 FROM JERI AND AUDRY
JUST A QUICK NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW WE HAVE ARRIVED AND ALL  WENT WELL...
AUDREY RODE LIKE A CHAMP...ALL SYSTEMS ARE IN WORKING ORDER...
MORE LATER...
*****
SHATUPON DAY !!!  WE HAVE SOLD OUT THE 2100 "NORMAL BOARD"---- PRAISES BE !!--- WE WOULD HAVE A TERRIBLE TIME WITHOUT IT.

PLUS IT WAS SUGGESTED WE USE SOME FUN FUND---TO HAVE THE HORSE  VETERNARIAN COME CHECK THE BIG DONKEY FOR PREGNANCY.. SHE IS GETTING A VERY FUNNY SHAPE IF SHE IS NOT PREGO...
****
TWO OF THE  DONKEYS WENT TO BELLA'S YESTERDAY..

..New members to the Burton clan. 2 Donkeys from SDP. Paisley and her daughter Eleanor. George kept an eye on Bella from the other side of the fence.

SO WE ARE DOWN TO WHAT I EXPECTED TO HAVE 4 MONTHS AGO.1. BIG AND 1  LITTLE MANAGEABLE DONKEYS.  WE HAD THE LITTLE GUY  IN FOR MAILCALL... HE WAS NOT REALLY RELAXED.. SO HE NEEDS MORE HNADLING/WALKING ON A LEASH ETC...  HAND FEEDING..

SPEAKING OF FEEDING-- BENTLEY STUFFED HIS NOSE IN THE DONKEY  FOOD AND MUNCHED AWAY.....HE  WOULD HAVE FINISHED THE BOWL... SO MUCH FOR CORN IS BAD TO FEED DOGS... WELL... WE MAY FIND OUT SOME DETAILS TODAY...
*********
THAT STUFF THAT IS OUT THERE IS NOT EVEN NICE  SNOW.  I PUSHED SOME AROUND FOR A BIT.. BUT IT WASN'T FUN AT ALL..-- PROBLEM BEING THE GROUND IS NOT SOLID UNDERNEATH SO I CONSTANTLY DUG UP STONE DUST MAKING DIRTY LOOKING PILES. IT WILL TAKE A MASSIVE EFFORT TO GET GRASS ON THAT "SITTABLE SECTION" BY PUPPY HILL  BY DOGFEST...  WE DO HAVE A PILE WHICH SHOULD BE TOPSOIL BY SPRING.
*****
JANINE TOOK OVER BENTLEY'S "AIRING"  TOOK HIM FOR A WALK IN THE FOREST-- HE LOVED IT !!
******
I THINK WE HAVE THE  FLYER FINALIZED FOR THE 19TH CAKE BIT...

POSTER ON ONE SIDE AN DSTORY ON THE OTHER... ( TWICE THRU THE PRINTER...)
IT SHOULD BE GOOD FUN TO HAND OUT CAKES...  -- I WILL DO IPSWICH !  I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE EVERY STATE  COVERED.. SO GET READY....WE CAN DO IT.
******
THE OTHER THING TO DO TODAY IS TO TAPE A CONGRATS FOR CHARLIE AT EXPLORE-- APPARENTLY THEY ARE  SLATED TO HAVE A MILLION "LIKES"  ON FACEBOOK  TOMORROW..
IF ANY OF YOU CAN DO THAT -- GO FOR IT.  MAYBE SIGN IT   SDP/CP XXXXXX SO THEYKNOW WE ARE CO OPERATING...

****************
I Don't mean to bore you with details ... but This is where i am keeping record in case anyone asks me..
********
it is amazing what throws you /me off-- timing wise...
1.   with the 8" snow, i needed to plow to get the staff and volunteers in to deal with the dogs...
i got up in the tractor without a problem , managed
teh hydralics with my right elbow instead of my hand... without digging up too much hot top...
.and  felt very proud of myself--- until i had to get out very quickly to tend to a person al matter...
i found that  i may use my left hand to lift myself in, but i need my right hand to lower myself out. leading to a very uncerimonious exit...  not a big problem... just one more inconvenience..

2.  then a simple matter of shutting the car door with the other hand caused me to slice my left leg with the bottom edge of the doorr.  bless grace---my full time reg nurse... gettin g alot of practice.
the lesson is i have to move more slowly now...#$%^%^&*() it  !
****
meanwhile bentley and chos madE the trip to the next town- just for fun....he never lay daown  but  panted all the way and back...
just to be techincally accurate... it was not the next town...i am ipswich  for 1/4 mile  topsfield for 3/4 mile , boxford for 3 miles then georgetown ... which has STORES to play in...that's 3 towns away....

feb 6 2016
i bought that bed that can raise head and feet to  comfortable positions for tv or reading... well --with me it is tv lately to watch what donald has said.. - HOWEVER  what they don't tell you in the fine print is that ... when you loose electricity... it stays folded into a v shape.. which makes sleeping in it possible only if you try to sleep across the fold.  until th epower comes back on  when it does a few more random  things because you are lying on the remote somewhere in th e folds if the bedding.---which has also turned on the air conditioner.
it was an exciting night.
other electrical fyi-- that electric gate as a back up  battery that enables the gate to function normally for another 50 open/shut sequences...  if it is stuck, it is stuck in the snow.. not because the power is off.

another discussion for the day..
we get alot of people  wanting to come here and learn to train dogs..--i have 2  obtuse comments on the topic.
1.---before i got started i looked around and several aadi accredited facilities offered training classes-- namely lu at ecad in torrington conn.-- for $5000  ecad would give me a course in training service dogs... so i looked into it- and they sent me a sample first lesson--first lesson / discussion was  "dogs smell with their noses"--- well i kind of figured that out long ago and anything else was not going to be worth th e$5000 or the time i would have to spend at ecad to get this "training degree"--
2.---- i think megan volunteered here about a year before  i promoted her to kennel cleaning-  which at that point the kennel was so bad she and i   had to chip away down to the concrete floor in kennel 9.. i remember it......- her super attention to detail made me decide to hammer into her the basics of dane training -- and her takes on the proceedure of  the volume of my corrections ould astound  a normal  person... i could sit in tht t tent and tell  her simply how to hold a leash when she was in the back of the arena...  she suffered for the education...
point being -- it ain't an easy progression... nor is it automatic.. some can... some can't-- but you don't get to be called a "trainer" by me until i have seen it.

oh boy do we have texas toast !!!
not only a full case, but 2 other packages at mail call had texas toast in them........ so i am all set for a while  !
as a matter of fact.. we are all set with all the basic necessities for a bit--- the overflow room  overfloweth ... so lets go back on the  "send the postage instead" mode.... we need envelopes with the $12.83 postage instead of boxes where UPS gets the 12.83-----  (and try and  get the chicken bricke sold out-- maybe--- be sure to help all the newcommers find their way to the SHATTING PROJECT  that is critical to our well being...)
i just got the morning report on the shatting--- wow,,,,,87 to go....  we will make it once again....   bless all of you with your $10.. or  (more than $10  !!!!!  )
*******
now the accident report....
how am i doing? i am not sure i can reespond within  the sdp ruling of  allowing only one complaint a day...
i think i did the ultimate in isometric exercises when i pulled bently out of that elevator...--- THAT IS A STATEMENT ... NOT A COMPLAINT... SO I STILL HAVE ONE COMPALINT TO GO.---

YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT UP TO PARR WHEN  INSTEAD OF MOVING YOUR BODY TO THE WINDOW TO SEE IF THE SNOW IS PLOWABLE, YOU CLICK ON TH EPUPPY HILL CAMERA TO  MAKE THAT ASSESSMENT... another statement.... i am getting off pain meds-- i  can't take that stuff forever even if it is only non Rx... so.. here's the daily compaint-  i can not figure out which part of me will complain  about being abused  next.
****
here's another statement...  i have 2 doctors apt today... neither one on the first floor..i will not take bentley-- it is his 10th day of being quarantined to be sure he didn't bite because of rabies...  ($500 fine or imprisonment or both for violoatin of the order)
being inactive for 10 days is not helping him any either...
jeri and i counted his offspring yesterday... he has had 59 pups-- of which 41 are doing something...  20 are certified sd...  18 are in training to be SD... 3 are held for breeding stocak. a success rate of abotu 70%
*****
trying  to put a positive spin on whatever happens..... it is certainly a lesson for me about what it means to be handicapped---little things are big deals-- quickly turning the door knob can present unusual  problems. and i will not live "life on the first floor"--- i will have to deal somehow.
*****
moving on....
i would love to have an email fom bella's principal about being faced with a 130 pound dog in her school at the start...

From Bella's Mom:
Today after school I had Bella's conference with her teachers. Her math teacher LOVES George. Last year at the end of the year when Bella took off George's vest she was just about laying on the ground
with him. She said it is so hard for her not to snuggle up with George during class. I love how she added George's name to the progress report. I was very proud to hear that they are both doing great in school and that they are a "model twosome". How sweet. So far they are both doing great in school.
Bella thinks she can stay up past her bedtime since school will probably be canceled. I told her she still has to go to bed since it isn't canceled yet! So off to make her turn off her movie!
Thank you for checking in with us and sharing a comment or family story. We love hearing from our friends.
 Love Bella and George πŸ‘§πŸΆπŸ’•
*****************
technically , i think bella's mom is 32% of the reason george is so successful... she has great logic  "turn off the movie... they didn't call school off yet"..

Hi Carlene,

Pandora is doing great and making a difference here at Frontier.   I have attached a few pictures for you to see her in action.  This is a high school group of students that range from 18 to 21 years of age.   At 21 they max out and will graduate, it's a happy and sad time because there are not a huge number of opportunities for them in NY.   This is one area that has been cut back in the NYS budget.   But for now Pandora loves to go visit and you can see the children just love her.   Pandora has not forgotten any of the training that you gave her, she is in complete control and listens even when she gets excited about seeing the kids.   It's amazing how much she impacts the students just by walking around and letting them pet her.  The teachers say the children can't stop talking about her and are always so happy when they know she is coming in.  Next week we go visit a Kindergarten class and another special ed 1st grade group.     My new office is at the High School so she sees more students than ever before.  She does NOT like being in the hall when the bell rings and it gets crowded.  I can't blame her, the halls are wall to wall teenagers.  So we time our walks through the halls to make sure it's between classes.  Not only does she make a difference in the children's day but all the adults as well.  As soon as everyone knows she's in they come down to visit.  Wish I was that popular!!!!
You and your project are amazing and again I can't thank you enough for giving us an opportunity to be part of something this special.

Will send more pictures soon.

WHO KNEW??
THAT HAVING EXLORE CAMERAS WOULD MEAN PUTTING EXTRA LALLY COLUMNS IN THE CELLAR TO DEAL WITH THE POUNDAGE OF PEOPLE WALKING THRU HERE TO SEE THE LITTLE PUPPIES...
SO LAST NIGHT ANOTHER...WHO KNEW.??..
THAT HAVING THESE CAMERAS WOULD MEAN CANCELING A AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD???
WE WERE GIVEN THIS NEW MIC SO PEOPLE COULD HEAR ALL THE QUESTIONS AT MAIL CALL
AND IT WORKS... HOWEVER IT ALSO WORKS 97% WHEN GRACE CALLS IN OUR TAKEOUT DINNER FROM THE OTHER ROOM.... AND READS IN MY CHARGE CARD...TWO PEOPLE CALLED ME AN D ONE.. FROM TEXAS CALLED TO SAY IT WAS ON THE VIDEO.. SO I ASKED HER TO GO LISTEN AND TELL ME THE NUMBERS..... SHE HAD ONLY ONE NUMBER WRONG......

SO I CALLED AMERICAN EXPRESS TO VERIFY THE LAST CHARGE-- AND CANCEL THAT CARD--- THEY WERE EXTREMELY EFFICIENT N SAYING THEY WOULD GET THE NEXT TO ME AS SOON AS I HUNG UP THE PHONE.
WE ARE A GOOD CUSTOMER-- PARTICULAARLY FOR GAS IN THE TRAINING VEHICLES...

MY EXCITEMET OF TODAY...IS ..I TIED MY SHOES !!-
DOESN'T SOUND LIKE MUCH BUT FIRST PAIR OS SNEAKERS SINCE THE ACCIDENT...
.BETWEEN A BODY THAT WOULDN'T BEND AND HANDS
THAT COULD NOT DEAL WITH SHOE LACES--
I FORCED THE ISSUE AND GOT THEM TIED -- WITH DOUBLE KNOTS. !!
BY THE TIME I OT THEM TIED I WAS EXHAUSTED AND NEARLY HAD TO GO BACK TO BED... BUT I AM NOW UP...
SOMEWHERE THERE IS A BROADWAY SONG....
DON'T PASS THE PLATE BUD
DON'T PASS THE CUP
WHENEVER YOU FIGURE YOU'RE DOWN AND OUT
THE ONLY WAY IS UP....... I FORGET WHERE THAT CAME FROM...
THE BASIC PROBLEM IS-- YOU CAN TAKE TEH PAIN KILLERS AND FEEL LOVELY AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PUT ANY FOOD IN YOUR TUMMY. PAIN KILLERS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PROCESSING OF FOOD. HECK OF A CHOICE.. FOR ME-----WALKING OR EATING... AND I DO LOVE MY WHIPPED CREAM ... AS YOU ALL KNOW.
AN ACCIDENT REVIEW PERSON IS COMING HERE TODAY-IN PREP, I DID LOOK OVER OUR 990 FORM WHERE I HAVE TO LIST THE HOURS I DONATE TO RUNNING SDP.. FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS THE 990 IRS FORM LISTS THAT I SPEND 80 HOURS A WEEK WORKING ON SDP-- A CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE...-- NOT TRUE THIS LAST WEEK !

WE HAD MANY COMMENTS ABOUT RACHAEL'S CARE OF BELLA'S SERVICE DOG GEORGE. RACHAEL IS A GOOD WRITER---
*****
HERE IS ANOTHER "WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A SERVICE DOG" EMAIL I GOT FROM DIDI
******
Thank you for posting regarding service dog care and needs as
well as for Rachael's succinct letter regarding the care of and needs
of Service Dogs. I totally agree with you and
Rachael. There is a lot to do in order to appropriately care for these
amazing service dogs...best friends, companions, and, yes, caretakers.
It's more than just feeding, watering, brushing, and taking outside and
poo picking. It's important to notice all the small things...scratches or
slightly off gait, or tiredness, needs for love and attention.
Every season, I change out DiDis emergency kit supplies to match
her travel weather needs. Winter requires booties and jacket,
summer requires a back window sun blocker screen, and her car kit
always contains blankets, fluffier, and snacks; also included are bowels
, food, water, leash, collar, first aid kit ( gas ex tabs, blood
stop powder, pedialite, bandage wraps, drool cloths, towel, etc.). However,
having said that, my service dog is worth every effort and ounce of energy.
I again, am so very grateful for DiDis support and guidance. I now depend on
Her to get me up curbs, which I can't do without her. It seems small, but without
her help and support I am stuck in a parking lot looking at the store without
the ability to go in. It's really a very helpless feeling. I have lost a lot of independence
due to my disability and am so grateful for a calming companion to help me
regain it. There were times in Europe when my husband would be busy filling the
rental car gas tank and I couldn't go into the store to use the bathroom because
he wasn't able to help me at that moment, or having to have his help getting to the
bathroom In a restaurant, having to wait for him to help me walk to look at what
I was interested in at the markets, etc. My service dog is amazing and wonderful
In supporting me and blessing my life.
Thank you all again,

Karen and DiDi

WONDERFUL LESSON IN SERVICE DOGGING FROM BELLA'S MOM

It was another good day. No school issues so whatever was bothering George last week seems to be better this week.
So someone had asked about what we do for our service dog. You know we never had considered a service dog for Bella before seeing a mobility dog in action. It was a long year of us driving 30 minutes to Service Dog Project at least once a week to volunteer. Bella helped change waters, feed, brush, scoop poop, clean kennels, sweep, fluff fluffies and give pats with treats to many dogs over that year long period.

The more you can be there helping out the better chance of a dog choosing you just like George chose Bella. Is it always easy? Nope. It takes a lot of planning. With crutches there was no thinking involved. Bella could get up and dressed and then crutch to school or to a Dr appointment. No worries.
But when you add a service dog into the mix it takes more planning
. Bella did George go pee and poop this morning? Did George have breakfast? Do you have his vest/chain? Did he have 5 minutes to run? Do you have his coat if it's cold? It's a lot to plan every time you leave the house. Then planning for the unexpected such as keeping a container in the car with water/ food bowls, treats, food, fluffies, and water.
Does Bella always do 100% of his care? No of course not but she does 95+% of his care. She will happily take him to the bathroom, feed him, brush him, scoop his poop, and of course keep treats nearby.

Would we change anything? No way. Seeing the improvements have been amazing. Bella is so much stronger. But when you have a service dog you have to remember this is a 24/7/365 day job. Bella doesn't decide when she wants to use George or when she wants to use crutches. George doesn't stay home alone. He is always with us including overnights at the hospital.

Has it changed anything? Of course it has. Are their places we don't go? Yup. Does it draw attention? Yes, at times Bella doesn't feel like saying Hi but she has to because she isnt allowed to be rude. So before you think of getting a service dog remember they require a lot of work, training, even after you think they are trained there is always more they need to learn, love, time and attention. Are crutches easier? Yup but we have adjusted our lives to include George and wouldn't change it for anything. It's not an option to give up on him and decide one day we don't want to put forth the extra effort.

It is a lot of effort but he gave Bella her life back so we will do whatever we can to make him happy!
But look at that face? What's not to love?
Love Bella and George

all people applying for a dog must read this...especially the last 2 sentences..
*********
we have alot of applicants... true.  but you can not just send in paperwork and disappear-   not even watching the cameras to see if there is anything you could help doing---even long distance.-- not only that but we need to see how you function and what kind of dog would suit your lifestyle.  no two of these dogs are the same...  goldens and labs tent to be more "generic" with a more uniform attitude. not so with danes- so the matching  is a challange - but spectacular---

with 31 pups coming along-  i would expect  to have close to 31 graduates ready in th e next year. -- if you are applying for a dog... read rachael's letter again-- and do everything possible to stay involved..  that is still no guarentee you would get a dog... because there are sooooo many  variables...i realize most everyone has a job  making demands- we make allowances for jobs and volunteering elsewhere...
having one of our dogs is going to mean a lot of what rachael put in her email.......

it is life altering
and that is a good thing.

I HAVE BATHED- YOU WILL ALL BE GLAD TO KNOW !
GOOD NEWS IS  DOCTOR SAID WOUNDS CLOSED ENOUGH FOR A TUB SOAK
BAD NEWS IS HE DIDN'T TELL ME HOW TO GET OUT OF THE TUB.

WHEN YOU DON'T DO MUCH... THERE ISN'T MUCH TO WRITE ABOUT
***
BIG CONVERSATION  OF YESTERDAY... IS
WE HAVE ALOT OF APPLICANTS-- AND ALL COULD USE A SERVICE DOG,
EXCEPT------THERE ARE ALOT WHO DON'T REALIZE THEY HAVE A LARGE
COMMITTMENT TO MAKE TO THE DOG.  I WISH RACHAEL WOULD  WRITE
MORE OF WHAT THEY DO FOR GEORGE  WHILE HE DOES SO MUCH FOR BELLA..
BELLA AND HER  MOM  ARE A VERY GOOD MATCH FOR GEORGE. BELLA  TAKES CARE OF HIM 99.4%
***
WE HAVE SEVERAL  SMALLER CHILDREN WHO HAVE APPLIED FOR A "GEORGE'
AND WE HAVE TOLD THEM TO COME AROUND  AND BE AROUND THE FARM TO VOLUNTEER AND GET SOME IDEA OF THE EFFORT INVOLVED WITH HAVING A DOG... IF SOMEONE SAYS 'BUT I LIVE AN HOUR AWAY'
THEY GO TO  THE BOTTOM OF THE PILE.. ALOT OF OUR VOLUNTEERS LIVE OVER AN HOUR AWAY..
HAVING A SERVVICE DOG IS A PARTICIPATORY EVENT IN LIFE---
TO SOME DEGREE IT IS LIKE HAVEING A DEPENDENT CHILD-- IF YOU ARE PACKING A CAR FOR A T RIP AND YOU OPCK BOTTLED WATER FOR THE KIDS... BETTER PACK A GALLON FOR YOUR DOG.
YOU NEED A JACKET-- THEY NEED A JACKET
TO SOME PEOPLE IT IS SECOND NATURE TO DEAL WITH OWNING A DOG
TO OTHERS IT IS AN INCONVENIENCE.
*****
PEOPLE CONCENTRATE ON THE FACT THAT SDP HELPS PEOPLE... AND WE DO
BUT OUR FIRST JOB IS TO BE SURE WE DONATE DOGS TO PEOPLE WHO WILL
TAKE SUPER CARE OF THEM...
***
WHERE OUR WHOLE APPLICATION PROCESS GETS CONFUSING IS
DEALING WITH VETS WHO HAVE PTSD AND SOMETIMES LACK THE OOOUUUMMPH
TO COME ROUND AND BE INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING A DOG
THAT IS STEVES JOB TO KEEP THAT STRAIGHT.
****
POEPLE COMING HERE FOR A DOG OUGHT TO BE TOTLLY FAMILIAR WITH OUR WEB AND THE CAMERAS. ... AND HAVE WATCHED LIFE AROUND HERE TO THE POINT OF KNOWING QUITE A BIT ABOUT US.
IF THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF  TEH CAMERAS BEFORE THEYY COME HERE.. THEN THEY DARN WELL BETTER BE TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH US THE SECONT TIME THEY ARE HERE.
****
THIS IS NOT  LIKE ORDERING A PAIR OF BOOTS FROM LUCHESE WHERE YOU SEND IN A MAP OF YOUR FEET AND GET BACK A PERFECT PAIR OF COWBOY BOOTS.
WE EXPECT YOU TO BECOME A PART OF THE ORGANIZATION--AND REPORT BACK NEWS SO THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE RAISED THESE DOGS CAN ENJOY  HEARING ABOUT  THEM.

NEXT PROBLEM
MAYBE SOMEONE COULD HELP....
DO I HAVE A BUSINESS ACCOUNT WITH VERIZON BECAUSE I HAVE A WEB PAGE/ADDRESS?
RESIDENT ACCOUNTS- THEY TALK ABOUT PHONE INTERNETT ADN  TV FOR 79.99  SO WHY HAVE I GOT A BILL FOR $307 A MONTH..
I SPENT YESTRDAY TRYING TO FIND A LIVE PHONE FOR VERIZON CUSTOMER SERVICE-- BECAUSE WITH ALL THE 'LET ME HELP YOU. .. PRESS 1 IF YOU WANT .......'\ "
