MOXIE REPORT--- SHE SHOULD COME HERE A WEEK BEFORE HER DUE DATE... AND I THINK SHE WHELPED IN THE TV ROOM LAST TIME????

 

Hi Carlene and SDP Family,

Moxie is doing very well. She has put on a bit of weight and is round like she was before her last litter. Judging by the look of her five pairs of mommy-parts the cafeteria will soon be open for puppy meals. Moxie seems very content and relaxed and loves sleeping and eating noticeably more than when she's not expecting. She still has the energy to following us around the house night and day as we move from upstairs to downstairs and back again. Her nights are spent in our room on her cushion at the foot of our bed. If I go downstairs in the middle of the night for more than a couple minutes she comes down to check on me.

She's very energetic on walks and trips to the park and always on the alert for squirrels, but even more happy to sniff and watch for bunnies. Moxie has pretty much put her joyous sprinting around on lay-away until after the puppies are born. Even when Piper does her best to annoy Moxie, with her pestering-"Come on Mom, you want to chase me right?" Moxie just patiently waits for Piper to stop. But Piper being 7 months old is relentless and usually Moxie has to gently tell her darling 100+ lbs daughter, without a growl or snarl, to "Knock it off!" I wish I had such patience.

Most days she loves lounging on the sofa in the living room right under the window next to the front door steps where she is her typical alert-self whenever anyone comes up the steps waking from her sound puppy-growing-sleep. Then, she's up in flash barking her big warning bark at the mailman or the pizza delivery guy or anyone else that dares enter our domain. After a "Thank you Moxie, that's enough!" she curls back up into a too-small-for-her-size ball of fur and is quickly back snoring in slumberland dreaming of family hugs, playing with Bumpy, nursing puppies, or chasing bunnies.

we are all set for 2 mothers-- chaos has clearly  claimed the  one near the kitchen--- hopefully by the  time moxie whelps  chaos will be big enough to fend for themselvfes a bit.

i think just to keep the adults at bay  we need the fence across the kitchen door  so they can run in and outr the front door without poking their nose in chaos space.

 

that will also mean we need to find the 3' fence from tv room to the cash register  -- at least for th e  time being.  bentley has no manners and rushes in-- chaos might not like that...

it would also mean a couple of them could be on the sofa next to my computer... bailey's nose gets out of joint.

 

2 mothers have never been a problem... so far...  we have had 3 in this one area...

AND WHICH WAY DO WE GAMBLE.?   . I WOULD NOT BE THRILLED WITH 3 LITTERS OF 10 EACH..   WE COULD HANDLE 30 PUPS-- IT WOULD BE OUR BANK ACCOUNT THAT WOULD SUFFER.

IF WE KEEP THE FIRES GOING IN THE TRAINING ROOM AND GUEST CABIN WHEN NEEDED AND KEEP THOSE OIL FURNACES VERY LOW..IT WOULD HELP-- I THINK OIL IS $3.89-- WHEN I PUT IN THOSE FURNACES  THE KEROSCENE WAS $1.15 = AND IF WE RUN TOO MANY ELECTRIC HEATERS THAT BILL BECOMES HORRIFFIC.

Wow, time flies, been a year already. Just got home this late afternoon from one of my Grandson's birthday parties. Last year around this time I was worried how the dogs would behave, Tessa and Lily (my son's mastiff) now they've seen each other enough this past year to be good old friends both very well behaved and very careful and gentle as several 2 to 5 year old Children wandered around some having to look up at the dogs. (The parents and other Grandparents were noticeably much more at ease this year too!) Just a quick up date to let everyone know things are going fine here. Sincerely

back to animal discussions--

i think we need to worm the pups again.... they are looking a

little round-- as in belly's round --- and it has been ?3 ? weeks..

 

the reason i remembered  is.... i got tired of listening to the discussions about the vp debate and turned to the animal planet- the rest of the night was about all the things you can catch from an animal or insect related to an animal. starting with dogs..

and they make it sound so normal..-

some little girl with a nearly fatal case of undiagnosed  roundworms.  they decided she must have got them from the playground------ oh great....

hopefully not many people were watching that or they will form some committee toi outlaw playgrounds so they can turn them into apt buildings.

 

 if it is as common as that..... why are there not preparations lining the drug store shelves  to worm kids like you do animals.

------there are not many people  who have handled more animals and their various parasites than my children and i....and i don't remember any md suggesting that we be wormed on a regular basis. 

 

i have to admit-- in my child rearing days i got a note from some school nurse with a discreet message  "one of the children in your child's class was found to have nits."

that was all i needed-- i saw the possibilities  so we had nit killing shampoo and used it regularly.. probably my kids were the only ones  not to have nits.

 

but i never heard i was to worm the children too- and i am not sure why not...  they ate carrot out of th e garden... you wiped them off in your armpit and ate them... and peas -- well they were in their own little packets-- wehad a very fertile garden thanks to all the horse manure we added to the land.

 

from there the animal planet went to fleas--- and combination animals-- like fleas and rodents

 

that made me remember  probably it is time for gizzelle--- the rat who lived in our filing cabinet last year---- to come back in the  house for the winter... as i poured my cereal out of the plastic container which is kept on top of the refrigerator...... i again noticed the teethmarks she left there last winter.

 

and we have no more frozen rodents in the guest house  freezer-- george has an owl he is treating and we emptied the freezer for him.

but if gizzelle and all her relatives move in again ... we will get the snap traps out ( we do not use chemicals  which is why george wants them for his hawk and owl patients)  we may even have to rent kelly -- the jack russell from down the street.

it was fun to watch her chase the danes from her rat catching project...

 

nothing wakes you up in the morning like opening the file draawer and have a rat run across your lap.. 

 

healthy-- grain fed rats.. or at least dog food---

6 rats can easily  live off what 3 danes spill--

 

for those of you newcommers... last year i experimented with milk bones-  gizelle was making so much noise in the middle of the night .. i finally put 4 milk bones in the middle of the floor and watched as she  took them one at a time to the file cabinet at 2am.

  she was not a huge rat--- we had those too... and caught them-- we never had a small rat-- so she must be out there in the woods waiting to "go south" for the winter.\

now pregnancy... and chaos---

 

we set up a whelping pen in the tv room-- i use the  term whelping pen loosely--- our mothers seem to have pups all over the place which we then carry back to the lovely whelping pen.   many warm wet pups have we scooped out of the snow and brought them in to have her clean them up...

 

the problem is...... i don't think chaos likes the spot we have chosen for her-- but she has settled  by the kitchen next to the heater there-- so atho we have a lovely pen set up in the warm tv room, she has not gone near it--- and even slept by the kitchen last night... only coming in to the ty room to wake me and tell me

  1 she had to go out 

  2 she was hungery

  3 she was lonely

that 2 seater "love seat" size sofa is not big enough for her by now

 

lying flat she would  fill  the  regular sofa right next to the smaller one... but it is her choice-- so we have barricades to prevent her from rolling out onto the floor... she is a big gal right now.

so today will be furnature moving day once again... i think moxie had her pups in the tv room-- so we can just leave that there

2 litters at a time is not bad... 3 litters means we would have to move  theresa's desk onto the front porch..

we have a lovely fire going now that paul reminded me how nice that is -- and bud1 cut down that tree for more firewood....

place is warmer-- and smells better too.

and we have a marble slab for beef cutting in front of the fire--- all set for volunteers

OBVIOUSLY ---  WE MADE IT BACK...

 

 I WORRIED ALL THE WAY-- I AM NOT AN IDEAL PASSENGER IN A CAR

 

MEGAN HILLARY AND GWEN  MANAGED THE PUPS +  WALTER AND FIONA IN THE VAN #1- AND DESERVE GREAT PRAISE...

JADE.BUD2 AND GREG +SAMMY BAILEY AND INDY ( AND MYSELF) WERE IN THE SECOND VAN  ( RENTED ENTERPRISE YET TO GE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY..) 

=

THE USE OF CELLL PHONES GAVE US A CONSTANT VOMIT REPORT -- AND THERE WAS NONE...-- THO THE VARIOUS ODORS OF ALL THOSE DOGS IN A CONFINED PLACE WAS INTERESTING TO SAY TH E LEAST.

 

WE WERE ABOUT 2 HOURS AHEAD OF OURSELVES  BUT SET UP ION A CORNER WHERE ALL THE GUESTS HAD TO PASS BY  AND ALL WERE MOST INTERESTED IN TALKING ABOUT THE DANES...

MANY-- LIKE NEARLY ALL?  VETERANS THERE WITH LABS COMMENTED THAT THEY SAW THE VIRTUE OF THE BIGGER DOGS.. THE LABS WERE NOT ALOT BIGGER THAN THE 3 MONTH OLD DANES- AND OF COURSE 10 MONTH OLD  WALTER KNOCKED THE SOX OFF EVERYONE...

 

ONCE--WALTER  DID JUMP ( VERY QUICKLY STEP OVER) OUR 15"  BARRIER AND RAN INTO T HE COCKTAIL CROWD TO EVERYONE'S DELIGHT AS HILARY FLEW OFTER HIM AND GOT HIM BY THE TAIL.. BAILEY JOINED HIM TO KEEP TRACK  BUT QUIT AND TURNED WHEN I SPOKE TO HER.

OTHERWISE THE PUPS UNDERSTOOD THE FENCE AND STAYED  AND PLAYED INSIDE..  WE WERE RIGHT NESXT TO A DOOR OUT TO A PATIO AND GRASS-- SO IT WENT SMOOTHLY.  NO DISASTERS TO REPORT

 

SAMMY AND JADE-- AND BUD2 AND INDY REPRESENTED US WELL--- INDY OLDER AND MORE POLISHED-- SAMMY OFFERED TO PLAY WITH ANOTHER SERVICE DOG THERE-- THE OTHER DOG WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY BIGGER THAN SAMMY'S HEAD... BUT SAMMY DID NOT OFFER TO CHEW ON HIM.. THAT WAS A RELIEF...

 

AND WE WERE HOME SHORTLY AFTER 11.

LONG DAY

 

AND LONG DAY FOR BAILEY  WHO WAS SO TIRED AT THE END THAT SHE LEFT ME AND FOLLOWED GWEN WHO WAS LOADING THE VANS

WHEN I WENT OUT I WAS VERY GLAD TO FIND HER SOUND ASLEEP IN TH ECORRECT VAN--- SHE WAS SO TIRED SHE WOULD  HAVE CRAWLED IN ANY OPEN CAR DOOR.

 

THEY HAD A VERY LARGE SILENT AUCTION -- MOSTLY OF DONATED WEEKENDS ... TICKETS TO EVENTS ETC...

 

 

  PAUL EARLENE AND BUD1  MANAGED HERE VRY WELL AND BUD1 GOT THE WIDOW MAKER TREE DOWN ON THE GROUND.  A YEARS WORTH OF FIRE WOOD

GOT TO RUN AND RETURN THE VANS.... MINUS WHITE HAIR.... HOPEFULLY

CAROL CALLED  HAWKEYE IS DOING FINE-- I ASKED HER TO WRITE UP THE EPISODE AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE ABOUT BLOAT... FOR ME TO COPYY AND PASTE.

I WAS BEGINNING TO WORRY About having nothing to write in this fool DD\\

and then yesterday happened

 

megan and i set out to buy/ get estimalte on the chain link for "the house that jack built"    aka new deagle house.   i googled and called -- got an estimate from ne fence   -- and googled again for address-- same GOOGLE

different result-----  the fence company in woburn  was not the one to make these things up-- they install--and charge for that - THE PHONE  # I GOT WAS SAUGUS---

 

lesson of the day --- installing panels of chain link  takes 2 bolts per 2 panels-- and if you can't do that--- you should not be buying dog pannels because the dogs will outsmart you.

 

so we went to saugus -- pannels will be ready on friday---( that day when very many of us will be dragging around from being up aoll night getting back from the toh gala at about 2am... )

 

and as i handed the man the credit card-- megan's phone rang  -- theresa had a man with a big truck and pallets of dog food refusing to drive up the driveway

FREE FOOD !!

I SAID DON'T LET THAT MAN GO- GRABBED MY CREDIT CARD FROM THE FENCE GUY AND RAN FOR THE DOOR.  MEGAN HAD THE VAN HEADED FOR THE HIGHWAY

 

WE GOT HIM ON THE PHONE AND I TOLD HIM WE HAD 53' TRAILERS IN THERE ALL THE TIME( ONE BEING THE ONE I DROVE IN MY ANIMAL EPISODE LIFE)    HE WAS WORRIED  - APPARENTLY A FACT IF HE GETS STUCK IT IS A $500 TOW FEE-  FOR A PALLET OF FREE FOOD I SAID I WOULD RISK IT..-- AND IF HE WOULD WORK THE GEARSHIFT LEVER, I WOULD DRIVE IT OUT.   HE  SAID HE FIGUERED IF I KNEW ABOUT THE NUMBER 53' TRAILERS, I MUST KNOW WHAT  I WAS TALKING ABOUT.   

 

WHAT I DID NOT TELL HIM WAS SEVERAL 53' TRAILERS HAVE SLID OFF THE HILL  AND  GOT STUCK TRYING TO GET IN THE GATE-- AND ONE WE HAD TO  GET MASTERSON'S HUGE MACHINE TO GET HIM  BACK ON THE DRIVEWAY.

 

MEGAN DROVE  MUCH TOO FAST-- I WORRIED.. THERESA AND JACKIE HAD NEVER ARGUED WITH THAT ELECTRIC GATE- AND I KNEW PAUL WOULD BE UPSET IF WE CRASHED HIS LOVELY  GATE JOB.

 

LUCKILY-- RAY HAPPENED TO BE HERE -- HE -- RAY-- BOUGHT THE BMW- AND HAD 50 POUNDS OF HOT DOGS TO GIVE US..( HE IS KAYEM PRES/OWNER?)   RAY WAS USED TO THINGS LIKE BIG TRUCKS SO HIS ADVICE WAS VALUABLE=

 

SO WHEN WE FLEW IN THE DRIVEWAY  THEY WERE UNLOADING IT ALL INTO  T HE AMBULANCE.. BAGS IF DRY AND CANS---- LOTSA CANS---

WE WAVED GOODBYE TIO THE NICE FEDEX MAN-- AND I RAN FOR THE TRACTOR TO UNLOAD  SOME OF IT  BECAUSE THE AMBU  WAS SITTING ON THE AXLES-- SO HEAVY THE SPRINGS HAD QUIT...   BUT WE GOT IT TRANSFRERRED BEFORE ANYTHING BROKE.

 

ALL THOSE HOT DOGS ARE FIRST RATE  PEOPLE QUALITY NOW FROZEN IN ONE LUMP-- THAT CAN BE  CAMERA MARKS PROBLEM.

 

AND THAT WAS THE BEGINNING....

 WE STILL NEEDED TO GO TO HOME DEPOT TO GET THE WIRE SHELVING FOR TOMORROW'S TRIP TO NY WITH THE PUPS--, ORDER 2 VANS FROM ENTERPRISE, CHECK EVERYBODY'S RABIES PAPERWORK,  FIND THE FLOOR TARP ..   I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET THE ROVING CAMERA  CONNECTED TO JOHNATHAN   --- IN PREP FOR THE EXPLORE BROADCAST OF THE IMPENDING BIRTH... 

 AND THINGS LIKE THAT

HAVING STASHED LULU ON THE DECK--- I DID NOT  REALIZE SOMEONE HAD LEFT A PLASTIC BAG OUT THERE WITH A HUGE  PILLOW FILLED WITH BEAUTIFUL WHITE FEATHERS--

 

 SHE FOUND THAT VERY ENTERTAINING-- I CAN NOT DESCRIBE IT EXCEPT TO SAY THE FEW I DID MANAGE TO COLLECT FILLED A HUGE  BLACK  TRASH BAG--- THE REST ?? I CARRIED OUT THE DOOR IN MY HAIR AND STUCK IN MY NOSE...

KNOWING HOW DEVASTATING A BIRTH CAN BE ON  SOMETHING LIKE A FUTON,,, WE HAVE 2 FUTONS STORED IN PREP FOR "AFTER"  BECAUSE CHAOS IS HAVING  NOT ONLY PUPS   BUT A GALLON OR TWO OF GOOP-- THE KIND WHICH YOU DON'T TRY TO WASH THE TOWELS-- YOU THROW THEM OUT.

 

 TWO EXTRA FUTONS -PILED HIGH ON TABLES ETC  -- LOOKS STRANGE BUT WE HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE- THEY WILL BE NEEDED.

DEAGLE'S HOUSE IS LITERALLY THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT--- IT LOOKS  TERRIFFIC-- WHITE  WALLS ARE UP  READY TO DO THE  FLOOR.

 

IT IS SOOOO MUCH EASIER WITH A CONCRETE FLOOR PITCHED TO DRAINS  RATHER THAN  THE NUTT HOUSE WHERE THE WHOLE  WOODEN FLOOR TIPS.. THE NUTT HOUSE HAS NO TWO BOARDS THE SAME LEGNTH...

IT WORKS-- AND WAS A LEARNING EVENT.

 

TODAY I WILL ORDER THE CHAIN LINK KENNELS FOR THE NEW ONE.HAVING BUILT THE ONES FOR THE NUTT HOUSE-- I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN.. ALTHO WE HAVE PLENTY OF CHAIN LINK AROUND HERE( HOLDING DOWN THE SKIRTS OF THE ARENA)

 

DOG WISE== PUMPKIN IS WORKING WELL INTO MAJOR DISASTER'S LIFE - SHE CAN TAKE HER PERMANTLY ANY TIME AS LONG AS SHE COMES BACK TO WORK OUT ANUY PROBLEMS WITH MEGAN --

 

SIR THOMAS HAS SETTLED  AND THEY ARE PLEASENTLY WORKING ALONG..

JADE AND THE REST OF THE WORLD SAY IT TAKES 6 MONTHS TO REALLY GET IN STEP..

FIONA IS ON PUTTING ON TH E MILES NOW IN PREP FOR ASSIGNMENT .

YESTERDAY'S SH#TTING WENT VERY WELL--

THE WINNER BEING OUR LATEST RECIPIENT OF A DOG... MAJOR DISASTER..  YES---- SHE IS A MAJOR  AND THAT IS THE NAME SHE GAVE US/ AND WE USE...--  

 

THERE WAS A CROWD-- AND ALOT OF GOOD FOOD--  MARK GRILLED--- USUALLY I GET TO TASTE  EVERYTHING...  THERE WAS MORE THAN  I COULD SAMPLE-----  BUT I WAS STILL AT THE EGGPLANT  PARM AS A MIDNIGHT SNACK .----  I MUST SAY IT WAS A MORE HEALTHY COLLECTION THAN WE HAVE HAD IN THE PAST--( TIL YOU GOT TO TH E PUMPKIN PIE WITH 3 CANS OF WHIPPED CREAM.)

 

THERE WERE SEVERAL BRAND NEW PEOPLE --MOST FROM THE EXPLORE EXPOSURE-- IT IS ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH THEM RUN INTO A 750 POUND DONKEY RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A CROWD.

THIS IS ALSO WHY WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT PEOPLE WITH ONE OF OUR DOGS  MAINTAIN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR VETERNARY EMERGENCIES  --  WHEN YOU APPLY FOR A DOG-- YOU SHOULD  START THE ACCOUNT  A FEW DOLLARS A WEEK/MONTH// ---AND IF YOU GET A DOG  IT WILL BE YOUR OWN  VET  INSURANCE-- AND IF YOU DON'T GET ONE OF OUR DOGS-- YOU HAVE A LITTLE SAVINGS ACCOUNT.
