OLD AGE IS NOT FOR THE ELDERLY...  AND I KNOW I AM ONLY ALLOWED ONE AILMENT A DAY-- SO HERE IS TODAYS.... I WOKE UP AT 2AM WHICH IS USUAL-- STARTED  TO GET OUT OF BED  AND MY LEFT FOOT CURLED SIDEWAYS SO I COULD NOT GET THE BOTTOM PART ON THE FLOOR..AND MY RIGHT FOOT WAS NOT ALL THAT HAPPY EITHER.  SO THERE I SAT WISHING I DID NOT HAVE THAT SECOND GLASS OF WATER BEFORE BED.

I DON'T KNOW WHY I HAVE THESE PROBLEMS--- I WEAR THAT  "I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP" THING AROUND MY NECK, BUT I AM EMBARASSED TO PUSH THE BUTTON AND HAVE TO SAY I CAN'T GET THE BOTTOM OF MY FOOT ON THE FLOOR.  -- SAME KIND OF THING AS THE DAY I WAS ATTACKED BY MY BATHROBE AND MY ARMS WERE STUCK OVER MY HEAD.. SO I COULDNT' EVEN PUSH THE BUTTON IF I WANTED TO... 

IT DID GO AWAY BUT IT GAVE ME TIME TO REMEMBER--- WITH CAREFUL STUDY/PLANNING  ONE WAY TO SET AN ALARM FOR EARLY RISING... IS TO HAVE A BIG GLASS OF WATER BEFORE BED  AND YOUR BLADDER WILL WAKE YOU UP...

LIKE-- DOGS TOTALLY DESTROYED MY ONLY PAIR OF SNEAKERS AND BLUE GWEN TOOK A BOX OF SHIRTS UPSTAIRS AND FOUND A BRAND NEW PAIR OF MY SIZE SNEAKERS - STILL IN THE BOX-- IN THE HALL--

LIKE- I SPENT A COUPLE HOURS DIDDLING WITH THE VIDEO CAMERA AND  THOUGHT OF PUTTIN G  A  VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED AD IN THIS DD--- AND CARLA'S SON CAME UP THE DRIVEWAY NEEDING TO MAKE A VIDEO FRO SOME CLASS HE IS TAKENG..( YESTERDAY)

I HAVE THE MEAT SHACK WALLS NEARLY DONE AND SHEILA MIGHT BE ALONG TO HELP STAND THEM UP... THIS WILL BE A 12 X 8 "CUTTING ROOM... TO GET THE CUTTING OF THE BEEF OUT OF MY CELLAR BEFORE THE WARM SUMMER TURNS  THE WHOLE HOUSE INTO A SMELLY AFFAIR... THAT  WOOD CHIPPER SENDS BEEF HIGH AND WIDE

AND THEN THERE IS THE CALENDAR TO PREPARE FOR... WILLIAM HAS GIVEN ME 2 MORE CARPENTRY REQUESTS-- SO I NEED TO GET THOSE DONE BEFOREE HE SHOWS UP - USUALLY LATE IN THE DAY.  A COUPLE OF HIS PREVIEW SHOTS ARE WONDERFUL;

THE CAMERA AND SOUND--- PLEASE... I KNOW THERE ARE WAYS YOU MIGHT PREFER TO HAVEE THE CAMERA, BUT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN HERE AND SEEN WHAT WE HAVE GONE THRU WITH HUNDREDS OF FEET OF WIRES STRUNG ALL OVER AND WORRYING ABOUT SOMEONE OR A DOG TRIPPIN IN THE CORDS AND KNOCKING OVER THE CAMERAS...YOU CAN NOT FULLY APPRECIATE THE COMPLICATIONS...  WE ARE DOING THE BEST WE CAN... just to follow the rules of complaining about only one ailment per day,  i did have a chest xray yesterday- and my lungs are fine-- but the doctor said i have some wildly arthritic shoulders and spine--- that was good to find out...  i never quite understood why i got stuck in the bathrobe about a month ago..

for newcommers--- i needed to go out into the office area which was full of people and quickly grabbed my bathrobe --  When i was consideraby younger-- i used to do a twist and flip and jackets etc would land where they belonged-- but his time i flipped and got stuck with my arms over my head .  

in an effort to disentangle myself  i tried to catch  it on th ehook on the bathroom door and just about hung myself there-- which would be another "hard to describe  " moment.,  i was not home alone... but if i had been, and pushed the "i have fallen and i can't get up" button, how would the emt's be able to bill that to the insurance companies-- there is no code for "attacked by bathrobe" in th ebilling systems.

i survived...

i don't know how it got to be winter again  but here we are...

new camera is spectacular- and as i get more familiar with it, i am sure we can resolve several issues--

i meant to have them put the bolster/pillow  in the corner so the pups could not get "off camera "to sleep but forgot.

today we will resolve the sound issue-

wiring has  the simple notation of male/female to describe ends of wires... and at the moment i have a female female situation  to try and hook up the mic... it may mean a trip to best buy for a 59 cent male male  whatever,

thus endith the lesson for the day..

opal is a lovely gal-- not too tall-- very pleasent  and cooperative--

 walter is the tall  attractive foreigner( from denmark) and a bit young...

the geometry  was difficult-- a more experienced bentley would have managed --- but opal is bentley's sister... that left megan maria and i  in the laundry room with coffee cups, rubber gloves , some siphon hose, and insemination "straws"

it was a very trying episode to say the least..

and she did not become pregnant.

megan thinks walter has matured and will have no trouble- merlow  will be here friday. 

at best dog reproduction is a most pequiliar performance

i do not know what the good Lord had in mind when she designed this.

however "natural covers" rarely fail.

i can not say the same for coffee cups and straws.

Mia had another great visit at the rehab/nursing home today. Mom is all the way down the hall so Mia visits with the people on the way.  After we settle in to visit mom the assistant director came in to visit Mia along with the regular CNA's and nurses. Had to go to the nurses station and we were greeted by a woman who asked if Mia would come to the activity room and visit the residence. She thought Mia was a therapy dog. I explained to her that she was my service dog and that we would visit but it was up to Mia if she wanted to be petted or not. We stood in the middle of the room and everyone smiled and talked to her. Mia did go over to one lady for a nose rub. She has learned how to pass wheelchairs, walkers, and people in a crowded hall way with ease and still helps me at the same time.  Thank you for my beautiful Mia. Michelle aka Shelly and Mia

MY HANDY DANDY SCHEDULE SAYS MEGAN, MARIA,KATI WILL BE HERE FOR THE ADULT DIVISION  AND TRACY AND MOLLY CAN RUN THE YOUNGER BUNCH...WE ARE  NOW FEEDING EVERY 2 TO 3 HOURS TRYING TO FREE UP COOKIE SO SHE CAN GO HOME.

 AND I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE 4 IN KENNEL 10 SO UNSUPERVISED-- WE HAVE THE HAWK AROUND PUPPY HILL-- THEY SHOULD BE  IN THE LOW SIDE OF THE NUTT HOUSE.

Great day. So wonderful for Larry. Fine with our other dog. Went to Petsmart Home Depot and the local Agway for bowls food.bed and other chores. She was wonderful. Has a bit of soft stool.  How much does she weigh? How much food should she get at each meal?

moving on......

we had a bunch of people here yesterday---  cars 3 deep--- met a few new volunteers--

this place... at times.........

bud introduced me to a new umass volunteer-- nice guy  -tall   6' 2" ish and as we were figuring out what project he could start on, i immediately thought of all that fencing that needs moving to the new area--  to be painted---it would be easily done by 2 guys-- so i joked and said we needed one more volunteer of his size and shape--- and....like so  many mysteriously appearing things-- within 5 minutes a nearly identical guy in size and shape  came in the t tent--- veteran looking for something interesting  to do...  so the 2 of them walked all that 12' chain link  back to the new area  where we can now get it organized.

it is the  fencing paul and bud collected from a newly sold house in gloucester-- new owner did not have dogs... 

it is the lighter guage- which a dane can get thru if they really try--   but horses are not that clever..

i remember........ before the topsfeld fairgrounds had that draft horse barn, they had some temp  straight stalls made of  1x6 boards with spacing between  -- so the horses could see each other- and began bickering as only 2000 pound animals can bicker--  so i hung brown paper over the boards and they all quieted down nicely.

moving along.....

spray painting  the  "used" chain link really brightens it up- so teh plan is to  spray the pipe parts and  when it all is standing go over it with a very fuzzy roller of the same rustoleum "galvanized " paint.

i got the trial sample from our local hardware store-- and figured i wold get a bunch from home depot

except home depot does not carry it.......

lesson #47.....

you can not expect the local hardware store to stay in business with such specialized service if you get all your big purchases from  the big chains 

there s a big lesson  in vet medicine right there also.... i can not expect george to stay in business and save us in our  unplanned disasters if i buy all the medications thru petmeds online  . 

sort of the walmart theory once again.... 

and the annoying vision of the monster snow plows running up and down 95 when there is only 1/2 inch of snow...

they ain't gonna be there  when we have 3 feet of snow if they can't pay for the plows...

ruckus has gone home with her new person  larry-- he was here only a very short time-- but he lives close-- so i expect to see him back --- they are working fine together---  but there are a few details like  getting into his car/truck  proceedures i would like to address more.

 ruckus  has it sown pat--- she adores him-- and  rarely lets him out of her sight.

we went to dunkin donuts  and as she slept on the floor next to him, she put her foot on his... there was no way he was getting up without her knowing it.

we did manage to get 2 of the dogs "chipped"  -- 

the needle which plants the  small rice size bit, is not what y ou would call "small"

it is  also a lesson in how tough  is the skin on the neck of a dog.

you nearly have to hammer a nail hole first.

i did buy enough lumber to do the 4 walls of the meat shack.--  given enough vounteers enough hammers, we should have the walls up in nothing flat.  we actuall own a nail gun--- but it wold take too much time to use it especially with the 911 calls every time someone shoots themselves in the foot.

here again-- another  volume study...

same as giving enough monkeys enough typewriters and one would write the complete works of   william shakespear.

WELL, THAT WAS AN EXCITING EVENING... I EVEN GOT OUT OF BED TO  DO THE HONORS-

I JUST GOT THE POSTERS THRU THE MAIL---- ALL NUMBERED ---WITH INSTRUCTIONS--   ANDREW HAD HIS PROPOSAL WELL PLANNED....AND THEN HE BEGAN TO GET NERVOUS AND CALLED TO CHECK DETAILS...

I BEGAN TO FEED OUT THE SUSPENSE OF A MYSTERY SURPRIZE  SO DANIELLE COULD BE LINED UP TO WATCH AT THE 8PM TIME...

I LOVED GETTING  THE COMMENTS ON WHAT THE SURPRIZE MIGHT BE-- THE CREATIVITY OF YOU CP'S IS LOVELY..  WE ALL LAUGHED AT MANY OF THEM....

 THE  SUGGESTION WE MIGHT HAVE FOUND JIMMY HOFFA'S BODY INTHE OVERFLOW ROOM, WAS MY FAVORITE..

and i would like all of you  CP'S TO  watch the feeding process-- and report to me...

megan has it down pat... she loads up with a pocket full of milk bones so after they have eaten

she asks each one to step into their kennel, no excitement just go in-- then THEY TURN AROUND EXPECTING HER TO GIVE THEM A TREAT-- AND SHE DOES-- HAND FEEDING THEM THE MILK  BONE... THEY EXPECT IT AND THEY GET IT.

NOW... I HAVE SEEN OTHERS  THROW THE MILK BONE ONTO THE FLOOR--UNACCEPTABLE   !!!!

 IT ONLY WOULD TAKE A SPLIT SEC OND MORE FOR YOU TO BE POLITE AND WAIT TIL THE PUP  TURNS AROUND AND HAND FEED THEM THE TREAT.

AND I HAVE SEEN THE OCCASION WHEN THE DOG TURNS AROUND AND THE PERSON FEEDING JUST WALKS AWAY...

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE--- RUDE BEHAVIOR.  

NOW MEGAN--- OCCASIONALLY FORGETS THE MILK BONES SO AS SHE IS FEEDING THEM SHE SNEAKS OUT  A COUPLE PELLETS OF THEIR USUALL FOOD--AND THEY ARE DELIGHTED TO GET IT-- I HAVE ALWAYS SAID IT IS NOT THE QUANTITY. IT IS THE GESTURE--- AND IF IT IS THE GESTURE THEN IT IS EXTREMELY BAD TO FORGET IT.

IF ANYONE HERE DOES NOT HAVE THE EXTRA  4 SECONDS PER DOG ( I HAVE TIMED IT..)  YOU JUST LET ME KNOW...

RULE -- EVERY TIME YOU PUT A DOG IN A KENNEL YOU MUST GIVE THEM A TREAT--OUT OF YOUR HAND...  THIS MEANS---- BOTH STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS.... AND IT MEANS PLAN AHEAD....

william thinks he has 5 great calendar shots for next year... and this one was not easy-- it was to be a big dog shielding a pup from the rain--- which meant hoses. water , umbrellas. wet dogs, and water running down my back.. and i still had hot eyeballs ( a temperature)-- but with everyone pitching in we got it... anne with the dry towels, sheila with the reflector -2 hoses running plus upset wet dogs...  finally we went to bailey-- who understands a temporary situation... do whatever they say and they will then say ok and give you treats.-- she has a long history of holding a pose for a camera...

but we all got wet. so sheila did mail call and i slept.

i am slightly better today.

it is so easy to  lie in bed and think of all the things you will get done today..  but then you have to actually get going....

it would be nice to see if i can get the donkey pasture connected to the barn before we get too many flying bugs.

and the split rail fencing-- jack showed us how easy it can sometimes be by planning ahead--- until that does not work and then it needs a sawing correction...  we /you  should do an entire section of 3 rails at once...

i am slowing down already----back to bed---

I LOVED THE DD ON FRIDAY MAY 16TH REGARDING DANES NOT LIKING BATHROOMS, ESPECIALLY SHOWERS.  I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY TO REPORT TO YOU THAT IVY WILL BE IN THE BATHROOM WHEN I AM IN THE SHOWER.  SHE HAS, MANY TIMES, ACTUALLY STUCK HER HEAD IN THE SHOWER TO MAKE SURE THAT I AM DOING OK.  AND THE BEST PART, I HAVE PHOTO PROOF THAT SHE DOES IT.  I GUESS I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT MY SERVICE DOG DOES NOT MIND.  ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN IT COMES TO RAIN, DREW TAKES HER OUTSIDE TO DO HER BUSINESS UNDER AN UMBRELLA.  THAT IS A SIGHT TO SEE.

Hello Carlene!

Last weekend we went to a wedding and Lola was perfect. Most people didn't even 
know she was there. That was until I got out onto the dance floor with her!! Yes 
we danced, Lola and I, and she was just wonderful. 

The big move is scheduled for this Friday! This past Sunday we went to a party 
thinking it was for our niece and nephews birthday, only to be surprised to see 
all of our friends and family! 
We had a great time and Lola was fantastic as usual. I had to walk and stand 
quite often to roam around and visit with everyone. There was loud music and 
much hooting and hollering and it didn't faze her. I will say we were both 
exhausted by the end of the night however! 

I hope all is well with you and will update you once we get settled in the new 
house. Traveling from MA to FL in a truck with 4 dogs, 3 cats and us should make 
for some great stories!!

i do not know why, in a country that can engineer a system to move empty beer bottles to the filler then capper with least amt of labor still designs mens sox-- 3 to a package  black, very dark grey, very dark blue-- i remember my mother holding them up to the light and asking if it was a blue or black sock-- back then....no good housewife would send her husband out to work with mismatching socks.  

that was as bad as an indian woman putting up a tipi with wrinkles..

now probably most men have    to sort their own, but they still are packaged to promote mismatching.

maybe because now all the socks are made in china

fashion can get ridiculous-- i remember ?george gobel? on the tonight show with johnny carson? "when i go to a formaL  black tie affair, i feel iike a pair of brown shoes."

with al the things i have forgotten, why i remember that i do not know....

our purple barn is lovely and is encouraqging us to  clean up our act..

i think today- after a run to costco for see thru plastic storage boxes... we should unload the contents of the tack room into the arena-- i don't know if that could turn into a white board game of ?what piece of horse equipment is this?  i hope to find  a stainless snaffle driving bit for the harness-- the one with it is rusted...  which is normal for alot of horse equipment... but stainless looks better-- and have knows we have owned one...

and the other plan of the day is to order the chain link o make the dog stalls... kennels...

this will be a major expense... but there is no substitute...  5 plus a puppy pen configuration...

maybe bud can move the camera over to include this new area plus the arena...

apparently the camera is off line...

SPEND 1 HOUR BEFORE THE DOGS GET IN THE POND AREA TRANSPORTING TOPSOIL  FROMT HE COMPOST HEAP TO THE FLAT FIELD--- IT WILL BE A LONG WAY AROUND, BUT WHEN I CUT THE GRASS THE MOWER NEARLY DISAPPEARED INTO SOME OF THE NEWLY DUG HOLES...

THEN MAYBE ANOTHER HOUR DIGGING ( BACKHOE DIGGING TYPE) THE POSTS TO SEPARATE THE 2 RUN  IN AREAS FOR THE HORSES.

THEN MAYBE DO NOTHING.- WELL , MAYBE PEN AND PENCIL THE CHAIN LINK I HAVE TO ORDER FOR THE NEW DOG STALLS.  IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO MOVE THE ARENA CAMERA INTO THE DOORWAY SO IT COULD SWING ALL 6 NEW STALLS PLUS THE ARENA.

IT MIGHT BE NICE -- IF IT IS NICE----TO GET THE CRUMBS OUT IN A TEMP PEN BY THE TEEPEE SO THEY WOULD BE ON THAT CAMERA.. THE 4 CAN GO IN THE PEN NEXT TO THE T TENT.

RUSHING TO BOTTLOE FEED...

Hey Carlene,

We are doing great down here in Myrtle Beach. It is bike week down here so I took Sam down to the waterfront to take in the goings-on. I parked down at the beach and Sam pulled me a couple of blocks down the boardwalk until we came upon a wheelchair access. He helped me out of my chair and we made it probably half a dozen steps before I fell on the super soft sand. Beachgoers immediately took notice and started rushing over to help and Sam responded by immediately laying on top of me, his head on my chest and rapidly wagging tail slapping against my knees, while groaning to kindly let it be known that no one does his job but him. I eventually got my laughter under control and translated his actions into English. As soon as the crowd backed off he stood and braced. After that when I would fall everyone let us be and after sneaking a kiss, Sam would immediately assume the position in front of me and brace himself for some good tugs. We went another block or two before we stopped  and Sam got a bowl of vanilla soft-serve and proceeded to take the boulevard’s sidewalk back where Sam was not at all bothered by the noise of the never-ending parade of Harleys. Overall, a FANTASTIC day!
