50  -- BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS AT THE STREET. HOOKING US LIVE... WHEN THE POWER CAME BACK ON-- INDICATING -- AFTER A FEW M INUTES ---THAT THE WIRE  WAS OK...

AS I SAT BY THE FIRE-- THE LIST OF FERNOWS GREW LONG...AND TODAY WE NEED TO GET EVERYONE'S OBSERVATIONS AND GO THRU THE LIST AND FIX THEM.

THE HOUSE GENERATOR FUNCTIONED BEAUTIFULLY(THANKS BUD) 

--ONCE OFF THE PORCH WITH IT'S FUMES- THAT RAN THE 2 KEROSENE 

FURNACES IN THE HOUSE.... ONCE I LOCATED A 3' EXTENSION CORD IN THE DARK...

2 OF THE 3 COLEMANS LANTERNS WORKED FINE- ONE IN GUEST HOUSE ..ONE IN OFFICE... 

 THE THIRD ONE NEEDED 8  "D"  BATTERIES... WE HAD ONLY "C"...

THE LIST GOES ON... SO THERE IS A TRIP TO LOWES TODAY-

I AM TRYING TO GET OUT WITH EITHER MEGAN OR STEVE AT 10 AND 3..

SO MAYBE THE 10 AM TRIP CAN BE TO LOWES....

WE JUST HAD TO BRING CHAOS AND BENTLY IN THE HOUSE-- APPARENTLY THE HEAT IN THE DORM DID NOT COME ON AND CHAOS WAS COMPLAINING..

ANOTHER PROBLEM  TO SOLVE.

I WONDERED... BUD...... THE HOUSE GENERATOR IS NOT BIG EINOGH TO RUN THE ELECTRIC HEATER IN THE NUT HOUSE-- BUT WOUL DIT HAVE RUN ONE OF THOSE 1500 W "MILKHOUSE HEATERS"?  THAT  WOULD HAVE HELPED...  ( SO FIND ONE OF THOSE TODAY TOO  WE OWN 900 OF THEM)

i am supposed to be working with anne on a grant...  and i am...

except that this section i was supposed to write about the who's 

 training methods we use-- which as you all know are not the kind

in the book....  so instead of the usual  daily doggie this can be a

 draft of what i am to send her... for her to straighten out...

here goes.....

danes are different...  

the training methosd used at sdp are not in any book..yet.  they evolved from carlene's years as 4-h leader  who's club  trained thier animals for an "end of summer circus" .  that dog and pony show drew the atention of a boston photographer  who needed a dog and horse for  a tv commercial for the new tuft's university vet school....  an easy job for carlene's 4-H trained animals.... and  animal episodes became new englands primere animal agency.

.. no longer  just dogs and horses, but cows and cockroaches , word got out in the mass film bureau tha.t carlene would show up on time  with the right animal and humainely  pull of whatever was needed for"the shot"

she often borrowed a  dog which was the right size .. shape.. and color,  which  meant trying to get the dog to do something the director had in mind... and then have him change his mind.  in handling hundreds of dogs  carlene found that once a dog learned to learn they were more malieable on a set. she noticed the danes ( and corgi's )  she borrowed often had that ability. there are 2 photo's that illustrate a danes ability to concentrate on getting the job done..  first is the white dog  actually in the tree apparently frightened of the  white cat at teh bottom.... second is george steady as a rock helping bella walk....while enduring a standing ovation as he was awarded the #1 service dog in the country.  both  perfect.

we have hundreds of examples of our service  danes doing things for which they could never have been taught.

they are perfect as service dogs for those who need help walking..  they are not perfectif you are deaf and need a dog to alert you to the doorbell ringing.  you would need a jack russell to wake up the dane who is sleeping on the couch.   

we start our pups at about 3 weeks  with spoon feeding deserts after they have had dinner-- so they are not starving.  in teh group of the whole  litter,  they learn to  wait their turn and respond when their name is called. by 6 weeks most have "IT" ---  look and listen  is teh foundation on all the rest of service dog training. altho our pups often go home for overnights with volunteers, we do not do "puppy raising" as we feel the bonding  process would be too upsetting for a dog to live with a family for 18 months and then go somewhere else.

our whole project is based on what a dog wants-- baasically to be with their person 24/7/365- 

they love working and stick thier heads in a harness with tail wagging. to that end, we need to teach them to be socially acceptable  and to do a few basic  things to help thier partner.-- after 6 months with their partner  we hear stories how the dog is matching thier stride and  they have found solutions to situations for which there can be no special training..
