i hope we still have 4 cp's here today..  we did as of last night... but 2 went to the local watering hole for dinner....- and i never heard them get home..  but then i was asleep by 8:30...

all the dogs are still singing... so i bet  moriah is still  accepting visitors...  yesterday 11 minutes...

shatupon sunday---  and happily a  sold out shatupon--   as that got soold out... there was some confusion about the new "wall"  i was opening...as people rushed to get thier favortite numbers....    i only know how to change it in one spot-- on the web ----there are 3 "links" and the othetr 2 are more complicated so janine changes them... so if you want on quickly -- and keep getting the old sold out wall.. try another link / chicken picture....

w/r/t the summer intern program----we have enough to get going....all 3 kids-- devlin laura and conner -- have consented to 3 days per week... i know  you all will be watching... you should see devlin sun mon tues  laura m-w-f  and connor t-th-sat   and both laura and conner have an optionall of sunday --- in the meantime keep those chicken bricks sold to fill  any gap...

meetings--- i thought i would never need to use that word in this place... but... mark says we should get the dogfest plans down pat--- the debate is  the new england lobster clambake deal----- or not lobster- it is new england... but so is the ballpark hot dog...and then marini corn will be here only if we have no cold weather before dogfest... i e.. not something we can plan on...

then---- both steve and megan will be here today-- and we have some dogs coming down the homestretch... so we should go over the applicants file and see if maybe someon e matches what we have.  this is where being around is to your advantage... if in working around the dogs, one dog  picks you, that supercedes all other decisions...  

pups are raising the dickens-- hopefully the cp's get up soon and think it fun to play withthem ~!!!!

i have gone  far as i can with the building--- i am hoping today that some men come along to do up the  turnbuckle attachements i have ready... after that we can measure for the  other end of them and tighten them...  it was terribly symbolic  when they moved the old table into the midst of the new area  and got all the tools out of the t tent.  

especially since mark will be cooking today..a quick wipe off of the  whole place is in order.

lord knows how we can get the top on... probably  tie together in accordian shape-- slide it next to the building and throw ropes over.

The six-hour flight to Seattle left me stiff and slow-moving. With the help of Sir Thomas, we made our way through the seemingly endless airport, drawing the attention of the usual Dane admirers (to many of whom I needed to point out his working status, point to the vest, and make a point of Please Do Not Pet).

One comment I’d not heard before came from a flight attendant (who thoughtfully did not even make eye contact with Thomas,). While in line for the tram to whisk us to baggage claim, she said, “It’s so nice to see a service dog working. A real one. All I see are frauds. So many of them.”     that says quite a bit.  Sadly.

2 PEOPLE HAVE NOW OFFERED A SPECIAL DONATION FOR THE PROJECT OF KEEPING OUR 3 "INTERNS" ON TEH PAYROLL FOR THE SUMMER... SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO GO BAG GROCERIES AT THE SUPERMARKET...

THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA.... AND I AM SURE WE CAN PULL IT OFF.  EITHER 2 OR 3 DAYS DEPENDING ON THE BUDGET...  THEY ARE ALL 14  AND CAN LEGALLY WORK...  

NEW TO ME... WHEN I WAS A KID, YOU HAD TO BE 16 TO GET "WORKING PAPERS"  --- UNLESS YOU WANTED TO GO STAND IN FRONT OF THE POST OFFICE AT 5 AM AND WAIT FOR THE TRUCKS TO PICK UP ' AGRICULTURAL " WORKERS.    I TRIED THAT ONCE-- WE WERE PAID BY THE BOX OF STRAWBERRIES  PICKED-   IN ONE DAY  I DEVELOPED A BIG APPRECIATION FOR  PEOPLE WHO HELPED PROVIDE  FOOD  LIKE  STRAWBERRIES ...  IT ALSO MADE ME DECIDE TO GO TO COLLEGE-   WHAT SCARED ME WAS THAT   I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT  IF I WAS ANY MORE "COLLEGE MATERIAL" THEN THEY WERE... THEY COULD CERTAINLY PICK STRAWBERRIES MUCH FASTER THAN I COULD. 

MINE IS NOT TO QUESTION WHY.

I AM TOLD THERE IS STILL A SYSTEM OF PICKING UP DAILY WORKERS  HOME DEPOT AT 5AM...

I also write a weekly blog  just for  the  Explore Blog.
The official SDP page is managed by Camera Mark..

This EPW site is for a group who are interested in service dogs but it is  not our official site.  People on EPW  have learned alot...and  very often give correct answers to questions.  But sometimes they have their facts all wrong.  It is particularly distressing to me when advice is offered to people wanting to inquire about getting a servicce dog and that advice is incorrect.  Details for application  and making an inquiry are on our web.  People should be directed there.

Please-  remember no one speaks for me. 

i am available by snail mail or at mail call. and can answer 98.4% of teh questions..

sometimes there is no answer.

it is terrible when someone tells a person suffering from ptsd  that they can get a dog  in a month by  volunteering- and i am not aware that they have been told that...they end up volunteering  -- it is not til they tell me the dog they have  picked out, thqt  i realize they are not  on the same page... that situation is a disaster for all...and it has happened....

it is amusing when the twisted tales invbolve who is sleeping with whom- that is normal garbage...-- but that stuff does not start from me.

even if you get some information from me... be aware if situations change, i will  change decisions as needed..

for example.....-- we decided to breed mariah to walter... until we discovered - by accident- walter's son was a much better candidate...

now if you had not read the daily doggie and were not aware of the rather indelicate problem walter had last time with teh sandwich box, syringes  warmed under armpits and various hose arraingements... you might think we were being indecisive when all of a sudden grommet is doing the honors...

then teh internet conversation of negative people would go like this

"i thought they were going to breed her to walter" - and someone could say "they don't know what they aare doing" "they breed dogs indiscriminately"   and a bunch of negative commetns would start in a feeding frenzy.  drives me nuts...  especially when mother nature is in charge..  

please---  ask me--- do not get involved with  rumors---

" i thought you said" can have  very little bearing on current acitivites.

i hate to think i have to be more careful about conversations... but.......i apparently made some joke about tina reminding megan to worm the pups-- so she did... next thing megan is wondering why tina is reminding her- and furthermore how coudl tina ... in california... be up to date on the details of "to worm  or not to worm"-- of course by then i forgot i had made the comment about tina reminding megan.. so i too was wondering how worming got in tina's  job description...when i was just making a joke about  how tina is extremely efficient....

back to breeding puppies..  yes... we need more pups...and the story of why we breed our own is available back thru the 10 years of daily doggies... basically .. we have tried rescue danes... with poor success...  we do much better with home breds.

I received a small "scholarship" one summer when I was in High School that surprised me and made me feel honored. I have "passed this forward" on numerous occasions and have watched how the recipients also have enjoyed the honor and some are even starting to do the same to the next generation.

Toward that end, I would like to gift such a small scholarship to Laura, Smiley and Connor for their work at SDP this coming summer. --- christy   from md.

i am assuming anyone reading this is familiar with a bunch of background info-- like we are trying to make puppies with mariah and have had some interesting complications with which to deal.

   mariah-- 18 minute tie... with grommet.   what can i say???  either the entire thing is way out of sequence... or 3 weeks ago  someone  doing the "TP" test blotted a surface wound from the opal fight  and mistaked the blood for teh exudate indicating a heat cycle.-- and during/after that she did not "flag" or stand still   

which she is doing now... my problem now is the drip is still very red.... abd the book says "salmon colored" ahd her "attendee" is grommet who is only 10 minths old--- so ??? is he shotting blanks????  at any rate we will try walter ( grommets dad) today also... i really don't care who gets her "with pup"  for future lining up of bloodlines, it might be better for walter, but  i am not willing to take a chance on his aim.

fact remains i have not had a successful AI.. and i have not had a natural breeding fail..  grommet certainly went thru all the proper motions yesterday  so ... i checked with george and he said he doubted they were blanks...  so maybe...

a camera person ---sue  from calif....-- was here all yesterday- and i think i passed her in the driveway once.. so she is busy. she said she thought she missed.t  i told her it was probably going to be goin gon for days...

we are minus one section -- which they ahve  shipped as of yesterday.

we have plenty to do in the meantime... like get some cables in and tightened  to firm it up.

how much weight has bentley gained???? his service dog harness is too tight... last time i used it  he visably relaxed when i took it off...

so jacky got me another... it has 2 girths and both ahve extendersw on them

however..... to use it i had to put both extenders on one girth and let the other swing in the breezes

i was in ccostco- where i practice with their  electric wheelchair-  bentley is never more than 1 foot from me... but i was not holding his leash.. which dangled.. a woman came up and told me i must have him on a leash--- so i grabbed the 18 rope ( leash)  and she said she felt much better if i had hold of him...

i could not keep it back... i had to say, "if i can't control him with my voice, this leash is not going to help..  he weighs 160 pounds"

at which point she deccided he was dangerous...  so i asked him to lie down while she talked...  she left very confused.

and then i had teh phone call problem...couple cp's yesterday  were too quick to decide to call me with what was percieved to be a problem..

i was asleep but i think the call was wanda running around the arena late at night... that is not a real  problem - if wanda had "broken out" of a kennel, she would  just find somewhere to be comfortabel for the night..... what they coudnot see was janine was down there riding her horse...

wanda and oliver will be here today+++ because janine is on her way to ride a bike 120 miles in one day in washington dc.... i dunno why...

it is like mt everest... it is there.

i hope we have plenty of spirit sticks coming... they are good fun to open at mailcall...from normal stick  adn photo.. to very strange creative... they are fun..

  also i jnow have 200 monkey fists hanging over my head to fiinish up to all the  dogfesting and spirit stick people..so if you want one--- include your name and address on the stick... well if you don't want your name, then just "occupant"  and your address..  

some people seem sensative about sending name and address  over the internet and elsewhere...

i dunno.....i hear the government is tied in knots about access to phone records and email activity

i do have feelings about that....i don't  give a rip about the privacy aspect... what i heartily object to is paying the salary of these clowns in congress who don't get enough done now.... and once they have access to someone's comments about their love life, they will be tied in knots for years.

speaking of salarys... last night we did not turn off the mic on schedule and proceeded to discuss the summer plans for these teenagers.

problem.. we have 3 kids who are fantastic workers...smiley laura and connor-- all with years of training  and very valuable.

  the very worst thing that could happen  for sdp   is for either of them to decide to   be a bagger at the supermarket.

the problem being  we can not afford to pay them $$$  what they are worth...   what we can offer is experience... and isn't that a crock.. !!!

we can take advantage of the fact that they are 14 years old and don't realize  how valuable they are.....  and maybe   their parents  would be thrilled to have them off teh streets for the summer.  

lets face it... this place  is a learning experience..( and experience comes  from bad experienc es... but lets not go there.) . ... 

so we are trying to  figure out how to keep them all on some kind of pay and volunteer schieule...

so we left the mic on-- all you people who donate to the chicken bricks are entitled to know where the money goes...  and hopefully will get some idea how critical your $10 numbers are-- our payroll is $5000 a week... that is $250,000 per year   scares me  big time.. but we seem to be making it between the explore grant and the shatupon society... we are live....

i feel that no one here is paid enough anyway--  and i live in fear  of someone having to go earn a proper living somewhere else...                       and speaking of that... i got this from colleen

acccent on EXPERIENCED groomer--- grooming has come a long way since i was younger... historically a dog groomer washed the dog and cut out the matted hair... now a groomed dog looks like they have been to the hair dresser with every hair in place.  and every breeed has thier rules of coiffing..  and she runs a big deal place.... in lynn..

i have ahd enougu challanges for the day-  chrome disappeared from  the top of my screen so i had 1/2 hour searching to find aol and my emails.  my favorites bar has teh daily doggie info and i don't know how i could ever find it on my own.... the r are passwords long since gone from memory...

how bad it it???  i speak truth----- my cell phone-- yesterday-- gave me the message that noel's water had broken..-- that was last week.. where was that text message in the meantime???   being checked by congress???

I AM WAY BEHIND IN THOSE BLOGS I WAS TO WRITE FOR EXPLORE-- ONE PER WEEK...  I GOT DISTRACTED...

TODAY I TRIED TO ATTACK THE  CONCEPT OF... IF YOU GET A DOG TO SIT IN FRONT OF YOU  AND YOU GIVE THEM A GRTEAT, IN THE DOG'S MIND HAS HE LEARNED TO SIT-- OR HAS HE  TAUGHT YOU TO FEED HIM TREATS.

THERE IS A VERY SOPHISTICATED DIFFERENCE.

I KNOW IF I AM TRYNG TO GET A DOG TO HOLD SOMETHING IN HIS MOUTH, THE MINUTE I BRING OUT TREATS, HIS MIND OS ON THE TREATS AND NOT THE CHORE AT HAND...  DOWN  THE ROAD IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE... IT BECOMES A "COMMAND" FOR THE DOG TO DO A TRICK.. LIKE BAILEY GETTING THE BASKET...  WHEN SHE WAS LEARNING IT.. THERE WERE NO TREATS INVOLVED..  NOW THAT SHE KNOWS TEH JOB, SHE WILL EVEN CHECK TO BE SURE THE TREAT ( PAYCHECK) IS  AN APPROVED KIND.

 I DID WARN CLEARSPAN THAT WE ARE MINUS ONE LEG --- AND MARK ASKED IF IT WAS THE PIPE OR FOOT.. AT WHICHJ TIME I THOUGHT I BETTER BE SURE WE HAVE THAT FOOT PIECE TOO.. SO I WIL GO COUN T THOSE IN THE RAIN. IT IS THE PIPE THAT WWE ARE SO FAR MISSING.

I DID MAKE A FEW CABLE CONNECTIONS YESTERDAY SITTING IN THE T TENT ( DRY)    ... WE NOW ARE SET TO MASS PRODUCE---  AND I WILL FEEL BETTER WHEN A FEW CABLES AR IN PLACE... RECTANNGLES ARE NOT STABLE... TRIANGLES ARE.

A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WILL BE HERE FOR TEH SHATTING ON SUNDAY.. MAYBE WE CAN GET THE NEXT PIECES  UP..

I JUST THOUGHT OF THE TEEPEE METHOD OF HAVING THE FIRST TRIANGEL BE SOOOOOO STEADY.... HANDLING THIS RAFTER WILL BE ALOT EASIER IF WE HAVE A  LEG TO SWING IN PLACE AS WE DID WITH THE TEEPEE. HMMMMMM.  LIFT IT WITHTHE TRACTOR  TO A HOLD POSITION...GET THE FEET ON THE SIDE  DOWN-- TEHN HOIST IT.

HAVING THE WHOLE THIG SWING ING IN MID AIR TAKES ALOT OF PEOPLE...

REMEMBER THAT INDIAN WOMAN  PUTTING UP  HER YEAR ROUND HOUSE IN AN HOUR.....

Hunter and Wendy have been getting compliments on how much better they are doing from everyone at his Mema and Pops' campground compared to last year and how great Wendy looks. They have seen great growth in them as a team! She's not fighting him when he's walking towards the swimming area...yes he's been in the water and she was ok with it. Wendy heard thunder before anyone else and got up and she went in the water, just to her paws, to let Hunter know to get out. His Mema then heard some thunder and figured out what Wendy was up too and got the kids out.  It poured Sunday leaving Madi's recital and they did amazing...she even went through the puddles and weaved through the crowd.

Hunter can't wait until next year at school with Wendy because he knows how much she has helped him. We are so proud of them both!

Hi Carlene & the folks at SDP,  We just wanted to give you and update on Onyx.  Since the last time we wrote to you she managed to get herself sprayed by a skunk, it was bound to happen, but of course it was 10:00pm on Tuesday night.  This was a few months ago and she is still a little smelly in the face, but we love her just the same.  She spent more time then she would have liked in the dog wash down the street, so hopefully she won’t think the black furry thing is a toy again  J    She had her second visit to the vet, we are still taking her to the Danvers Animal Hospital, and it feels good to know that you trust them so much, so it’s a bit out of the way but worth the peace of mind.  Funny when we brought her in the man that saw her asked if she was one of Carlene’s dogs, she must have a look about her.  We went for a walk a month or so ago at the park we always visit and saw what I thought was another dog of leash, ended up it was a coyote!  Onyx is such a good girl though she came right to me when I called her and we turned around and went the other way.  We planted our garden a few weeks ago she was lots of help digging holes.  She brings such joy to everyone she meets.  She is such a wonderful part of our family, thank you again.  I’ve attached some pictures for you.

GIRAFFES------TO HAVE A 30 X 40 SHADED AREA IT JUST COMES THAT TALL-- I HAVE COME TO LOVE THAT SHAPE SINCE THE PAST WINTER AND WORRYNG ABOUT GRACE SHOVELING OFF THE T TENT.   PSE MUST LIVE IN THE SOUTH AND NOT HAVE THINGS LIKE SNOW TO WORRY ABOUT....I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO'S BARNS COLLAPSED WITH THE SNOW...   MY ORIGIONAL WOODEN ARENA DID COLLAPSE....THIS  FABRIC CONSTRUCTION  IS WPNDERFUL....  OUR ARENA DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ANY SNOW ON IT.

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY?-  IT GOES UP QUICKLY WHEN WE HAVE TIME TO WORK ON IT... AND WASTE OF MIONEY?  I PAID FOR THE ENTIRE THING ALL BY MYSELF--- AND IF I WANT TO HAVE A NICE PLACE FOR VOLUNTEERS AND GUESTS TO SIT AND RELAX IN THE SHADE, I GET TO DECIDE THAT..  THE T TENT IS GETTIN GCROWDED..  WE NEED MORE ROOM.... AT TIMES....PLUS  TEH COBBLESTONES TOUGH ON WHEELCHAIRS...  KEEPING VOLUNTEERS HAPPY IS TO  SDP ADVANTAGE-- IT WAS MY MONEY.

HOW ABOUT TRAINING DOGS?  THE BEST WAY I CAN TRAIN DOGS NOW IS TO  SIT IN THE COMFORTABLE SHADE AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS  TO MEGAN AND STEVE... WHO ARE VERY GOOD TRAINERS... WALKING   30 OR 40 FEET AT A TIME IS ABOUT MY LIMIT...

SO WE DON'T HAVE TO FAIL SO MANY???  PERHAPS THE WORD FAIL SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN USED... IT SOUNDED CUTE FABULOUS FAILURES-- ( ACTUALLY THAT TTERM WAS COINED BY SHEILA OBRIEN WHO IS THE ONE  COMING TO INSPECT FOR ACCREDITATION)  IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE HAVE HAD A FAILURE.-- SOME DOGS ARE BETTER AT SOME THINGS THAN OTHERS...  ALL DOGS FROM HERE GO SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY WILL BENEFIT NOT ONLY THIER OWNER, BUT  A BIGGER NETWORK... THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT THE TIME THE CAMERAS STARTED IN 2012.. WE WERE SWARMING IN PUPS...AND PEOPLE WERE PANIC'D  ABOUT TOO MANY...-- INCLUDING ME...THE LITTERS    CHAOS ANDJASPER   OLIVE ANFD WALTER  MOXIE AND BUMPIE PRODUCED A BUNCH OF  GREAT SERVICE DOGS BUT  I DID NOT PULL ENOUGH OUT FOR BREEDING...  BECAUSE OF THAT.... AND (BECAUSE  THE FEMALES I PULLED WERE A LITTLE SHORT FOR OUR FRIEND WALTER...)  WE NOW HAVE ONLY SCARLOTT'S LITTER--- AND HER DAUGHTER  MISCHIEF CAN NOT BE BRED TO BENTLEY( HER DAD) OR WALTER ( HER UNCLE)  WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR LEROY  -- ON WHOM WE HAVE TOO MUCH AT STAKE FOR MY LIKING...  I AM AGAIN LOOKING TO EUROPE FOR MORE GENES.
