addendum to the flea report of  9/27

this DD goes so far that i do not want to mention brand names-- expecially when i have to buy the stuff....

everybody except  prego chaos got the 30 day type  and the 30 minute killer after which where the fleas did not drop off in a orgasmic ecstasy as dr bob anticipated... 

a careful combing of chaos produces 2 lonely fleas-- and no  colorful flea poop

a sampling to the others produced no fleas or red  flea poop.

once drowned in dishwashing solution  i unfortunately threw them out..

how foolish...

i should have sent them to dr.bob to see if one was a boy flea and the other a girl flea which could influience future studies...

 

so now the study reduces itself to--- i just spent over $500 on a bunch of chemicals when in 5 minutes of combing weekly reduced the number to a reasonable 2.   these danes have minimal hair  1/2 inch long 

continuing..... 5 min weekly-20 min monthly per dog...  30 dogs =600 minutes  =10 hours = $500 ************ that is a terriffic hourly wage*************

i already bought a bunch of flea combs  $1.98 each

hmmmmmmit is called "patting with comb"

*speaking of  money-- this bunch of people who now watch  th e camera  people  ( the CP) have started to show up on my lost of participants along with the regulars...

the sh#tting is tomorrow-- my part of it is under control ( the sh#tting part)  i don't know how theresa's live camera project i progressing.. now that we have wifi all over... could be we could have a live sh#tting tomorrow... --depending on the computers mood.

 

----- i close the online wall at 2:30  and  with the ringing of th e bell ----start putting numbers on the table at 2:45... releasing the hens at 3:00 shortest time has been 170 seconds  longest 8 minutes---  very productive hens...

and if any lay an egg while on the table there is an extra $50 added to the $500 reward for belonging to the club of SHATUPONS...

teepee project went well-- bentley and opal were to be  indian husband and wife -- but since bentley is an entire male and opal came in heat-- bentley just could not keep his mind on being an indian chief-- the only other harl we had was prego chaos--- who was happy to just lie next to the teepee regardless of what nonsense we put on her. ( DRESS-- BRAIDS-- BEADS)

IF I PUT A ROPE ROUND THE TOP AND THEN TIE UP THE BOTTOM SO THEY CAN'T REACH IT  MAYBE I CAN LEAVE IT THERE FOR A FEW RAINSTORMS--IT PROBABLY HAS A FEW DRIP HOLES ALREADY. THE CANVAS  IS  FRAGILE... -- THE POLES PASSED THE TEST OF ME HANGING  ONTO A ROPE IN THE MIDDLE AND NOTHING BUDGED

THERE ARE SOME VERY USEABLE THINGS--  ESPEDIALLY A MOTORCYCLE JACKET THAT COULD USE SOME MURPHY'S LEATHER CLEANER-- XL  FIRST TO GET THIS STUFF GETS IT.

 

I NEED TO GET THAT FLOOR EMPTY SO I CAN PUT DOWN VINYL- AND MOVE IN. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN HAVE NAY OTHER FLOOR WITHALL THESE DOGS.

fun on the  farm---  or-- more specifically----   life with a very pregnant great dane.

 

it has become obvious that my nights of sleeping in  my bed are gone-- probably for the next 2 months-

chaos'  snoring loudly is a very desirable thing-- it means she is asleep !

otherwise in a collection of wimpers , sighs,   toenail clicking, and barks she attempts to explain to me how she feels about her changing body.

 

you have heard of a three dog night ... well, before i finally gave up trying to sleep upstairs, last night  was a three towel night.

 

this house has a definite pitch to it...  any fluid placed on the floor collects in 3 places,,  well... 4 if you count under the refrigerator---except after extensive study the refrigerator was found to be hiding a leaky dishwasher- the other 3 are dog generated...

 on vinyl-- no big deal-- just more bath towels.

her vocabulary ?outside? she will either rush to the door, or drop her head  and stare at the 55 gallon food drum where she will eat about 2 cups of dry food, before she starts the whimper  "where's desert?"  and move her glance to the refrigerator... where a open can of dog food is kept. about 1/3 a can of that  and she will  turn around and say  "that water is not fresh.. i just tasted it"  so we do that --- and she  gives a "i feel better now" and go to the sofa in  the tv room and lie down

 

this is where the real conversation starts

 she does not fall asleep-- she wants company..

i got my book  (44 presidents or something)-- sat down to read--- and she not only wants company... she wants eye contact-

- because if i drop my  eyes to read, she wimpers-- i look up at  her- she yawns and stares eye to eye for a long time-- then stretches her jaw by yawning and wimpering... so i do the same..

that goes on  for 20 minutes-- and she will look at the door..   if i say ?outside? she will drop her gaze with a "no you dummy"

 so i started saying "?paul? and her eyes stayed on the door--    the only word i could think of to describe the situation was "WAIT" and her eye would come back to staring at me.

  now 7:30 and she is asleep  and i am drinking coffee

It has happened, Merlot has finally come into heat!!! Houston,!!!!   we have red spots on the floor!

red now +9 days = fertile== about the 14th  which is when chaos is due.

 

 will chaos have had her pups so we can make an informed decision about merlow?  if chaos has 13 it is not to  breed merlow.... but if chaos has 1 ( which she has done before-)- then breeding merlow becomes much more possible...

 

then  relate that to  the conditions of our finances-- how are donations doing...??

 

specifically has everyone bought their chicken number.. ??????

that chicken bit is not only th e  puppy food-- it is also a vote of confidence that we should continue along the path....

it is supposed to be a nice day.. so photo-william is coming  i am not sure when--

 

it started to be just the  teepee and dog  dinner shots-- but somehow it has become megan reading in a chair with bailey  on the window seat  behind--- and 2 dogs on chairs on the island... he has in mind aderondeck  chairs-- sounds good except dogs bodies are not made to fit into aderondeck chairs.

 

??? maybe lying down?? this is where it gets complicated-- the artist in him dreams up impossible situations-- where the animal handler in me dreams up very strange things he would think impossible  ( like the dog in the tree)

 

at any rate-- the teepee poles are up-- we have only to add the canvas- which has to be specifically wrapped around "the lift pole", tipped into place and unwound around the poles.-- it should be simple.. but i am not as agile as i once was..

Good morning,

Tommy has been many places in his first week: dentist (mine, not his), bakery, woods walk, yoga class, and a school auditorium. Despite the noises and smells at the dentist, he popped up only twice from his down stay. Good boy. He kept his focus with only a few reminders through the plethora of smells at the bakery and in the woods. Zonked out in yoga. The applause in the school auditorium surprIsed him the first time, held his interest the second. By the third, his head was relaxed on the floor.

He's been such a good boy, really trying. I strolled through town with him on a quiet morning. Good thing no one was around - it helped Tommy stay focused and no one saw my tears. I was so proud of him.

lesson of the day...

she who forgets to feed pregnant female will have to clean up yellow foam and then feed pregnant female...

danes in general need a pre breakfast snack

a hugely pregnant female definitely needs one

 

also a pre lunch and pre supper and pre bed snack

 

chaos is large... i forgot to take her on the post breakfast waltz in front of the cameras yesterday.. i will try today..

she seems fine-- just large--- and this last 2 weeks is when she puts on the weight..

oh boys now is when we start panicing that everything will be all right.

 

the only problem she had was a mastitis when the pups were 2 weeks old- but they were happy to drink from a bottle and quickly ate out of a dish ( off a spoon...) and she responded to antibiotics... on we go... we have no choice now....

 

to continue the theme of reproduction....

i have not heard from moxie lately--- she is due aboutr 2 weeks after chaos--

 

and then the rest....

opal began to show red yesterday red is not all that attractive to dogs... red discharge is merely a warning-----it is 9 days from now when the red turns to salmon colored that she is fertile... will stand still.. and is very insanely attractive to males.

other than getting loose from our "in heat cage" opal seems normal red stage.

 

scarl;ett will be going to the vets today with a bunch of dogs-- she seems to have skipped the red part and all of a sudden she is very attrative-- with no warning-- unless she has a vaginal infection-- which males also find attractive

 

 

go figure..

along with bailey's bumps , perry's anal glands, and bentley's nose we will be having lunch with george today.. oh he may a s well look at lulu's eyes--- tho i think i waited long enough on that so they got better by themselves..

it is eye infection season as flys flitter from eye to eye.

yesterday the "STUFF" arrived from australia-- the capstar- kill all fleas in 15 minutes and for 30 hours only -- and advantix-- shipped free and lower price.

with great anticipation we spread a white sheet on the floor and megan and i had lunch waiting for the hundreds of fleas to drop off dustin in wild ecstasy ... as repoorted by dr.bob..

we had one come to the surface of his hair and run in a circle only to be picked off by impatient megan.. after 30 minutes.. by the clock.. i resorted to a flea comb-- which does catch fleas -- and got only 3 normal looking fleas over the entire dog.

we returned him to the barn and gave everyone ( except chaos) a majic pill, gathered up the investagatory sheet and went back to work...

after the flea combing i have been doing--- the test bunch bailey luna opal and bently had very few fleas---if any-- after the pill .

i am not willing to make any statement-- other than the flea comb works- and costs $3.00 for 25 dogs-- the pills at the cost of $3.00 per dog did not make fleas drop off as advertised... we know--- we had a huge king sized white sheet-- and we got down on our hands and knees- wanting to find wildly dancing fleas in the process of dying./ it did not happen... but more combing produced nothing more...

that gives us no result-- either the comb was more efficient prior to the pill--- or the little buggers danced to death and clung to a hair in their ecstacy.

they will all get advantix today.

the only pure unadulterated flea carrying dog would now be chaos-- and i just combed her again-- i got no fleas---- alive or dead

i am reminded-- that comb cost $3.00 on ebay

a big supply of capstar and advantix set us back over $600. i am a little annoyed that i may have been trained to panic by the flea product selling industry.

we certainly have a fleas--- but of the house bunch 5 minutes of bonding while combing seems to have reduced - or eliminated the "infestation"

oh i know--- they will get them back from the sofa.s-- but if 5 minutes of flea combing while bonding does reduce the population of fleas-- i have to think about this..

to be able to say to brooksby village--" they are all on frontline--- or advantix" may have it's psychological merits-- but when it gets down to counting/ catching fleas...

for you newcomers these dogs have a coat 1/2 inch thick so it is very easily coombed

remember the topsfield fair is on--- go up rt 95 and back on rt 97 do not attempt route 1 it can be blocked for hours with people waiting to eat grease and sugar.

i must have slept well as i have nothing to complain about this morning.. and my only brilliant observation so far is  ...

"coffee will be extremely weak for those who forget to put grinds in the little bvasket"

 

  if that is the state of my mind.....i hope i am not asked to make any earth shattering decisions

what we did yesterday?

.... work on the santa shot for the calendar we are hoping to get out..

 

well..... my other brilliant observation from yesterday... is  how well educated bailey is--- and what a long way i have to go to get opal and bentley anywhere near her  capabilities..

. "just explain what you want me to do ... then got out of my way and let me do it."

she  carefully climbed the ladder to the wagon's seat-- then patiently  sat while we dressed her in santa's outfit-- then undressed her and politely walked down the ladder.. job well done--- no excitement-- no confusion

 

now bentley and opal are still in the stage of " are you talking to me???"

 

i hate to think of trying to do that with  another dog.  a good 5 feet in the air ---- perfectly relaxed and trusting us...

william decided we did not have to tip the ramp... so we were at least on the flat.. note a few things... hilary and megan are shoeless and confined to the white canvas... bonnie was in charge of rudolph's  red nose-- and getting it perched on perry's nose.

 the other huge excitement is that i heard from some pets megastore in australia who is sending the  de fleaing  supplies ..  they should arrive by 10/2 

that would be tomorrow---

 

why austraila?    on the advice of an adi member from australia, i started on allwormer- which at the time i could not get in the usa--  shipping is free-- and they have very good prices--  it becomes a memory thing-- i don't have to remember another name and  passowrd...
