goats--- who would think???  100 goats  and their chewing habits several months ago is what is saving the reagen library.---  they ate back all teh brush - i wonder how many goats  equal the effect of one fire retardENT  dropping helicopter--  like maybe 5 goats to one helicopter? - and teh goats have probably a 6 month effective retardent life.  makes you wonder why we challenge mommy nature with fancy store bought solutions... I BET HELICOPTERS WERE ON THE  LIST OF STUFF NEEDED FOR TEH LIBRARY BUT I BET NO ONE PROVIDED FOR THE GOATS-- WHICH ARE A BETTER  FIRE RETARDENT.

2 THINGS--- ONE BEING A STUDY OF CHICKEN WINGS....  EVERYONE GETS TO BE AN  EXPERT IN SOMETHING ...MY LOT IS CHICKEN WINGS-- 

I HAVE NOTICED THERE ARE 2 KINDS ----SKINNEY THIN ONES AND PUFFY MEATY ONES.... OF THAT I AM SURE- NOW... WHERE IS THAT DIFFERENCE PLAYED OUT?  MY OBSERVATION SEEMS TO BE THAT A RESTAURANT THAT SELLS BBQ WINGS ON A PLATE  WILL HAVE 6 WINGS ON IT. AND THEY ARE MORE BBQ  THAN WING.  BUT IT COVERS TEH PLATE.  NOW WHEN YOU GO TO  A PLACE ( SHAWS MARKET FOR INSTANCE)  THAT SELLS WINGS BY THE POUND-- THEY HAVE STUDIED "WINGS 101' AND FOUND THAT PEOPLE BUY FROM TEH "WINGS BAR" BY THE NUMBERS-- SO IF TEH PERSON BUYS 6 WINGS OF THE PUFFY KIND THEY WILL BE BUYING TWICE TEH WEIGHT OF  THE SKINNEY WING VARIETY.

I HAD A SECOND THING, BUT FORGOT IT... I KNOW FROM ALL THE POSTIT NOTES IN FRON T OF ME, I HAVE TO SPEND SOME TIME ON  EXPLORE'S MATCHING GRANT -- THEY ASKED ME FOR SOME DETAILS  SO THAT PEOPLE CAN GET SOME IDEA OF WHAT SOME OF THE EXPENSES ARE AROUND HERE... LIKE  LAP SITTING BABY GOATS, ORDERING AROUND 450 POUNDS OF GREAT DANE WITH EASE...   BUT SHE HAS NOT LEARNED THAT  STARTING THE DAY AT 4AM AND SHUTTING DOWN AT NOON, GETS ALOT MORE DONE  BECAUSE THE REST OF THE WORLD GETS UP AT NOON AND CLOGS TEH STREETS AND  STORES.

Just writing to give you a laugh.  Rizz and I were watching mail call on my tv last night, when she heard you praising Sizzle for getting a basket.  She got so excited that she started looking around the bedroom to find something to bring you too.  She found my bra hanging on the door knob, grabbed it, and raced up to the TV to bring it to you and when she heard you praising Sizzle the second time for “what a good girl” she was, Rizz wagged with her whole body in excitement, because she thought you were appreciating her gift of my bra to you 😊

AND WE JUST HAD  A LITTER OF PUPPIES CALLED THE TOTOS FROM OZ !  (I ALSO TOLD HIM WE HAD MARTINIs , ICE CREAM CONES ,COMETS ,  AUTHORS, MUSICIANS 

LITTERS ! )

marvelous machines these talking information globes are be they google or ALEXA..... -- the ones google donated  have  become a big item  in the adult day care project with judy and janine.. i ddon't know teh details of how--- but it is possible to show teh goldfish in australia and have someone ask "how fast does a goldfish swim"- not something either judy or janine can  have on the tip of their tongue... and  tehi magic box has the answer...  or rather--   AN --  answer--which is WHAT WAS NEEDED... ANY ANSWER.

sooooo...   i asked how much does a senator make in salary and benefits a year- alexa  just told me $18,000--   have big trouble with that answer....that is hardly enough to cover their traffic tickets....  but it was an  answer...

thus illustrating one of the big problems-- believing answers retrieved from teh internet...

it may work beautifully in an adult day care center to have teh answer " how fast does a bat fly?" getting any answer is teh critical part... whether the answer is correct- is a whole new ball game.

i think i heard this discussed on teh news... something about ? facebook? being required to test the validity of political ads on facebook? 

now there is a perfect example of a question with only one answer.." are you telling the truth?" 

as far as i can remember there were two topics about which one was expected to be untruthful- sex and politics.. that was always teh norm... and people were very suspect of any answers in either of those topics... to try and improve the PERCENTAQGE  OF TRUTH TELLING IN EITHER CASE GOES AGAINST WHAT WAS AN ACCEPTED NORM 50 YEARS AGO. I PUT EITHER LEGALITY  IN A SITUATION  OF "LOST CAUSE"

WHEN I COMPARE MY MEMORY TO... SAY MEGAN'S  OR MOST ANYONE'S ...  I AM WOEFULLY DEFICIENT.   I AM LUCKY NOW.. THAT I HAVE THE ESXCUSE OF BEING 82- ----- ALL TEH ADVERTISEMENTS TELL YOU ABOUT THINGS TO STOP TEH MEMORY LOSS OF OLD AGE. -- ALL THESE CURES ARE PUSHED BY A BUNCH OF VERY WIERD PEOPLE WHO DO THINGS LIKE STUDY TEH EATING OF JELLY FISH SO THEY CAN SELL  BOXES OF POWDERED  JELLYFISH TO  AN UNSUSPECTING  PUBLIC WHO MAY HAVE BETTER MEMORY BUT DON'T STOP TO WONDER THINGS--- LIKE HOW AND WHY JELLYFISH???

i am getting too sensitive--- it is tough to wake up to  a bunch of emails telling me all the things one or two of you are unhappy about.. namely how teh donkeys are forced out in the rain-- it is a lovely nice rain-- plus tehre is anotehr stall  behind that wall  you can not see with this camera.

 then a complaint about teh camera position not allowing a few inches and teh inside wall.

please spare me.... i am trying to maximize  everyone's camera "experience" and still get a full night's sleep.  let me phrase it this way... my sleep takes precedence over  anyone's concern about  not being able to see anything on TEH ENTIRE  craZY ACRES.  WHAT HAPPENS WITH CAMERAS HAS ALOT TO DO WITH  MY SLEEP---EXPLORE,--- AND VERIZON, PLUS HAVING TIME TO DO THE ACTUAL MOVING OF CAMERAS IN TEH FIRST PLACE.

I KNOW MOST OF YOU  RESPECT MY DESIRE FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP- AND MOST OF YOU HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS- THAT BIRDS IN THE BARN ARE A  NORMAL  THING

WHAT I HAVE TROUBLE WITH IS-- WITH  500 TO 1000 PEOPLE WATCHING I AM GOING TO HAVE ONE OR TWO THAT ARE EITHER UNHAPPY AND SURE WE ARE NEGLECTING THE ANIMALS -- OR THINK CRAZY ACRES CAN NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT THEIR  OPINION ON HOW THEY COULD  RUN THE PLACE BETTER.-

I NOW REMEMBER WHY I GAVE UP THE FILM BUSINESS...--   IT WAS INTERESTING  and an advertising video........WE GOT THE SHOTS ( TEH CRITICAL PART)  BUT I WAS VERY HAPPY TO GET IN THE CAR AND GO HOME.  MEATY STEVE WENT WITH ME-- HIS FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH FILMING AND WAS AMAZED TO SIT FOR 20 MINUTES WHIULE A WOMAN  CARVED UP A YELLOW HIGH HEALED SHOE-- THAT WAS TEH PROP FOR TEH SHOT WITH BENTLY-- WHO WAS HAPPY TO LIE UNDER TEH DINING ROO0M TABLE AND TRY AND GET THE PURINA CANNED FOOD OUT OF THE TOE OF IT.-- HE HAD TO CHEW-- THEN RAISE HIS HEAD-- NOT TOO DIFFICULT.. BUT THEN... THE DIRECTOR THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A SIMPLE MATTER TO HAVE A DANE WALK UP TO A KITCHEN COUNTER WITH HOT DOGS ON IT AND HELP THEMSELVES TO ONE OF THEM- WELL NOT FOR A DOG LIKE SIZZLE WHO HAS BEEN TOLD EATING OFF THE COUNTER IS A NO  NO-

THE DIRECTOR WAS SHOCKED TO  THINK I NEEDED ONE HOT DOG TO TRY AND GET HER TO EAT THEM- APPARENTLY  THEY HAD ONLY 6 HOT DOGS/WITH ROLLS... AND WANTED  5 OF TEHM IN THE SHOT-

TEH SHOT WAS SPECIFIC AND TEH DETAILS WERE HORRENDOUS.  ALONG WITH NO HOT DOGS FOR PRACTICE,,,,,,,

THIS WAS AN OLDER HOUSE-- GEORGEOUS ---NEXT BUILDING TO IT WAS IN ENGLAND--  HUGE-- HAD A WONDERFUL ANTIQUE BATH TUB  WHICH I KNOW I NEEDED TO FIND ONCE IN MY PAST CAREER

I ASSUMED BEING SO OLD THE KITCHEN  COUNTERS WOULD BEteh lower  28-29 INCHES TALL-- WELL THIS PLACE WAS MEANT FOR THE LARGER/TALLER  BECAUSE ALONG WITH 4 FOOT WIDE DOORS, THE COUNTERS WERE 36 INCHES-- AND ONTO THAT HTEY PUT ON E OF THOSE WOODEN CUTTING BOARDS ON "FEET" WHICH ADDED ANOTEHR 2 INCHES... NO WAY COULD SIZ REACH THE HOT DOGS WITHOUT PUTTINGHER FEET ON THE COUNTER-- BUT THAT WAS NOT THE" REQUIRED SHOT... "  SINSE HER FEET WERE NOT IN THE SHOT, I CALLED FOR And got "an apple" 

an apple in teh film business is a very storong box of reeguloation size with handle holes  maybe 8 x 12 x 20  maybe-

sizzle  had no trouble stepping up on th at box and certainly looking at th hot dogs- 

here is where i got bad...-- with much encoughment she knocked one onto teh floor-- now the director in an effort to preserve his 6 hot dogs grabbed it away from her- she looked at me like..   "i thought..."  so after that , she was really confused--- she would run up and get on  teh apple and look at me... not the hot dogs right in front  of her nose..  so we smeared tehm with purina canned food on teh off camera side  and she did slightly better-- but still avoiding teh hot dog and roll. finally she ate one- swallowing it  whole ( so teh director did not take it from her???) 

technically-- i was also the problem... because as she did teh first opart of coming around the tale and headding for the hot dog counter,, i said  "good girl"-- i shoujldhave said nothing-- because she got inthe habit of stopping where ihad said good girl.  looking back.... i think if i had just called her and said 

 "ok"  it would have released her from her "under command" type behavior..a nd she might have decided it was ok to eat the precious hot dogs.

mean whiloe jimminey and stitch had a fun car ride and lots of people talking to them out the back window-- we never did them- they certainly were puppies.. but they were bigger than the jack russell who likve there-- and teh  neighbor's pug who happened in.

 steve and i ate some of our earnings at the next mcdonalds where i got 4 plain hambergers so we could feed the 4  "working dogs" teh  meat patty and save teh rolls for peanut butter sandwiches fo r my next  lunch.

in retrospect.... on a movie set (  union job) no one is ever allowe to touch the animal or any of the animal props--  directors can get  very focused on teh needed shot and forget---- this guy was very lucky- with both siz and teh hot dog and bentley with the shoe full of canned food - he grabbed tehm away from each dog-- he coudl hav lost his arm,-- and it would have been the dogs fault. !!

i did a job once for houghlin mifflin school text book-- with a corgi-- and the director wanted to move the corgi over an inch- and did not ask her first so she bit  his thumb  badly !    it certasinly was not her fault--- i knew that dog-- wonderful dog -- did many great jobs  with  'connie the corgi"  i learned early with her-- you told her what was going to happen an asked her to  do things- if yuo behaved - she did-- otherwise she bit you..  not  a nip.... a  bite.  i had no problem with her...  i learned

FYI-- an apple is that sturdy box-- and a 1/2 apple is 4 x 12 x 20  --- a 1/4 apple is   2 x 12 x 20 and there is a pancake. 1 x 12 x 20  an absolute necessity   on any film  job .. along with a funny  duct tape  (? gaffer's tape?)that does not pull pain off where ever you stick it/-- and a kraft table for everyone  has doughnuts coffee bannanas, tyelonol  cream cheese and bagels.

a call late last night-- there is a filming  in mancheser today that wants 2 danes and 2 puppies...  which we do have

i don't do many of these any more-- but when they call for great danes and have check in hand i can not  refuse..

just as janine will still do horses and donkeys-- probably goats too by nowl

i am going to need help with 2 puppies..

 i will take sizzle and her 2 so maybe she can keeop them under control

i don't know what they expect them to do

i never do

 because whatever they expect 94% of teh time they change thier  minds...

megan woudl be better but she has otehr plans.

 so i aqm waiting for the first volunteer to come thru the door.... usually at 7...

HUGE SUCCESS WITH THE  ROADSHOW PROJECT--- I WENT WITH JANINE ( AS OBSERVER ONLY-- NOT EVEN BENTLEY AND SIZ) WHILE SHE GOT THE SMART TV RUNNING PERFECTLY--- WE HAD ALL THE DAY CARE PEOPLE SITTING AROUND ENJOYING THE EXPLORE CAMERAS--- TEH KICKER WAS, WE USED TEH GOOGLE "TALKING BOX"  TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS LIKE "HOW FAST CAN A LION RUN? AND HOW FAST CAN TEH BAT  FLUY?

TODAY SHE IS SETTING UP A SIMPLE WEB PAGE SO THAT BY MONDAY WE ARE EXPECTING TO GO TO 3 DAY CARE CENTERS...    SHE HAS IT WIRELESS-- BUT WHEN  WE TAKE DAUGHTER GWEN'S OBSERVATION INTO CONSIDERATION, I THINK THE  SETUP NEEDS TO BE WIRED... DUCT TAPE TEH THING TO THE DESK-- SO IT DOES NOT GET LOST AND RUIN THE PROGRAMJ...

THESE WERE 40.. PEOPLE WITH  LIMITED CONCENTRATION... AND I THINK  MOST  WERE ACTIVLY ENGAGED FOR ABOUT 1/2 HOUR AND WE LEFT IT ON THE AQUARIUM LIKE FISH CAMERAS  AS A SCREEN SAVER

THANKFULLY CUT AN D PASTE....

Hi Carlene.  Yesterday we had to go to upstate NY to take my mom for surgery.  Well, her procedure was delayed, which meant we ended up being at the hospital for nine hours.  I’m proud to say Bumble was his typical perfect self.  He was so very amazing navigating through the crowds, staying when told to and calming my mom’s nerves.  Staff was amazed at how regal and smart he was as he achieved boredom and hung out all day.  I handed out many of his business cards, which direct people to your website.  A few people in the waiting room immediately went on the cameras and oohed and aahed over Paula’s puppies.  My wife was telling a few very interested people about chicken bricks.  We hope they buy some!  Nine hours at the hospital surrounded by strangers was not hard at all for me but before Bumble is was impossible.  Not only does he help me do everything physically but he really eases my fear of people. I could not have survived yesterday without him.  I would have had to just leave my mom and wife there and go hide at my mom’s house.  You have all changed my life.  I cant thank you enough.

a problem job for me would be one where you have to sit and stare at a boring repetative thing just waiting for the instant when your attention would make a big difference... case in point- around here---  staff fills out an overnight sheet to say what dog is where- for alot of reasons- one of which is someone visually checks each dog in their kennel before we close teh place for the night.. this also gives us a check on who did an overnight with a volunteer---  teh overnight paper has been filled out religiously for a year.... until.......

last night- a 10 pm phone call from  vanessa saying big noise in the barn.. thinks a dog is loose.. overnight ( heather) goes down to check- everything looks ok--i go back to bed and jody calls "i saw him-- a loose  black and white dog"  well --- black and white???  that narrows it down to 50- back to the camera- and i did see him at thebarn door - he was not there a few minutes earlier because he was demolishing the trash in the t tent. so heather opened the barn door and shut it behind him-- it took a few minutes to have him come up to her--  he was confuased..  SHE HAD A HUNK OF ROPE TO LEAD HIM TO THE HOUSE..... IN SPITE OF TEH FACT I MAKE DOZENS OF THOSE ROPE AND A RING  LEASHES... THERE WASN'T EVEN ONE EMERGENCY LEASH  BY THE FRONT DOOR.  BUT SHE HAS HIM-- HE IS INDEED BLACK AND WHITE !

SHE BROUGHT HI O THE HOUSE AS I JAILED PAULA IN WITH HER PUPS.... ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SPECIMIN OF A DOG-- BLACK AND WHITE !!!  MATURE DOG..  BUT WHO????   PAM CALLED WHEN SHE SAW HM ON CAMERA AND SAID IT WAS BEAR... A QUICK CHECK OF TH OVERNIGHT SHEET AND WE COUL D PUT HIM BACK  IN HIS KENNEL-- EXCEPT--- NO OVERNIGHT SHEET--

PAULA IS NOT THRILLED TO AVE  THIS INTRUDER ANYWHERES NEAR HER DOMAIN-- WHICH BY NOW SHE LIKES TEH BIG SOFA  NOT THE LITTEL ONE BY HER PUPS...  BEAR IS SOOOOOO HAPPY SOMEONE FOUND HIM- BUT HE IS NOT SURE ABOUT THIS SOFA BIT AND IS SLEEPING ON THE KITCHEN FLOOR.

IN THE LIGHT OF DAWN, I WILL BE ANXIOUS TO SEE HOW/WHY  HE GOT LOOSE--- I HOPE THESE DOGS ARE NOT STARTING TO JUMP THE 6' HIGH KENNEL FENCE WHICH TEH DEPT OF AGGRI SAID I MUST HAVE...   IN THE PAST,  SEVERAL OF INSPIRED STUD DOGS HAVE CLEARED TEH 6' EASILY...-- IT IS ALOT CHEAPER TEST OF THEIR HIPS THAN AN XRAY....

 this is a true goldie moment--- daughter gwen's college friend  bob-- now retired from  ?professoring?  has taken up fancey wood working-- i have one piece of reallty really really  fancy wood-- a back scratcher-- which she tried and admired- and suggested i send it to bob to look at and return,,, which made me rremember the veteran  who gave it to me--- i dug around in our files and tried to make contact- and got a response....

DEL WAS ONE OF  THE FIRST VETS TO WHOM WE GAVE A DOG...  WAY BACK- AT THE START- IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR  "THE TOWER OF HOPE"  $50K GRANT, I HAD TO COME UP WITH VETERANS.... AND WE DIDN'T HAVE MANY AT THAT POINT...  SO I WAQS THRILLED TO HAVE DEL EVEN TAKE ONE OF OUR DOGS.... AND THEN  HE GAVE US THE PHOTO OF HIM RAISING THE FLAG FOR THE TOWN--- A PHOTO WE USED FOR YEARS---( AND I NOW MUST FIND... FOR COURTNEY!!)

Dear Service Dog Project Staff,

      My name is Karen . My dad, Dell , was paired with Georgia about 9 years ago through your organization. My dad has multiple sclerosis. When he got Georgia he was still walking. He proudly told everyone he traded a cane for a Dane. She kept my dad walking far longer than doctors ever expected. More than that, as my father lives alone, she has been his best friend. 

      For the past couple of years my father has had to completely rely on his wheel chair, but Georgia was consistently and reliably by his side at every moment. This past spring my dad took a fall in the bathroom with the door closed and Georgia on the other side of the door. To make matters worse, the power went out. My father was in the floor and freezing for close to 26 hours. A neighbor came by to put his newspaper on the doorstep as he does every morning. Instead of ignoring the neighbor as she usually does, Georgia barked wildly and jumped all around instantly alerting the neighbor that something was wrong. The neighbor made his way in, found my dad and was able to call for rescue. My father ended up hospitalized for close to 4 weeks. He returned home with Georgia and many extra safety measures installed. I have no doubt that if had been on the floor much longer he wouldn’t have made it. 

    She is a true hero and a blessing to our entire family. She’s 10 years old now and we know her number of days left with Dad are few. When she leaves there will surely be a huge hole left behind that will never be filled.  We will always cherish sweet Georgia her act of heroism and her dedication to our dad. 

      Thank you, Service Dog Project, for all you’ve done for my dad, all of your current recipients and all of the people you are continuing to bless.

 talk about worthwihle things to get upset about----i hate this time zone bit...... WHO DECIDED EAST COAST TIME ZONE WAS DIFFERENT THAn mountain or paciffic?   and why?

they( news)  say every mnorning  it is 5am in the east,,,,-- well it is 5am in the west too-- but we chose to call it by a different number JUST BECAUSE TEH SUN HAS NOT GOT THERE YET??? .-----data/tickets/news wise  it would be so much easier if new yorkers enjopyed sunrise at 6:30 am  just after teh sun came up and ate breakfast at 8:00am   while people in calif  would set their alarms for  sunrise at 9:30 and have breakfast  at 11:00am 

when i was in scotland ( the land of some really independent thinkers) some individual places  refused to acknowledge daylight saving- and called it "daft" time--- which led the outer  isles to have 2 hours change in daylight which they then called DOUBLE DAFT TIME.  now try and figurE out how AND WHEN YOU CAN GET ON THE 11:00 BUS TO EDINBURGH?

 EVER SINCE TEH CAR BEGAN TO DECIDE WHEN TO DO WHAT, I LOST INTEREST ( AND ABILITY) TO  MANUAL DO ABOUT ANYTHNG WIT IT.  IT WAS NICE TO HAVE GWEN VISIT-- SHE FINALLY GOT THE BACK WINDSHIEL WIP-[ER TURNED OFF-- IT HAS BEEN ON FOR A WHILE...

Pictures below are of Rizz and I at yesterday’s Petoberfest event, which had over 700 dogs in attendance.  As you can see, Rizz has NO issues with other dogs.  She also had to deal with the thousands of people, barking dogs, and children in attendance - as always, she was a perfect example of the well trained service dogs produced by SDP.  Due to her modeling skills, we also sold lots of products and made $120 for SDP which I will be sending at the end of the month in addition to  what we make at next weekend’s event.

I am so glad you took a chance on us - hope you are too!

quick run to the airport for the 12 seater van ( from hertz) for tomorrows ROAD SHOW PROJECT with the google team  and professor(s)   i gave up on "excedrine car rental" company- i can't remember their name i--- it begins with  E and was such a headache all i can think of is excedrine for a name.----\hertz is not without annoyances---  i called...  .. wanna rent press1 --- next question ..  are yo over 55? press 1--and it started-- "have you tought of a lifesaver button to push in case you start having a heart attack-- the symptoms of which i would like to list ofr your......." and it went on and on..so i hung up and screamed obsentaties for at leaSt 14 minutes.... before i realized i coudl call back and say no.. which got me to a hertz person who easily booked a van for me to pick up at teh airport this morning. HAVING A HANDICAPPED STICKER, I RARELY HAVE TO PUMP GAS-- SO I WAS UNAWARE OF THE TV SHOW AT THE GAS PUMPS... THAT WAS AS BIG A SHOCK AS BEING INVADED WITH COMMERCIAL WHEN TRYING TO RENT A CAR.-- THE PACKAGE TAPE ON THE AMAZON PACKAGES NOW HAS COMMERCIALS ON IT.. IS THERE NO  OPPORTUNITY  LEFT TO LOAD UP  WITH AN  ADVERTISING  OPPORTUNITY?? TOILET PAPER???? **** AND THEN THERE IS  THE RAISING OF CHILDREN--- YESTERDAY-- ON THE WAY TO THE PUB FOR LUNCH-- WE PAASSED A VERY EXPENSIVE PLAYGROUND WITH  PLASTIC SHIPS, SLIDES  AND SWINGS - NOT ONE KID  ON THE ENTIRE 3 ACRES OF PLAYGROUND THERE COULD BE ALOT OF REASONS....  THE BIGGEST WAS RIGHT UP THE STREET WHERE TEH FARMERS MARKET WAS GIVING HAY RIDES PULLED BY A TRACTOR-- AN INACTIVE FUN ON THE FARM DAY FOR PARENTS AND KIDS TO GET THE "FEEL OF FARMING"  WHILE SITTING ON A WAGON--  AND TEH FARM HAS TO IMPORT A PLANE LOAD OF IMMIGRANTS EVRY  GROWING SEASON TO DO TH E ACTUAL  WORK...  ( FACT --THEY ALL GO HOME IN THE FALL) I COULD ONLY WONDER HOW MANY OF THAT WAGONLOAD OF PEOPPLE WERE ON THEIR CELL PHONES AT THE TIME...( I LIKE IMMIGRANTS--- I LIKE MY CORN AND SOME VEGGIES)  **** ONE OF THE FIRST DOGS I PUT  OUT WNET TO A WOMAN WHO BROKE DOWN WHEN HER NEW DOG GOT HER  UP A  4 INCH CURB TO GET TO THE SUPER MARKET. SO MANY TIME I PUT IN HERE WHAT WONDERFUL THINGS THE DOGS DO... AND I GOT THIS EMAIL MAYBE IT WILL MAKE YOU AWARE OF THE  TINY  ANNOYANCES SOMEONE HAS TO DEAL WITH  WITHOUT A DOG. ** Elvis says it all for people like her human, so many others including myself! Example,my husband is unwell this week pulling a muscle I needed some items at a store which had no scooters or buggy's to lean on, they had for baskets with a handle and wheels where everyone was too busy to help so using my under arm crutches trying to pull the basket to collect my items now trying to handle 3 things and no balance falling once and finding a hand to pick my items up and put into the basket while trying to hold 2 crutches and a handle to the basket in one arm and hand, then switching the one crutch back to the free hand continuing to pull basket with hand and crutch to check out. I use crutches underarm on these days to rest on when getting tired but a scooter is necessary for shopping.  Sometimes there are no scooters so I take a buggy to lean on putting my crutches inside the buggy and lean on it to free a hand to pick things up (which makes me very tired). Anyway, I had a scooter going along by myself picking up my items when another guy passed me on a scooter who appears younger and I said hello as I do everyone. We made a few comments as I moved on to my chores. During my shopping  this man kept showing up in front of me causing me to stop! He kept trying to talk with inappropriate conversation, I began by ignoring him. Twice he showed up running into me from behind and I was now getting very uncomfortable. I checked my things out and leaving the store he is now in a truck waiting outside sitting where I had to roll past him as he now wants to know if I had a light? I again ignored and very frightened! Using my crutches trying to put things in the car to leave ASAP I fell twice trying to get back up as this man is sitting in his truck watching me. This was so scary I wasn't on my game getting the crutches and myself into the car for safety. I locked my doors and called my husband and said "I've hit an all time low being hit on riding a scooter, falling 3 times, trying to control 2 crutches pulling a basket on wheels behind me and now a full car that needs unloading.    Husband I am too tired to cook -----I'm bringing drive threw food home! No one can ever imagine how difficult the simplistic things they do are the most difficult things for a person who has no balance and some days just too weak to walk far.      Elvis and SDP a job well done! ****** It has been such an honor to watch Chip shine at SDP!  He is taking his role of "treat giving" to the dogs very seriously! He had been independent and driving himself but in August he had an accident and is no longer driving - so I have been taking him multiple times a week... consequently I have fallen in love with your dogs!  If there is a waitlist for dogs that do not work out to be service dogs could you put me on it?  I will be back next week with Chip! �� Sara  NOW IF SOME ONE WOU DL REMIND ME  ...

CAKE DAY-- AND I ALREADY DELIVERED MINE TO GEORGETOWN. ( BETSY DOES IPSWICH)  

I HAD A NOTE FROM ELVIS--- THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKER THAT BETTER THAN MY RAMBLINGS

My name is Elvis and I’m a service dog. 

My human came to the Boston from England for medical treatment in 2016. She expected to be here for no more than eight weeks; now, over three years later, she lives full-time in Boston.  She has a complex medical history including dystonia/muscle spasticity, which means that she walks differently than most people. Until I came into her life, she used a wheelchair or crutches for movement. 

 I was born and raised at the Service Dog Project in Ipswich, MA. I was trained as a mobility service dog and was donated to my human in May 2018. I help her walk, balance, and navigate the world. Since I came into her life she has been able to put her crutches and wheelchair away for the most part, although when she does need her wheelchair I am also trained to pull that! She always tells me how much freedom I have given her. Before me she avoided a lot of things. When she came to a set of steps, she was frightened, knowing she would likely fall. When she slipped and stumbled, she often found herself stuck on the floor with her crutches, unable to get up.

Since I came into her life, we take on steps without a doubt. I stop numerous falls, supporting her when she stumbles. If I am unable to stop her from falling, no matter how hard I try, I am right there to get her off the floor. My human often tells me that it is the little moments that make her smile every day. These are simple freedoms like knowing she can step up onto the curb while walking down the street, or grab something off a shelf without losing her balance. I am always right by her side, and if she loses her balance, I’m there to catch her. When she becomes very dizzy or ends up passing out, I am there to support her. I know my human inside and out. I know the days we can play around and the days when I need to be more focused on keeping her safe. I brace to keep her upright, lay under her legs when she is unconscious, and do all I can to support her. I am basically a moving crutch with four legs and a huge heart!

We have been through numerous hospital admissions, surgeries, and emergency room trips together. No matter what situation she puts me in, I am always there to help her navigate the world despite her chronic medical conditions. We have ups and downs, but stick together. For instance, at the beginning of this year my human was really not well at all. Through a long hospital stay, I made sure I slept at the end of her bed every night. I helped her take her first steps during the really tough moments after her surgeries. While I was trained specifically for mobility, during the time we have been a team, I have learned how to read her other medical signals. I am now very in tune with my human. I tend to notice when she is feeling off before she does. Sometimes I can tell that her blood sugar is off, or that she is having a bad mobility day, or that her cardiac issues are acting up. I make sure to tell her when things are off. In this way, I have saved her from getting very sick or hurt multiple times. 

I’m not sure people always realize how important I am to my human and how much I have changed her life. I have prevented multiple emergency room visits, concussions, and injuries.  Perhaps even more important, I have allowed my human to grow so much more confident about living life despite her medical challenges. I have helped remind her that she is so much more than her medical conditions, no matter what they try throwing at her. Looking back at our time together, it is incredible seeing all the achievements she has accomplished with me by her side. I also know that her friends and family are so grateful that my human can live life independently now that she has me. She can have the life she wants, because she is never alone. I always keep an eye on her.

Balancing school, health, an internship, and life can seem quite challenging at times, but we embrace every moment. We made a promise to ourselves to live life to the fullest, make the best memories, and pursue our goals without looking back. My human also has some incredible doctors that helped inspire her passion to work in medicine. (Not that she needed much pushing! She has been known to take her finals in the hospital the night before surgery.) She just loves to help people, especially children, in any way she can. In fact, we both love volunteering with kids. Before me, she couldn’t do this volunteer work very often because of her mobility challenges. Now, we do it together all the time. 

I would be lying if I said there weren't any moments where my human’s health scares us! There are definitely tough days, especially during hospital stays. Through it all, however, she has a determination that never seems to fade. She says that she couldn’t do it without me or the support system she has built. We help her “just keep swimming”, a saying that she holds on to in those tough moments. We always keep swimming, no matter what life throws at us, together. There’s another saying she says a lot, which I like. When people doubt her ability to pursue her goals, or try to put limits on her, she says: “Just because my path is different, doesn’t mean I am lost.” We walk through the world together, and that might seem different to some people, but we are definitely not lost. While we never expected our journey to look like this, we know we are exactly where we need to be.

quick doggie ..

gwen's roadshow input  pertaining to operating teh smart tv's and related equipment-- typed by her ( probably spelled correctly0

Part of the planning for the senior center road show, the thing to get the explore cameras going on the smart tv's, needs to include a plan for the next day. The day after these things get up and running, the shift will change, a new person comes along and moves the google device to the side. Now it's out of range and can't reach the wifi. So it doesn't work that day. The next shift comes in and does not know what the thing is, and puts it in a drawer and everyone forgets where it is. Is it battery operated? That means it's not tethered by a cable and can wander off. Are there buttons and settings that can accidentally be changed? And only 1 person who knows how to operate it? They will then proceed to go on vacation or go have a baby, and no one else will be able to get the thing working. Are the instructions documented, on a piece of laminated paper hanging on a hook in the office of the activities director? Maybe those directions need to be attached to a giant piece of wood, kind of like the key to the bathroom at a gas station. And when it does get lost, or spilled on, the activities director needs to be able to print another one. Stuff like that. There is a maintenance piece to this operation that also needs to be addressed.

it is the area between the guest house and puppy hill-- needs a 6' fence between  and then the goats can climp that steep mess of tangled vegitation- and hopefully eat it.

 creativity !  as in that TED  lecture by ken robertson ( google it i have said beopfer -- should be read by anyone trying to raise children-- or grandchildren...) as we go around to set up these adult day care centers in a variety of financial levels-- i find--- some of teh most financially challanging adult day care centers are so much better off than the  day cares in the very wealthy community- and alot depends on teh"  get up and go"  of teh activities director- THE EXPENSIVE ONES HAve teh moen y to hire  people with the correct degrees..... they know alot of big words...

 i don't want to poo poo  higher education  (HA ! )  but tehre is one  cheerful place where tehe activities director is a hot spook- with a ready laugh- very observant and does not miss a thing.-- how lucky they ar to have her--- and i wonder if they know that she should be making twice teh salary of teh  double degreed person who needs to fill in teh littel boxes of hte calendaR tO keep the directores happy aT THE NEXT MEETING.

THIS CONCEPT IS WHY-- I THINK-- ALL THSES PLACES HAVE THESE "SMART TV" S THAT ARE MORE FOR SHOW THAN USE...  THEY SIURE LOOK GOOD--- THATA BIG BLACK RECTANGLE ON THE WALL-- THAT NO ONE USES--

couple   CP people are trying to locate a litter of blue danes-- there is sch a thing... blue is recessive so if both parents are blue- you will have blue pups.     that could be fun-  there is a "black out of blue-- where you might get some blue---  paula is that kind of bloodlines..

 but since we import the stud anyway- i see no reason not to try for a blue stud--  migh make for some intereisting color  harlequins-- but we don't really mind-- must be a darn good blue-- probably from germany -- so we don't run into the rabies law that makes yo ship aq pup to spain to get to boston.-- like we had to with terichard-- from czech--  

so have at it everyone--  i would rather get a german pup than an akc one-- since the blue is

recessive-- i don't think the akc has as much a vaRIETY OF BLUE-- AND TOO MANY BREED RELATIVES TO GET THE COLOR.... TEH DEUSCHE DOGGEN ( GERMAN REG)  IS A BIT MORE COMPLETE IN THE HIP EXRAYS ETC...  SO IF YO FIND A NICE BLUE PUP-- PR A BREEDING ABOUT  TO HAPPEN .. LET ME KNOW.

OUR ROAD SHOW IS GAINING MOMENTUM-- WELL NOT MOMENTUJM BUT MORE PEOPLE-- NEXT MONDAY 2 TECHS FROM CALIFORNIA, plus  ONE PROFESSOR FROM MICHIGAN ( STUDYING THE PROBLEM) JUDY JANINE AND ME--  PLUS BENTLEY AND SIZZLE WILL BE OUT GO AROUND TO TRY AND SET THIS UP.. WHILE WE RIDE AROUND IN THE CAR, WE CAN DISCUSS WHAT AND WHY- WHICH MEANS I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO RENT A VAN FOR  TEH -- AT LEAST 7 PEOPLE AND 2 DOGS. AND MAYBE GET BUD TO DRIVE IT????

GOLDIE IS ON IT - JUDY AND I WENT TO COSTCO TO SIT AND EAT ( WHILE WAITING FOR A DOG TO GET BORED,,,) DARNED IF WE DON'T SIT At a table with an aquaintance of bill cummings.- this whole road show is something which hopefully will attract his financial interest -  there is a huge problem of generic boredom-- how fascinated can you be in puzzles for hours on end..   there are ways we can make this live...

couple  concepts -- having pups "worked" in teh arena on some schedule....  activity directoea can call the office and have some one wave gave a bunch  of inmates gives  a huge boost... and  we could do that on a mass  schedule by just sitting a white board in the corner of the screen with a time on it rhAt we will "respond"  with waving....  -- 

i hate to tempt fate.... but....   

 teh fry pan  is  an absolute brilliant concept  for animal interaction... my only accident in 20 years  was a woman who's foot got scratched by a dog toenail- what a fuss "bitten by a great dane"  was the story.. ! so this 10 " fry pan maneuver  keeps teh dogs toenails back 10 inches while their head is pattable and photographableas they eat teh cookie dropped in the pan 

 there are things like  having no collars or leashes is because in these places sometimes inmates "grab"  -- and or collars can be hooked on wheelchairs-

 give me 2 days and i bet i could have a donkey or two nursing home proof.   mary was---  duct tape on her feet  she was loose in the assisted living place to the delight of everyone.  i hae more faith in donkes than horses-- even tho mini horses get the press- they are still horses.  donkeys are more like dogs..  they think-- which can be good or bad.   obedience trained like a dog , teh donkey will become an obedience trained donkey,

been there done that...

back to the road show--- there are 2 varieties of facilities --  walk-ins... and... lock-downs from there the range is   very commercial- keep them  clean-dry- fed-- to the  " at 2:00 there will be a piano player in the atrium" 

one has a much bigger budget than the other..- i have not collected  stats on daily cost-- because  this concept is - hopefully a free/ non commercial one.

i have  much paperwork to do.-- i find "companies"  own strings of these- and not all are licensed/ reg with teh state--  at least that i hae found so far..  i keep thinking i have stuck teh master list only to find a place that does not "belong" tehre.

most notably-- today i am going to a  place that says they have adult day care- i know that  address  -- it is a  simple church-- and i don't see where they have  any careing for adults-- no one answers their phone-- you get teh "i am so glad you called..." bit. 

i need to figure that one out...  if it doesnt sound like a duck... then it probably is not a duck.

or somethign like that.

LOTSA MELATONIN RESPONSES- HERE IS A GOOD ONE..

I have been using melatonin for years. I prefer the sublingual, that is you let it dissolve under your tongue. I buy 2.5 mg tablets and cut them in half. I rarely take a whole one. With the halves I often taken a second half later in the night if I wake and can't get back to sleep.But I have had bad nights where I took a whole one to start and one or two halves later on. My doctor said no more than 10mg per night and I have never needed that much.  I think 5mg at one time is probably overkill. Melatonin is notorious for vivid dreams. Mostly now I don't remember them in great detail. And I have gone days without taking it, so it is not addictive. It's been very helpful overall.

• Last night's tv-- a special on teh zanax  valium crisis..."Benzodiazepines are the second-leading cause of prescription drug overdose deaths after opioids----- " they had actual victums-- who were people who started on the tranquilizers and found they could not get off them- doctors just kept refilling the script. one of teh biggest pitches was-- don't try and just stop without help----- the news article showed people who had formed group-s in hospitals to try and reduce/stop taking them--  it is not a simple matter --- one woman was tryjng to reduce her intake 1%  a day-- and that was extremely difficult.. suicide is happening...
• this after i  asked my primary care for some advice  for insomnia-- and she suggested melxxxxx whatever as harmless -- over the counter- i mentioned this to judy ( super sunday cook of fattening deserts) and judy told me she tried melxxxxx  once and in the morning her feet were on teh pillow, head over teh end of the bed and no idea how she got that way.  that did not stop me - i figured a fluke--- so i took 5mg last night- and  at midnight i was in a courtroom with a judge - in black robe-  being tried for  espionage -- teh courtroom was divided like you do at weddings with teh brides family on one side and grooms family on the other-- i am happy to announce all my cp friends were on teh left side-- and when asked to sign a statement to the fact that i did not have time to plan any espionage-- every one signed a piece of paper with all different colors of ink..   inspection of my messy car got in it somehow... 
• so whatever that stuff is... it is not trouble free... and over the counter.  if i try it again , i might try breaking it in half  -- maybe  2.5 mg would be helpful./
• i do feel relatively alert today--
• but that is like the age old question "do you tell the truth?"   there is only one answer to that question.  i might be so encumbered that i don't know i have gone round the bend... 
• maybe  roadshow judy  ought to drive today.   we  are needing to actually go round to the places we intend to take teh google techs--  tehre is a huge difference between adult day care-- senior centers, ---assisted living --and nursing homes. it is the lock on the door.    day care and nursing homes you are locked in. even visiting those places i have a problem with that... you need a password to get out... and my experiences with passwords is not a successful one.  i can see a fire breaking out and the little button thing saying "  please enter your childhood friends name, and i will  send your password   to  the  governor of  Hawaii" 
• i was all organized with 6 places to take the google bunch-- wheen i began to find out  there were "strings" of ownership[- so to get a variety of places to go, we need to do a bit more investigationg..  there is also a big difference in th prices charged for the day care-- some i would happily move into tomorrowe-- with my 61 danes---   the otheres i have trouble even visiting...  so we need to get a variety.    and get permission to  try this getting explore cameras on the smart tv's that are sitting around  not even turned on.
• what is also amusing is ont of teh places is sponsored by teh cummings foundation-- from whom we would love to get  sponsorship ourselves...-- and i considered approaching for  "IT  " help---

You are spot on...I didn’t realize just how uncomfortable my upper body was using the forearm crutches until Bellow and I were matched.  With Bellow, I am able to walk more in a natural position vs. the crutches which just helped me walk albeit out of proper alignment.

well done-- a good night's sleep !!

 janine's idea of a donkey blocking the off cameraq area  a worked fine-- 

outta teh box--- every time.

a good night's sleep is an idea generator-- and today's problem is   teh "UP" factor.

37.3 % of teh hanicap crutch/walker problem is   the "UP"  factor... 

and too much bending over to keep your centrer of gravity  where it does not get behind you

 will eventually get you into a wheelchair... 

to use a crutch, cane, or walker   insists that you  bend forward--

 now if...... keeping in mind i have  minus 13% of medical knowledge

 and only 12% of  practical engineering background ...

 if there is some way of attaching a weight to a cane---...

if you have a 150 pound moveable cane--- which i can not figure out -- unless...

you attach your handle to  either a  dane or the rear end of a 150 pound companion  

 this would enable you to stand up straight and walk more normally because  of teh "UP" factor 

as long as teh dane has a comfortable harness and teh person does not mind an ocasional wedgie

 your chances of walking normally is far better than a cane .

ustabe-- long ago  -- megan had a perfect pet  dane and very useful in all manner of things... fido

i think it was fido that enabled us to test if a kid could walk with a dane-

i remember giving a small kid  a $10 bill in one hand-- fido  in the other-

and told her i would meet her at teh  ice cream booth  at the other end of the mall

30 feet behind her, she was followed by 2 very nervous parents

i left for the ice cream booth- ( as you would expect me to do) and she made it.

that was our initial test case- which eventually evolved into bella hunter,eve, fiona and erica..

as i watched them-- and so many others  - i saw the UP factor was not being addressed by the normal medical community.

i am very sorry to say we do not have a fido now....  sizzle and bentley just are not there i am ashamed to say,

maybe megan's old gal might be close-- but very old...    we need a bombproof fido.

so LACKING THAT...... WHERE COULF I POSSIBLE TEST THIS UP FACTOR?

 THERE WAS A NICE KIKD HERE LAST NIGHT AND I WANTED TO TALK TO MOM  BUTTHE TIME WAS JUST NOT RIGHT--  SO MOM IF YOU ARE READING THIS--  I KNOW YOU SAID THE BACK POCKET WAS WORKING... HOW ABOUT STANDING WITH THE MONKEY  FIST?? 

WHO KNOWA WHERE THIS COULD LEAD??? I KNOW Hving ropes  haqnging around here is a big helop to alot of people- but they in themselves do not address the up factor-- now we could modify them by attaching bowling balls to the bottom of tehm-- or more conveniently  bottles of water.. 

might be hard to explain to visitors- but  we are not trying to impress visitors--

i  gave that up long ago...

 i never in my life had anyone stop me and tell me what a well cut lawn--- or spotless kitchen counter i had.

i get untold number of compliments on my dogs

so i gave up lawn cutting and counter wiping
